Bheestie Bag can dry out soaked mobile devices

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 07:10 AM PST

You got to hand it to Bheestie (pronounced like “Beastie”) for several reasons. The first being that their Bheestie Bag solves a common problem, a wet mobile device.

Yes, we all know or are the person who has dropped a mobile device in a bathtub, toilet, or swimming pool. This bag is designed to save the wet cell phone, iPod, camera, or other small electronic device.

The Bheestie Bag “pulls the moisture out, keeping your electronic [devices] working properly”. All that is required is that the user unzip the Bheestie Bag, place the soaked device in a bag filled with Bheestie beads, and let it do the work. It is good for both accidents and simple daily maintenance.

Just to let you know, the name comes from a word that means “a servant who draws and carries water”. I give them points for the name, and their slogan: “Bheestie….It’s Thirsty”.

This is one product that I got to try out, but I have no intention on hurling my cellular phone into the water so I can see just how effective the Bheestie Bag is. I am going to keep it around in case the worst should happen.

If you want to give this a try, feel free to head over to the Bheestie Bag site and lay down $20.00 each. You can also buy them in bulk.

The Positive Vibration headphones by the House of Marley

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 07:05 AM PST

While I was at CES last January, I got a chance to see the lineup from House of Marley. It has been a while, but I finally got to try out the Positive Vibration headphones, just before the holiday season.

For those who aren’t familiar with the House of Marley, I will answer your first question: it is affiliated with Reggae legend Bob Marley. They are eco-conscious products that embody Bob Marley and the Marley family’s values of equality, unity, sustainability, and charity.

So how is the sound? What do you expect, it is positively terrific. Since I can’t demonstrate it in writing, it has 20Hz-20+kHz frequency response adds clear sound reproduction. Also included is a 50 millimeter dynamic moving coil speaker drive for sound reinforcement.

The Positive Vibration headphones are made from recycled and aluminum, and they come with a 52-inch fabric cord that reduces tangles. At the end of the cord is a right-angled, 3.5 millimeter gold-plated connector. The little springs on the sides give it an added aesthetic.

You should be able to get the Positive Vibration headphones at the House of Marley website for a price of $59.99. They come in three styles: Sun, with electric red and blue; Roots, in electric green and red; and Rasta, in black, yellow, and green.

Xtreme Mac’s InCharge Home USB for iPod, iPhone and iPad

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 07:00 AM PST

It is difficult to talk about the InCharge Home USB for the iPod, IPhone, and iPad without mentioning Energizer’s New 10W USB Chargers and Cables for iDevices that I reviewed last week. Considering that the InCharge Home USB has 10 Watts of power and is designed for the same type of device, you can see my dilemma.

It is always good to have another charger for iDevices around, as recharging cords tend to get lost. What I like about the InCharge is that the plugin is quite thin with flip-out prongs. The one from Energizer has flip-out prongs too, but it is slightly thicker.

Considering that most of us carry around devices that we need to charge with a USB cord, it is good to have something that you can plug into the wall and recharge a USB device. The InCharge Home is that device, and it has a “low profile design” that allows access to the second wall outlet, provided you plug the InCharge Home to the bottom plug-in on your outlet. The same goes for the Energizer product as well.

Just to let you know, the InCharge USB Home is a little more expensive than Energizer’s products, and you can get it on the Xtreme Mac site for about $29.99. Considering that they both do the same things, I don’t know if I can recommend one over the other with a month-long trial of each, and I really do have other things to do.

Panasonic does the 3D gig with Lumix DMC-3D1

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 05:30 AM PST

Stereoscopic 3D is the way to go where the future is concerned, but it will still take a fair bit of time before it catches up with the masses. After all, not everyone is lining up and rushing to purchase a 3D HDTV, and you don’t see a mad craze for all movies to be shown in 3D glory although you might say that film executives think otherwise. If you have a 3D-capable HDTV sitting at home (preferably part of the Panasonic ecosystem for obvious reasons with this post), then why don’t you take full advantage of it with the newly announced Panasonic Lumix DMC-3D1?

Yes sir, just like all other 3D cameras out there in the market, this particular model will also come with a twin-lens design so that it can shoot not only 3D images but stereoscopic 3D videos as well. Want to shoot regular stills without any eye-popping visuals? Not a problem, the Lumix DMC-3D1 does that equally well.

