Infra Red Camera Ready Nest Box

Posted: 13 Jun 2011 09:45 AM PDT

Now here is a little something for all of you budding voyeurs out there – the Infra Red Camera Ready Nest Box. It might seem like the average wooden bird house to the passer by, but this £84.99 purchase is actually a sneaky little camouflage for something more sinister – it holds all the relevant electronics inside so that you can always capture the goings-on of your neighbor – although we do know that you have a perfectly good alibi when the authorities question you – this little Infra Red Camera Ready Nest Box can also be used to study your feathered friends up close and personal without them knowing any better.

Even more brilliant is the kit comes with infrared lights and cameras that will help you capture night time images in black and white, so you can always have something interesting to look at once you are done surfing through all 500 channels on your TV.

One Touch Photo Dialer

Posted: 13 Jun 2011 09:30 AM PDT

Making a phone call has never been easy, especially for those who can’t quite seem to put a name to a face. Enter the $39.95 One Touch Photo Dialer which will take an unorthodox route when it comes to making a phone call. Relying on easily identifiable pictures, this unique idea will deliver one-touch dialing for commonly called or emergency telephone numbers. This is made possible thanks to individual buttons which measure 1.5″ x 1″, as they can be customized with a picture or symbol. It doesn’t matter who you put there, but for sure you can’t call Osama bin Laden since he’s sleeping with the fishes. Each of the dialer’s dozen buttons can be linked to a different telephone number that is entered via the recessed numeric keypad on the dialer’s underside. Shame this works with a land line only…

Ricoh PX takes the rugged route

Posted: 13 Jun 2011 09:21 AM PDT

Ricoh is back with a spanking new digital camera, where this one will be of the rugged variety. We are talking about the Ricoh PX, where it was specially designed to deliver peace of mind as well as hassle-free use, regardless of where you are, anytime of the day (or night), bringing fully dust-, water-, and shock-resistant features right into the palm of your hands.

Of course, what is the whole point of a hardcore handset when it does not have the professional “qualifications” so to speak to back it up? The Ricoh PX will come with a JIS/IEC protection rating equivalent to IP68, which means you can use it underwater for up to an hour at a depth of 3 meters. You can always wash off dirt from the PX whenever itg ets a little bit too dirty for your comfort, and it also frees up your mind since you can take snapshots anywhere without having to worry about rain, splashes, dirt or soil. For more on the Ricoh PX, check it out in the extended post.

With its special impact-resistant design, the camera is capable of withstanding drops from heights of 1.5 meters. The 2.7″ 230k-dot high-contrast LCD display will also comprise of boast of an anti-fingerprint protection coating which will prevent it from getting any scratches, while the anti-reflective coating ensures that the monitor can still be viewed under bright outdoor conditions without having you to squint your eyes.

With a relatively fast startup time of around 1.4 seconds, you should be able to shoot just about any subject in particular without missing a single important moment.
Subject-tracking Autofocus is standard on all models, while the fully-flat design does away with projections to emphasize portability for a camera like this. Since the lens is located at the center of your body, it makes sure no stray fingers will ruin your shots. With it being USB rechargeable, you can always leave it plugged into your notebook to keep it juiced up before arriving at your destination.

Expect the Ricoh PX to retail for $299 when it arrives later this month.

FitBot is one smart mannequin

Posted: 13 Jun 2011 09:04 AM PDT

Robots are slowly but surely encroaching on human territory, where without them, we would still be laboring out in the fields without machines to assist us so that we can rest easy at home long before the sun sets. Cubicle droids might beg to differ, but I digress. Enter the FitBot, which is a robotic mannequin that is capable of sizing up and down according to your needs. Thanks to Estonian startup Fits.me, this innovative solution that was launched last year for the men will now come in a female equivalent.

Thanks to their custom-built robot mannequin known as the FitBot, it is capable of accurately modeling clothes so that they will be able to look good across a span of body sizes, using just a singl emannequin. This is the perfect fit, if I may say so, for online clothing retail sites since it is capable of simulating just what a particular garment will resemble on any body shape.

