I am an information hound. If I am not on my laptop, which is pretty rare, I am wandering around the internet on my mobile phone. The ability to use a phone to surf the internet was amazing in its day, but now even with my new reading glasses, trying to see anything on my darn phone is more of a pain than anything else. Enter Snapstick, a developing new product that would allow you to use your laptop or mobile phone as a visual remote control that lets you pick whatever content you would like to watch, or share on the big screen, and using Snapstick’s SplitMedia™ technology, it will direct the TV to get the content you’ve selected on your phone or your laptop, directly from the Web through WiFi connected software, and when it's done, you’ve got the web on TV and your phone is free to use as usual. Snapstick touts itself as the easiest way to integrate the internet and television and they sure make it sound simple, "if you can surf the web and watch TV, you already know how to use Snapstick" Well, I can do both at the same time and chew gum. So count me in fellas! Okay, so its not an actual product yet, but they're in beta testing and the premise seems just perfect. I can see myself finally being able to share all the fun stuff I have on my phone with my friends and, I can put the reading glasses away. Now I'm going to dream about all the things I'd be able to do if I could just snap any internet content I wanted to a big screen… wow! Presentations? pictures? Internet TV episodes? Youtube? Just Awesome. Imagine a world where you no longer have to go grocery shopping. Instead, a company called Foodtubes brings the groceries to you! The idea is to build gigantic underground tubes that are as thick as a truck, and can move underground at 60 miles an hour. They are powered by air pressure or linear induction motors, and they are essentially big pneumatic tubes, like the type in old office buildings. I always wondered what happened to that system of communication. I remember it being out-of-date before the age of email. Anyway, Foodtubes states that food transport is a very wasteful system, with trucks spending 92 percent of fuel just hauling their own weight, as well as increasing our carbon footprint. Foodtubes says that there is more to establishing this system than just laying tracks. Listen to what they had to say about the freight industry “man”:

While technology can create all kinds of synthesized orchestration, I will leave it up to decide whether it is an improvement. Yes, an electronic baton might not help a conductor, but an electronic pedestal might. The SmartStand puts all the sheet music in a digital format for the conductor, and makes it so he or she presses on a pedal to turn the page. You may be wondering why this would be invented. After all, it looks like someone just put an iPad on a stand. There are many accessories already for that. I’m guessing that the iPad or any other tablet PC doesn’t come with an online music school, an instrument tuner, and other apps needed for conducting a band. Are there Apps for that? I wonder if this Smartstand is designed in such a way so that the user would not need a band. Perhaps he or she could just program music to play on command, and just have the baton just for effect. For some reason, I don’t seem to have a price or release date for this SmartStand. I would imagine that it would be equal to or greater than the price of a regular tablet PC, though. Some people at MIT have created Proverbial Wallets, and they are designed to hook up to a cellular phone via Bluetooth. Smartphones are probably required, as the phones must be in tune with the user’s account. There are three of these Proverbial Wallets, which I will detail after the jump, along with a video: The Bumblebee is designed to vibrate with every swipe of the credit card. Honestly, I think this is the most useless of the three, as most people should probably have their wallet in their hand when their card is being used. That should be enough of an alert. The Mother Bear is one that will “resist opening if you are getting within your budget”. I am assuming that it is pre-programmed to do so, and I wonder if it will open at all if you have blown your budget. Then there is the Peacock, a wallet that will grow or shrink, depending on how much money is in your account. It does this by inflating, seriously. In all honesty, I don’t see the practicality of the proverbial wallets. I don’t see this as a practical application of technology to achieve fiscal discipline. No matter, we’re talking about software today, where Aliph just introduced Jawbone THOUGHTS, an iPhone application which enables users to easily send quick voice messages to individuals and groups, doing so without the need for typing or calling. Sounds like a dream, eh? Hopefully it will work out so as we describe the Jawbone THOUGHTS in the extended post. This application will merge the speed of texting, the group collaboration of email, and the emotional quality of voice all in one. Best of all is, even in this economically trying period for most people, the Jawbone THOUGHTS isn’t going to cost you a penny. You read that right, it is available as a free download in the Apple App store. Don’t be fooled by its exterior that exudes calm, put it through its paces and in spite of all the harshest elements that it experiences, it will still work reliably enough for you to call for help should such a situation arise. This Personal Baby Assistant is a data gathering device that keeps track of everything that new parents easily lose track of. It is designed to sync to a PC via USB cable (no wireless functionality yet) and uploads all the data to the PBA Online website, so you can officially chart your child’s progress. So for all those people that need a chart to document their reality, you will be able to check on your newborn son or daughter’s sleep schedule, bottle feeding, breast pumping, diapers, temperature, medicine, and even growth. The PBA also works as a kind of alarm system. Not the type that can protect your home, but the type that has timers and alarms that are programmed to go off at important times like feeding. It can even be put on the belt and set to vibrate at the aforementioned important times. The Onaroo PBA costs about $49.95, and all of the online services are free. This is definitely an idea that I am pretty certain that I will never see.