Just what kind of lenses does the Lumix DMC-3D1 pack? Well, for starters, it comes with 25mm ultra-wide angle lenses alongside 4x optical zoom that will deliver the outstanding capability to shoot high resolution 8-megapixel 3D photos and 1920 x 1080 60i high quality 3D HD video thanks to a side-by-side method. Thanks the kind of optics found in the Lumix DMC-3D1, you will be able to enjoy a wider range of composition possibilities as you have approximately 169% larger viewing space compared to that of 35mm cameras.

We used to have to make a choice – do we shoot photos or videos with a single camera? With the Lumix DMC-3D1, such a dilemma is no longer part of the equation, since it can do 2D photos and videos simultaneously. Shooting 12-megapixel 2D photos and recording 1920 x 1080i full HD 2D videos, you can always capture a particular moment in time for all immortality in two different formats, now how neat do you think that is?

Other hardware specifications include iA (Intelligent Auto) mode, MEGA O.I.S, AF Tracking, Intelligent Scene Selector, Face Recognition and Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Exposure and Intelligent Handheld Nightshot. Expect to see the Panasonic Lumix DMC-3D1 this coming December for $499.99.

Panasonic Lumix GX1 announced

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 05:00 AM PST

We are going to go Panasonic today with a couple of digital cameras, where we will first focus on the Lumix GX1. Sounds familiar as though it was part of the GF1 family which delivered Micro Four Thirds goodness to the world, doesn’t it? Well, Panasonic’s latest foray in the form of the Lumix GX1 intends to achieve the perfect balance between size and performance – so you can read on about the specifications and make a judgment for yourself.

Just what does the Lumix GX1 bring to the table? For starters, you will not be disappointed with the megapixel count at all – no sir, especially when your eyes will be treated to a 16.01-megapixel Live MOS sensor and Venus Engine, making sure that each press of the shutter button will result in real-to-life images via excellent resolution, image rendering and color reproduction. More to come about the Lumix GX1 in the extended post.

Do you love taking photos in low-light situations, but then again rue the difficulty of doing so? Well, let the Lumix GX1 show you what it is capable of in such situations thanks to a maximum 12800 high ISO sensitivity. This particular model will also adopt the Contrast AF as its focus system, where the focusing process is controlled by the image sensor. If one were to compare it with the Phase difference system AF, Contrast AF is said to be able to achieve higher accuracy especially when shooting using a bright lens with small F value.

There is also a 3″ touchscreen LCD display that makes it far easier to compose the frame of that particular image, making it highly intuitive and easy to do so. The inclusion of an ultra high-speed Light Speed AF assures the Auto Focus will work in approximately 0.09 second – talk about super fast! As for the newly-added focus mode AFF (AF Flexible), that feature will allow the GX1 to lock on the focus when the shutter button is half-pressed, resetting its focus when the subject moves.

Want to shoot video? Not a problem, as the Lumix GX1 does video recordings at 1920 x 1080 at 60i, thanks to a sensor output of 30p, your eyes will definitely enjoy full-High Definition videos in the AVCHD format. Right now as the Micro Four Thirds family grows, you have 14 Micro Four Thirds lenses to choose from to go along with the Lumix GX1 – including the new power zoom X lens.

The colors of choice would be just black or silver as the Lumix GX1 is rolled out in the middle of December this year, where a body-only package would go for $699.99.

Kontrol Freeks offers better gaming control

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 04:30 AM PST

Everyone loves to be in control – why else do you think those who sit in the backseat tend to shoot their mouth off, more often than not to the chagrin of the driver? Of course, when it comes to activities like video games, you cannot blame anyone else but yourself if you are not performing up to par – especially when your skill level with that of your opponent is on a similar plane. This is where hardware might make the difference, and for 11.99, you will be able to net yourself the Kontrol Freeks.

The FPS Freek PRESTIGE will come with silicone mushrooms that throw in additional length to the thumb sticks located on your controller, which in turn delivers a far greater range of movement so that you are able to gain more control over even the tiniest on-screen movements. Apart from that, the twin horns that are found on the Speed Freek components will enable faster thumb-stick twiddling. All you need to do is clip them on and your thumbs will remain put regardless of how much sweating they experience.