All you need to do is use sliders to indicate your vital statistics such as your height, bust, waist, hips as well as the measurement from your wrist to the back of your neck. The computer will then process all those information where it will show off an image of what the robot mannequin would look like upon wearing the garment of your choice in your size.

With such robots making their way to market, how do you see them changing the way fashion is promoted? Will it usher in a whole new age of online shopping, since the ladies can never have enough handbags, shoes and clothes? Well, we do hope that there will be future versions which will cater for women who are super plus sized where the bust is concerned, because certainly the FitBot is unable to do anything about a 40DDD size.

3D Bee by VEFXi does real-time conversion

Posted: 13 Jun 2011 08:30 AM PDT

For those that are interested in 3D conversion for their 2D systems, you might want to look at 3D Bee from VEFXi.

In a recent demonstration, I saw a two-dimensional animated film being brought to life in 3D, with the glasses. It was done with two vertically stacked 2D projectors and passive polarizer filters, providing crisp 3D that is brighter viewing than available with typical 3D ready projectors.

It is possible to get a kit for stacking the 2D projectors with the professional model, and it is also possible to get the 3D conversion for 3D-Ready projectors that require frame-sequential 120Hz 720p 3D format with the 3D-Bee trainer model.

Then there is the 3D-Bee home for 3D TVs. All of this is good for video game consoles, Blu-ray/DVD players, cable, satellite, not to mention media players, cameras, and computers. Somehow, this converts it to 3D, just like the 2D animated film that I mentioned before. I don’t know how they did it, but it is impressive.

It is also expensive. The 3D-Bee::home for 3D TVs is about $399, the 3D-Bee::trainer for 3D-ready projectors is about $499, and the 3D-Bee::professional with stackable 2D projectors is about $949. Right now, the VEFXi site and 3D-Bee site don’t have any news on when this will be available.

The Avenger Adapter for the Xbox 360

Posted: 13 Jun 2011 08:15 AM PDT

I’m sure that you are probably looking at this Xbox 360 controller and wondering what kind of cybernetic job was done on it.

This is the Avenger, and it has nothing to do with Marvel’s super-hero team or that really interesting British spy show that was done in the 1960s. The Avenger is designed to speed up the performance of the XBox 360 gamer.

It does so by electronically stimulating the knuckles so the gamer becomes as fast as The Six Million Dollar Man. Just kidding. Find out how it really works after the jump.

It is as simple as strapping it to the controller, and then the user needs to re-learn how to game. Becoming a champion on the Avenger is all about how not to hit the X, Y, and B keys with your thumbs.

Instead, you need to use the levers with the back of your fingers to trigger the buttons. The advantage is that one doesn’t have to switch their thumb from the Right Stick to those pesky buttons. You still have to hit the A button with your right thumb, but you save time by saving your thumb from excess work. This little bit of saved time increases your reaction time, and results in a better game.

See how it works now? You should be able to get it from the official Avenger site for about $49.99.

GRilli3D brings 3D to the iDevice

Posted: 13 Jun 2011 08:00 AM PDT

Considering the amount of mobile phones with glasses-free 3D displays being released recently, I’m sure that eventually iDevices will have them. This is assuming that this glasses-free 3D screens aren’t some passing fad.

If you want that 3D effect on your iPhone and iPad now, you can get it with GRilli. I recently saw it work on several different devices, and I was pretty impressed.

It works using this lined decal on the screen on the iDevice that can be easily printed on adhesive transparent sheets. Somehow, putting this thing on can trick the eye into seeing stereoscopic 3D, and it is apparently best in landscape mode.

If you have seen a 3D postcard, then you have seen the effect of the GRilli in a non-digital way. It probably is the closest thing to glasses-free 3D without altering the basic hardware of the device.

The drawback is that the transparent decal is somewhat tough to put on, and you have to make sure that you are seeing “parallel rainbows”.

GRilli is available for the iPod and iPhone for about $14.99, and the $29.99 for the iPad. If it is successful, then I am certain you will be seeing GRill3D on all sorts of devices like TV sets and other brands of tablets of cellphones. You can find out more about it here.
