Play By Play Announcing Scoreboard

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 04:23 PM PDT

If you can’t make your way to the city’s biggest games of the year (which will mostly be between bitter rivals as well as derbys), why not bring some sort of similar atmosphere to your home with the Play By Play Announcing Scoreboard? This unique portable scoreboard will allow a spectator to contribute play-by-play and colorful commentary (while exercising self-censorship, of course, just in case there are minors around) to any backyard football scrimmage or softball league game.

The device will amplify the announcer’s commentary thanks to the included microphone, where it also comes with built-in sound effects. The couple of 10-watt speakers might not sound like much (pun not intended), but it should be enough to create real game-day atmosphere wherever you are. Not only that, the unit also displays the score for home and away teams on easy-to-see, 3-inch high numbers, alongside a countdown timer as well as a period indicator to keep things as real as possible. You can also play around with eight different crowd effects which range from taunts to cheers to suit the occassion.

You can opt to have this run off an AC adapter, or go truly portable with eight D batteries providing relevant juice. The Play By Play Announcing Scoreboard can be picked up for $299.95.

Doctor Who Levitating TARDIS

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 04:11 PM PDT

We’ve seen our fair share of Dr. Who gizmos in the past, with the TARDIS as well as Dalek being two of the more popular icons to be turned into merchandise. Well, today the TARDIS takes centerstage yet again, where this $34.99 purchase will actually float in mid air as though it was surrounded by some sort of mystical power.

Well, no magic is involved here but pure science – after all, the Levitating TARDIS relies on the magic of magnets in order to ensure the blue police box hovers within the black base unit without falling victim to the laws of gravity. With some practice and deftness of fingers, you can easily flick the TARDIS to set it spinning. It isn’t too environmentally friendly though, requiring half a dozen AA batteries to run – best to get rechargeables to go along with this.

Bang & Olufsen go high end with BeoVision 10

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 04:05 PM PDT

Bang & Olufsen has done it again, rolling out yet another high end TV set for those who are feeling flush, never mind that most folks out there today are having financial troubles. Well, the BeoVision 10 might not come encrusted with diamonds as well as other kinds of luxurious finishing, but then again it commands a premium price over other standard HDTVs out there in the market.

The BeoVision 10 LED product line has just gotten another addition with the introduction of a 32-inch version, where it will hit the market this November – which isn’t too far away, actually. The BeoVision 10-32 will come in a full HD LCD screen TV form factor, boasting an edge-type LED backlight, double sided anti-reflective coated contrast screen, five unique placement options and an active two-way loudspeaker system for optimal picture and sound performance.

The BeoVision 10–32 not only looks good, it also signifies a new record for Bang & Olufsen since this is the first time the company rolled out a trio of models from a specific TV family within one year. The BeoVision 10 first hit the streets this spring with a 40-inch model, so having a smaller 32-inch model might just be the perfect balance for folks who think that the 40-inch model is too large (as well as too expensive).

Boasting a similar chassis as that of the 40-inch and the 46-inch models, the BeoVision 10-32 will also adopt similar design principles, albeit on a smaller scale. Among them include a removable front fabric in a range of colors, (black, white, silver, dark grey, blue and orange) and an unique, high-gloss polished aluminium frame which delivers an optical illusion, making the TV look thinner than it actually is.

The frame itself is split into front and rear sections, where the rear profile is curved for it to reflect the color of the wall for a look as though it is floating. Are you willing to fork out at least $4,707 for this puppy?

Escort announces PASSPORT iQ for advanced warning of speed traps

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 03:57 PM PDT

Everyone hates to get stuck with a speeding ticket, but then again that has to be implemented if some form of law and order is required to make sure everything runs smoothly – as much as possible, anyways. After all, if there were no deterrents like speeding tickets, most folks with powerful cars will definitely zip down the freeway with wanton abandon – and you know how dangerous unbridled speed can be.

Well, here is something on your side today – the Passport iQ GPS navigation system from Escort that not only helps you get from point A to point B in clear directions, it also comes with integrated radar/laser detection to make sure you can slow down in time before the cop hiding in the thicket of bushes sends you a court summons.

Apart from that and GPS navigation, the Passport iQ also delivers important driving information such as speed traps and speed limit data, all crammed into a single compact device. While it looks like your ordinary GPS personal navigation device, the new Passport iQ will feature a fairly generous 5-inch full-color touchscreen display, letting you know in clear terms your current speed and heading, speed limit information, warnings if speed limits change and whenever you exceed the posted speed.

You can also choose from a user-friendly choice of visual and audio alerts which can be displayed in selectable formats and colors. It will also feature artificial intelligence and Escort’s patented AutoLearn feature, where the latter will automatically identify and analyze all radar sources. This allows the device to know just which is the real threat, locking out those which are false in the process such as automatic door openers, motion sensors, and other sources which might cause competitor radar detectors to constantly false alert in the absence of an actual threat.

