T-Shirt lets you see right through someone

Posted: 26 Oct 2010 04:21 PM PDT

This a T-Shirt that is inspired by the popular PC game Portal. I’m sure most of you have heard of it, or played it, at some point.

For those aren’t familiar with it, it is a game where you have a gun that can make an entry portal and then an exit portal. You need to use this dimension-crossing technology to solve some interesting puzzles.

Benjamin Heckendorn, aka Ben Heck, has created a Portal shirt that allows you to look right through him. The shirt has a chest-mounted LCD screen for the front, and a CCD camera for the back. Whatever the camera films on the back is shown on the front, creating an interesting see-through effect.

In case you haven’t heard of Ben Heck, he is a man who loves to do modding on video game merchandise. For example, he has made an XBox 360 laptop that you can see in the picture here.

I’m sure that this shirt is probably expensive to make, but you’ve got to admire how cool it is to have shirt that you can see-through. I’m not talking about mesh material either. I suppose there could be an age when chest-mounted LCDs could be real cheap, and the camera as well. Then everyone would have one of these. There’s a fad for the future!

Blink Now reminds you of an involuntary action

Posted: 26 Oct 2010 03:53 PM PDT

Sometimes the products that I report on at Coolest Gadgets can be “too good to be true”, and they are usually concept gadgets what we will probably never see. Then there are products like Blink Now, which seem too silly too be true. Maybe someone needs to call Foolish Gadgets on this one.

Blink Now is a small LCD display designed to perch atop your monitor like a webcam. Only the Blink Now just looks like it is watching you.

On this LCD screen is a single eye that blinks at random intervals. Apparently, this can subliminally remind the user of the importance of blinking while working on a computer. That way, the user won’t get Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) which is the result of extended computer use.

I honestly have never heard of a computer screen affecting my blinking rate, and certainly didn’t hear about any harmful effects. I always thought my blinking was an involuntary action, and I didn’t need a reminder. What’s next, a thing that subliminally reminds me to breathe?

Well, Blink Now is available at the BLAZE website, for a price of about $79. It is only available for pre-order, and it should be shipped to you before November. Assuming it is real, of course.

Power Loader Light from Activelink

Posted: 26 Oct 2010 03:26 PM PDT

It has been a year since we reported on the Power Loader, an Exoskelton that allows the user to lift heavy loads.

The Power Loader is made by a company known as Activelink, a Toyko-based robot venture spun off from Panasonic. It is clearly inspired by scenes from the James Cameron/Sirgourney Weaver science fiction classic Aliens.

This version that you see here is known as the Power Loader Light. I suppose it is Ripley’s big and heavy yellow metal suit on a diet. As you might have guessed, it isn’t that light, though.

In fact, it weighs in at about 84 pounds. Yes, that is pretty heavy, but it can help the user lift about 220 pounds worth of weight. Granted, I’m not certain how that can be possible, because I don’t see any robot arms included in this picture. Anyway, my Source says it can also boost the power of the legs by 88 pounds.

In case you were hoping to get on a Power Loader Light and become the next Iron Man superhero vigilante, you will have to wait. It probably won’t be available until 2015, with a price that Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark could easily afford: $233,000. On the bright side, Universities and other similar institutions should be able to get it for about $122,000.

SAECO XELSIS DIGITAL ID – the coffeemaker that cares

Posted: 26 Oct 2010 09:15 AM PDT

Okay, so I've been married for over 10 years and usually I'm the one in charge of making the coffee. Unfortunately, to this day, I still have to ask my husband how he likes it. I suppose if I thought about it, I would remember, but who has the energy at 7 in the morning?

Thankfully, Saeco has set out to save my marriage, Its touch panel has a fingerprint scanner that memorizes the preferences, such as strength and amount of froth, for up to six people and automatically brews one cup at a time. So with one quick touch, he can make the coffee himself and I don't even have to be there.

It also has a nifty display that shows the name of the person who's beverage is being prepared. It has an elegant stainless steel design with mirror finish and all the regular features we would come to expect from a high end coffee machine including a cup warmer, ceramic grinder, self cleaning tank and an easy to read display.

At $2500 I won't be able to tell my husband what I paid for it, or he'll have a problem with that too. My husband also thinks it should have presets instead of a fingerprint reader, that way I could still make his coffee… will it never end?
