Fohawx – Making Safety Cool, one Helmet at a Time Posted: 23 Mar 2012 01:18 PM PDT My daughter hates to wear her helmet. She says its hot, it feels weird, and its not cool. I always try to recount some horrendous emergency room scenarios that involve fracturedskulls and hundreds of stiches. She doesnt see how having your head cracked open is a whole lot less cool than an ugly helmet. I make her wear it, but I know she secretly grumbles about it behind my back. The folks over at Fohawx know just how kids feel, inspired by their own little pain in… I mean kid, who also hated wearing his helmet. When the resourceful older sister glued a strip of colored papers down the center of the helmet, a new idea was born. Check out Fohawx, a line of uber-cool accessories that attach to any of your kids safety helmets, transforming them into instant fashion statements. On the slopes, at the rink or hell on wheels, Fohawx allows your kids to choose from a pretty wide range of designs, each with their own very special attitude. Kids can choose from wind whipped dreadlocks, wacky and colorful punk styles and high-top Mohawks. Fohawx are made to wear, collect, and swap, and they are just crazy enough that my daughter might actually ask to wear her helmet, she wants us both to get one… but I think I’m just a little too grown up to pull off a look that cool. Fohawx are available now in 5 different styles for both girls and boys, for under 20 bucks. Visit fohawx.com to purchase, or for more information. Galileo – 360 Degrees of Pan and Tilt Posted: 23 Mar 2012 10:58 AM PDT I love my new iPhone, I have to say it has brought to a whole new level the amount of time I can waste doing nothing constructive at all. Yes, it can help you be more productive as well, I just haven’t figured out how to use it that way yet. Perhaps I should take a class. I enjoy searching the net looking for new gadgets to use with the iPhone and this one looks interesting. Motrr, the same folks behind the whole Gorillapad line of camera tripods, is introducing the Galileo, a revolutionary iOS-controlled robotic iPhone platform with “infinite spherical rotation capability”. It works something like this: You swipe your finger across the screen of your iPad, iPhone or other iOS device and the Galileo reacts, moving and orienting your iPhone or iPod Touch in the direction of your choosing. The developers believe that the applications for their device are pretty far reaching. If you think about it, Galileo could be used anywhere that ease of orientation would be handy, like photography, chats, conferencing or even simple movie viewing. Eventually, Galileo will be made available to developers who can pair it with their own applications, like surveillance or even baby monitors. Capable of infinite 360 degrees pan-and-tilt at speeds up to 200 degrees per second in any direction, paired with the right app, Galileo could be one nifty device. The Galileo is rechargeable and it also works as a charging station for your iPhone or iPod Touch (when it’s plugged in). Galileo will be about $129.95 or, if you preorder now, around $85 (shipping soon) It is available in white, black, and in a limited edition Kickstarter Green. Interactive 8-bit Question Block Lamp Posted: 23 Mar 2012 06:00 AM PDT Those of you who are absolutely in love with what Nintendo has delivered via the Mario Bros. universe will definitely fall in love with this $74.99 fixture in your home – coming in the form of the Interactive 8-bit Question Block Lamp. Taking up to 2 weeks to process an order simply because it needs to be built from scratch, this labor of love is custom made right from the get go, measuring 6″ x 6″ x 6″, and is made out of laser-cut plexiglass. Inside, you will find energy-efficient LEDs running the show, while the lamp itself is light enough to be suspended from an integrated 11-foot power cord. It will work just about anywhere thanks to it being 100v-240v compatible, and there is also a custom acrylic stand sold separately if you prefer to place it by your bed. Unlike in the Mario video games, you need not punch this lamp, although a slow motion punching action that ends with a light touch will suffice in turning the lamp on or off. Each eighth time you toggle the light, you will be rewarded with a 1-Up noise, but standard “punches” will play back a classic coin noise. Conference Calendar – The global conference and expo finder. Samsung announces Premium Suite availability Posted: 23 Mar 2012 05:30 AM PDT The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is one mobile operating system update that many people are looking forward to, as not many devices offer Ice Cream Sandwich right out of the box. It seems that Samsung has just announced a Premium Suite upgrade that will head towards the Galaxy Note device – around the world, from Q2 onwards. This should be right in line for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update as well. Just what does the Premium Suite offer in terms of benefits to Galaxy Note owners? Well, for starters, the software package will include additional multimedia features as well as a range of new S Pen optimized applications. We shall take a look at the Premium Suite in greater detail right after the jump. First of all, the Premium Suite will come with a bunch of new features and applications that are made exclusive to Galaxy Note as well as its innovative S Pen, which will include the S Note, a special kind of tool that allows you to combine your notes or sketches alongside other digital content. This enables you to create your own stories right there and then, and even those who lack a creative direction can always rely on the S Note which comes alongside a slew of ready-to-use templates. The S Note will also include the innovative Shape Match and Formula Match applications, where they are able to help correct and digitize geometric shapes, in addition to solving numeric formulas that were hand-drawn with S Pen. Talk about increasing your efficiency and productivity wherever you are! I myself would just write down mathematical formulas just to see that happen time after time again. Tables and grids can be drawn before they end up digitized instantly. Not only that, there is My Story, another S Pen optimized application which allows you to conjure your very own personalized digital cards for friends or family, where you can draw from various content such as notes, video content, photos, text or voice. Last but not least – all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, which is why Angry Birds Space will offer feather flinging action right out of the box. Genius G-Shot HD575T is slimmest optical camcorder in the world Posted: 23 Mar 2012 05:00 AM PDT Genius is not exactly a name that you would associate with camcorders, but that had never stopped the engineers over at Genius to come up with what they deem as the slimmest optical camcorder in the market at the moment – in the form of the Genius G-Shot HD575T. Of course, we do not dispute Genius’ claims, but surely another company (or even Genius themselves) are able to come up with something slimmer in the future – it is just a matter of time. Targeting markets in the US and Canada, the G-Shot HD575T prides itself in being a hybrid high definition camcorder with a touchscreen display to keep up with the times, offering you the flexibility of shooting videos and pictures without having to break the bank. The main body width of the G-Shot HD575T measures a mere 2.28", and can record all of your favorite memories in 1080p resolution. Not only that, this particular camcorder can also shoot still images of up to 16-megapixels with the help of software interpolation. Not only that, it is also capable of capturing some images or videos from a distance away thanks to the inclusion of 5x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom capabilities. You will be able to open up the 3" LTPS touchscreen display that folds in and out, rotating if it need be. All it takes is a single touch of the screen before snapping a photo, and you are able to make changes to the brightness levels thanks to the user-friendly Auto Exposure feature. Once you have captured a fair number of images, you can opt to rotate them using a twist of your finger without having to do it over a computer. Other than that, Genius packs in the Arcsoft Total Media Extreme software that offers a professional photo editing ability, which can be used after you transferred the pictures and videos to your computer. There is also a Motion Detection Mode that allows the G-Shot HD575T to record without requiring anyone to stand beside the camera to steady it. Other hardware specifications include 32MB of internal memory with dual SD memory card slots, stashing away a microSD card and a SDHC card, respectively.