Interested? This puppy can be yours for $649.99.

Dairy Queen Blizzard Maker

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 02:22 PM PDT

There is a great scene in Mr. Deeds where Adam Sandler tells Erick Avari how much he likes a Wendy’s Frosty. He then replies “I tried to make one at home, but it just isn’t the same”.

I suppose that is true about the Dairy Queen Blizzard. Fortunately, there is now a device designed for such a thing. That would be all right, because my wife loves these things and they are downright expensive.

It resembles some sort of home ice cream maker, and that is all that I know about this thing so far. It doesn’t look it is mechanical in any way, which is quite odd. I seem to recall the Blizzard machine at my local Dairy Queen having an electric motor.

The fact that it doesn’t seem to be able to mix the toppings in is another strike against it. So if you want a Snickers flavored one, you’ll probably have to stick that candy bar in the Cuisinart, and then sprinkle it into your plain Blizzard.

Another sort of non-helpful sign is that this Dairy Queen Blizzard Maker is available at Toys R Us. So I am guessing that the $34.99 will buy you a step up from a slushie machine, really.

But hey, don’t take my word for it, because I haven’t tried it. All I know is that I want a Blizzard, and when I try and make it without a Blizzard Maker, it is just not the same.

Null Concept Car has “Apps” option

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 01:45 PM PDT

This is the Null, and it is a concept electric vehicle designed by Jeongche Yoon to be the super-compact car of the future.

I suppose the electric and super-compact design are supposed to be made for this era of eco-friendly vehicles that are often taken on the road by one driver. It also has another feature for this century: the App.

Yes, this car has apps. These apps aren’t the smartphone software that creates an App on a touchscreen. This is more like hardware that you put on your car to make it do more. You can catch a video of this concept car after the jump.

App number one is Storage, which I would hardly call an App, really. App Number two is the Board carrier, for those who have surfboard and snowboards. This is definitely designed for the beach crowd, think of it as the new Volkswagen Bug. App number three is an outdoor bar that extends out of the trunk like an ironing board. App number four is a bike carrier, and then App number five is the extension battery pack.

Again, I would not call an extension battery pack for this car an app. After all, when you get an extension battery for your iPhone, that isn’t an App, it is an accessory. Clearly, the Null creator just wants to use the same buzzword for smartphones be the one for smartcars.

This coin-operated machine accepts PayPal

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 01:18 PM PDT

One of the problems with PayPal is although you may have PayPal money, sometimes you don’t have cash.

I receive all payments for my writing work through PayPal, and I’m sure most of you know about the three or five day delay before that money officially gets to the bank after a deposit.

At the PayPal X Innovate 2010 developers conference, there was a vending machine on display that takes PayPal. It was designed by Ray Tanaka and PayPal labs with a WiShield, an LED display, and a simple coin-operated vending machine.

Just to let you know, you can’t just go up and insert twenty-five cents worth of PayPal money like you insert a coin. You will need a smartphone, and you will need a particular App for that. It works by scanning a QR code, and then entering in the amount of money to purchase that item. Perhaps they could make a version that would only involve entering in a PayPal username and password.

I can see that PayPal vending machines are clearly the wave of the future as we are slowly moving toward a cashless society. I can easily see this being put on all vending machines, and it will serve as a deterrent for those who want to break into a coin operated machine just to steal some coins.

Kajeet – The Cell Phone Service Made 4 Kids

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 07:33 AM PDT

When someone tells you that kids these days grow up too fast, believe it. It seems like only yesterday that I brought my little one home from the hospital and all of a sudden, she's already asking me for a cell phone. Okay, it wasn't yesterday, and she's actually seven, but still it went by way to quickly.

Anyway, It would be ridiculous to trust a seven year old with a cell phone, right? Well, not anymore. Kajeet has come up with a phone service just right for your spoiled, um, I mean precious darlings. Kajeet offers a bunch of features that parents will love, like a pay as you go plan, with no contracts, tons of parental controls, call blocking, time manager and a GPS phone locator. It also has tons of stuff your kids will love, like talk, text, pix and play and with the really cool phones they have to choose from, maybe a cell phone for a little one can actually be a win-win.

I look at it this way, if I get her a phone now, while she's still to little to remember anyones phone number, I save the aggravation of waiting until she's a teenager. Kajeets plans include talk and text and start for as little as $4.99 a month. The plan includes access to all online parental controls and use of the Kajeet Navigator which contains a wide variety of kid friendly content. Hopefully my status as "coolest mom on earth" will last long enough to get me through her wanting to dye her hair blue.
