Six Zone Heated Mattress Pad

Posted: 30 Jul 2010 07:30 PM PDT

Why not prepare for winter with the Six Zone Heated Mattress Pad from Hammacher? You might balk at the $249.99 price point since it might be a whole lot cheaper to just purchase an extremely thick blanket to keep yourself warm, but then again a blanket won’t be able to offer individual spots of different warmth on your mattress, does it? This heated mattress pad comes with half a dozen warming zones that can be adjusted independently to provide different levels of warmth under the head, torso, and leg regions for two sleepers. The heating elements themselves were specially woven into the mattress pad (with three under each sleeper), where individual zones come with 10 different temperature settings that enable one’s feet to remain toasty warm while your head rests on a slightly cooler surface. Just like most other things in the house today, this also comes with a wireless remote that lets you adjust the temperature settings. There is also a preheat function which allows the mattress pad to get warm before you jump into bed, and for safety reasons, it can turn itself off automatically after 10 hours. While the remote control requires a trio of AAA batteries to work, the mattress pad itself needs to feed off an AC outlet.

Quirky Kōsoku could be the perfect dog leash

Posted: 30 Jul 2010 07:17 PM PDT

What you see here is the quirky Kōsoku, a specially designed dog leash that has the comfort of both furkid and owner in mind. After all, most dog leashes in the market today cater for just the owner without thinking too much about the dog’s comfort, but the Kōsoku is very different since it combines both plush and rigid materials, making it the ideal walking companion. Among the features include a fully retractable 6-foot long leash (not recommended by some dog trainers though, retractable leashes), a reflective 3M tape surface for extra visibility when you take Fido out for early morning or late night walks, a side pocket to hold doggy "waste" bags, and shock-absorbent neoprene and durable nylon canvas wrapped around a semi-rigid core for strength and flexibility. It is good enough for dogs that weigh up to 90 lbs. – anything heavier than that and you’re out of luck. You can place a pre-order now for $37.

NZXT announces Phantom chassis for gaming enthusiasts

Posted: 30 Jul 2010 07:08 PM PDT

If you’re a hardcore computer gamer, chances are you love building up your very own rig from the ground up. After all, it gives you full control of what you want to see underneath the hood, and you won’t have to limit yourself to the whims and fancies of the hardware manufacturer itself. It often involves a lot of money though, so it could turn out to be a rather expensive hobby if you are one who likes to keep up with the times. While the internal parts are extremely important, more and more people are coming to realize that the chassis of the machine itself is also of importance – after all, it decides just how much stuff you can cram in there elegantly, while making your living room or workspace look good simultaneously. NZXT knows this, making them proud to announce the Phantom, their most elegant and intelligent chassis design to date.

What you’ll get with the Phantom is nothing ordinary, where we’re talking about high performance cooling advantages that include 7 fan cooling options with dual 200mm, single 230/200mm, triple 120mm, and front 140mm fans. Apart from that, the Phantom also comes with dual radiator support, quad watercooling cutouts, and an integrated fan controller with up to five 20W channels – now that ought to keep things running nice and cool even when you push its performance to the max. It can also hold larger heat sinks just in case you love overclocking your rig, while boasting enough space for bigger sized graphics cards. E-ATX motherboards enthusiasts will also be pleased to note that the Phantom supports this component as well, and we haven’t touched on the fact that it can hold 7 hard drives with SDD support and up to five 5.25" bays yet.

Apart from that, additional advanced features include an LED on/off button to control case lighting, rubber PSU and case feet that will go a long way in helping reduce vibration, easily removable front and top panels, and top mounted USB, Audio/Mic, and E-SATA ports. Out later this September, you can choose from white, red and black color options, where they will retail for $139.99 apiece.

Panasonic HM-TA1 camcorder is pocket-sized, yet offers full HD

Posted: 30 Jul 2010 07:00 PM PDT

Panasonic decides to jump into the pocket camcorder fray for casual users who want quality in a highly portable device, and the result of that would be the HM-TA1 camcorder. This device is capable of shooting full High Definition video at 1920 x 1080 pixels without any hassle at all, making it ideal for on-the-go shooting opportunities. Sporting an easy-to-use design intended for intuitive operation, the TA1 will also feature an integrated USB terminal that makes your traveling lighter since there is no need to carry around another USB cable if and when you want to transfer all your digital memories onto a computer. The pre-loaded software also makes it a snap for uploading videos to online sharing sites such as YouTube and Facebook without having to go through the tedium of processing said videos beforehand. Apple computer users will also be pleased to know that the TA1 comes with Apple iFrame video format (960 x 540/30p) support, making it ideal for for Mac users to import quickly and maintain small file sizes.

Apart from shooting HD video as its main diet, the HM-TA1 is no slouch when it comes to being a multi-tasker, working as a Web camera for folks who have yet to own something like this in their homes. Granted, a whole lot of notebooks and Apple MacBooks come with a built-in web camera these days, so it will probably go down well with desktop owners. All you need to do is plug it into an available USB port and you’re good to go, as the TA1 will play nice with IP-based video chat programs such as Skype.

It is extremely pocket friendly in terms of dimension (and price, which you will find out later), measuring just 2.09″ x 0.7″ x 4.09″ while tipping the scales at a mere 0.25lb, including a battery and SD memory card. Each TA1 will come with a wrist strap, making it perfect for being carried around without worries of losing it. With single-function buttons such as Power, Play, Record, Still Photo, LED Light (on/off) and Delete, even beginners are able to get straight into the middle of video recording action right out of the box. Shooting stills of up to 8-megapixels is another ability found on the TA1, making it another secondary digital camera device for your home. Out in purple, dark grey and red color options from next month onwards, the Panasonic HM-TA1 will retail for $169.95.
