Review of the easy2pick Wireless Luggage Finder

Posted: 22 Jun 2011 10:53 AM PDT

Usually, when I travel, I always carry-on. However, with the price of airport luggage check-in, I have found that the only time that I check-in is when the airline will do it for free during that critical moment when I get on the plane.

The Wireless Luggage Finder is designed to combat the problem of finding your bag at the baggage claim. All you need to do is clip that credit card sized thing and turn it on. After your flight, you turn on the round keychain that you see there, and it will sound when your suitcase is within 90 feet. So when the suitcase rolls onto the luggage carousel, you will hear a beeping sound on the keys.

It has an individual code so there is no mistaken identity. You can also use this device as a way to find your keys. In that case, just take that credit card device and turn it on. Assuming the keychain is on, then the beep should give away the position of your keys.

Personally, I would have made this device so that the credit card shaped device will beep, as that would give away the position of my luggage. However, that would defeat the purpose of using it as a key-finder. I guess you have to sacrifice one for the other.

Anyway, you should be able to pick it up at the X-treme Geek site for about $24.95.

The Date Stapler solves two problems at the office

Posted: 22 Jun 2011 10:27 AM PDT

There’s nothing that I like more than products that solve two problems at once, especially when the two problems are generally related.

Most of us have business documents that have to be dated, just to make certain that everything is in order for tax time. Since related documents have to be stapled, why not have a product that can both date and staple things?

This would be the Date Stapler, which puts a date and a staple on at the same time. Normally, it would be stapled and then dated separately. It really is easier this way.

Sadly, it is still a concept designed by Gonglue Jiang, but I think it shows a good trend in office supplies. Perhaps someone could create a three-hole punch that also binds papers together.

Now, if there was some way to make this legal. After all, the purpose of date-stamping a document is to make certain that it holds up in court. However, if I could make the date anything that I want, it hardly looks like it will hold up in court, right?

I’m sure that this particular Date Stapler will be made into reality soon. Perhaps there will be one with an official date that can be calibrated with the Internet. Could something like this put notaries out of business? Chime in with a comment if you have the legal know-how to answer that question.

Augmented Reality Cinema shows you the scene where it was filmed

Posted: 22 Jun 2011 10:00 AM PDT

Normally, I don’t report on Apps here, as we could do a blog for that. However, this one I just couldn’t resist, but it is sadly still a concept.

If you are a regular reader of this blog, and I am told that we have many, then you know that I am nuts over all things augmented reality. This particular one can be used a famous movie locations.

You can watch the video to see it in action, and it looks simple to use. Find the spot where a movie was filmed, like the Westminster Bridge in 28 Days Later, and you will see the scene played out.

As you can see in the video, the locations are in the UK. I hope this App will eventually come with locations for the United States.

Personally, I love going to places were movies were shot. I visited the town of Preston, Idaho, just so I could see the final shot of Napoleon Dynamite. It would have been very cool to use an App like this there.

In fact, I can see this App being used for movie-related tours. Forks, Washington could be used for a Twilight-based tour, and I’m pretty sure that L.A. and New York City have plenty of places to use this App.

Leader International offers Impression 10 tablet device

Posted: 22 Jun 2011 07:45 AM PDT

Tablets are dime a dozen these days, and with so many different kinds of examples to look at, it can be kind of hard to arrive at a purchase decision. Do you settle for something from Cupertino, or with the myriad of Android-powered tablets out there, is something else more suitable? How about the BlackBerry PlayBook? So many questions, and Leader International intends to provide an answer in the form of their Impression 10.

Also known as the I10, the Impression 10 will retail for $349.99, but don’t be fooled by the budget-centric price tag as the I10 is said to have raised the bar for that particular category by quite a margin, with the kind of innards it carries. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that it runs on the Android operating system either, now we just have to wait for Leader International to make sure that future software updates will arrive on time to remain updated at all times.

The I10 will come with 9.7″ capacitive widescreen IPS (In Plane Switching) display which is capable of delivering brilliant color at 1024 x 768 resolution, not to mention wide viewing angles which your eyes will appreciate. Apart from that, there is the powerful and energy-efficient 1GHz Samsung processor which runs on Android 2.2 Froyo with Flash 10.1 support, letting you enjoy maximum performance including functions such as the streaming and playback of high-definition videos.

With that kind of hardware and software, you can be sure that the I10 is somewhere at the top of the budget tablet food chain. Other hardware specifications include a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth connectivity, 4GB of flash memory that can be expanded to 32GB, a G-sensor, USB 2.0 (one mini and two standard ports), a 2-megapixel camera, stereo output and an HDMI port.

All units will come pre-loaded with a bunch of third party applications, and fret not – there is plenty of room for more. Would you consider this as part of your tablet purchase if you’re currently looking at the moment?

Nokia C2-03 announced, ushers in new age for S40 phones

Posted: 22 Jun 2011 07:30 AM PDT

There is a new Series 40-powered feature phone from Nokia known as the Nokia C2-03, where it will merge Dual-SIM functionality with Touch and Type technology. Carrying a couple of SIM cards is getting more and more common these days, but what you need to do is make sure your phone is able to handle more than one SIM card slot so that both numbers can be reached at any one time, and the Nokia C2-03 intends to fulfil that role – with aplomb, I might add.

What makes the Nokia C2-03 so special? Well, for starters this is Nokia's third Touch and Type phone and will be the first of its kind that features Dual-SIM. Normally, Dual-SIM phones will need to be switched off while getting the battery removed, in order for the SIM card to be inserted. This time around, the Nokia C2-03 will feature Easy Swap that lets you open the slot on the side of the phone, followed by inserting the new SIM card without having to reboot it at all.

Just in case you happen to have more than a couple of SIM cards, the Nokia C2-03 is more than capable of remembering the settings for up to five separate cards. The moment you have personalized your SIM (through naming it and adjusting its calling settings), you need not have to do so ever again. Measuring a mere 103mm x 51.4mm x 17mm, it will tip the scales at 118 grams. With a standby time of up to 400 hours and a talk time of up to five hours, you will get a display of up to 240 x 320 resolution at 65K colors.

Apart from the above mentioned, what makes the Nokia C2-03 special? It will be one of the few feature phones out there that have Nokia Maps, letting you get to a particularly unfamiliar destination without incurring expensive data charges, and best of all is, there is no need to throw in a GPS chip inside the phone since it will rely on triangulation to get the job done – even delivering turn-by-turn navigation.

The Nokia C2-03 will arrive in India, China, South East Asia Pacific, and Eurasia sometime in Q3 this year, where it will cost €77 prior to taxes and subsidies.
