Barbie Fashion tablet

While most tablets tend to target the male demographic, here is something just for the pink loving princess in your life. I am talking about the Barbie Fashion tablet from Oregon Scientific here, where it has less practicality and functionality than being a fashion icon for the little girl in your life. Similar to the craze surrounding Hello Kitty products, Barbie, being an international fashion icon, has her very own tablet that certainly abhors all things high tech, as it lacks even the most basic necessity these days – a color LCD display. At least the monochrome LCD display is touch sensitive, and it comes with a stylus in addition to a range of learning activities like writing, drawing, music making, vocabulary building, sequencing, and memorizing amongst others.

There is a range of themes that accompany the Barbie Fashion tablet including fashion, design, pets, and parties, not to mention handwriting recognition. Seems to be more of a gift for collectors and fans of Barbie rather than having it being a functional, working tablet, but you cannot really complain much at $49.95.

Star Trek Door Chime

You would have thought that living in the space age where we are able to travel to far away planets, galaxies even, and something as simple as a doorbell would not have been powered by a trio AA batteries. I guess that is the case with the £24.99 Star Trek Door Chime however, as it has proven that the aesthetics might prove it worthy of being part of the Star Fleet, but the technology itself has yet to catch up in this side of the galaxy (and time). You will not find yourself getting beamed up anytime soon, but at least you are able to access your “quarters” as well as the “vessels” of others while announcing your arrival through this officially licensed motion-sensitive door chime.

Modelled on the original 'old-school' Star Trek communicator panels, it is a snap to mount, and will come with a trio of distinctive sound effects – a push-button Communicator Whistle, Door Opening sound and a Red Alert alarm. Plenty of iPhone apps exist to help you stay healthy. You have food tracking, exercise tracking, heart rate monitoring. The list goes on and on. We can't seem to get enough apps to help us live healthy lives. One more to add to your list for later this year is Lapka Personal Environment Monitor. Lapka consists of 4 small devices that connect to your iPhone. Once the Lapka app is downloaded, attach a device and measure:

  • Organicity of food and water: Includes a probe to look for significant nitrates, caused by residue of synthetic fertilizer, indication of a non organic source.
