NEO SNES/SFC Myth cart

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 04:56 PM PST

Always wanted to run your favorite SNES ROMs, but prefer a more authentic experience to it? The NEO SNES/SFC Myth cart makes that possible – just load all those ROMs onto it from a computer via USB, insert the cart into your still working SNES/SFC and you’re good to go. Just make sure the ROMs are no larger than 64MB in size, and good news is, it supports all save types and is compatible with all but 0.5% of SNES/SFC games out there, with selected games requiring the DXP cart support. We wonder whether Nintendo will file for a lawsuit against such hardware knowing their notorious demands for protection against piracy.

Car runs on coffee

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 04:53 PM PST

Folks who need to have their regular cup of joe each day can definitely identify with this vehicle known as the Carpuccino. What used to be a regular '88 Volkswagen Scirocco has been highly modified (you don’t say) for it to run off of coffee grounds. Of course, mileage is worse than a ummer since you will need up to 56 espressos in order to move the vehicle a mere mile. Economics-wise, this translates to it being 50 times more expensive than using regular gas, but it will definitely keep coffee growers happy, eh? A classic case of doing it because they can, and practicality is thrown out of the window.

Samsung E6 eReader ready to hit the US market

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 04:49 PM PST

Samsung wants to rock and roll with their own eBook reader as well which they have dubbed the E6 eReader (how convenient). It will still take some time to see just whether this market is big enough to support so many players, as eBook readers don’t seem to be making that much of an impact in the world against regular paperbacks compared to how the MP3 format literally brought the CD industry to its knees, with the iPod gaining a humongous market share that Apple doesn’t seem likely to be giving up its throne in that department anytime soon. But I digress – the Samsung E6 eReader now only allows you to access your content easily, it also doubles up as a form of digital notepad, taking down notes as well as thoughts on the page directly, the ability to highlight content and sharing notes with friends and peers. Samsung has merged more than a million electronic titles, advanced handwriting capabilities and Wi-Fi connectivity into a single, easy-to-use device which we’ll look at in greater detail right after the jump.

What makes the E6 most outstanding would be its electromagnetic resonance (EMR) stylus pen that allows users the writing capabilities which are normally found only on traditional paper books. Should you wish to make annotations in the margins and record your thoughts and interpretations while reading, the E6 is more than happy to cater to that. Heck, even images can be modified easily via direct handwriting and memos, while those who prefer to get things down in a jiffy will look forward to its voice recording functionality that lets one make audio memos and annotations.

Featuring a slider form factor, the E6 comes with a 6" E-ink display at 600 x 800 resolution with 8-Gray scale for easy readability both indoors and out. It will suppor thte following formats – e-pub, PDF/a, TXT, BMP and JPG. Thanks to the built-in front speakers and head-phone jack, you can enjoy Samsung's text-to-speech (TTS) technology in private or in public, while tuning in to your favorite MP3s when traveling. Wi-Fi connectivity is thrown into the mix as well, accompanied by Bluetooth 2.0 for wireless transmission. The 2GB of internal memory can store up to 1,500 books or 24,000 pages of memos, where it is augmented by a microSD memory card slot.

Dell has announced yet another stylish series from the Vostro family – this time round it is the Vostro 3000 series to hit the deck, where it will come across as a range of thin, lightweight as well as durable laptop that won’t crack under pressure easily. Folks who are always on the go and demand the best performance from their machines might very well consider the new Vostro 3000 series, considering it comes with a choice of powerful processors, high-end graphics as well as built-in security, targeting small businesses that require robust mobile computing solutions.

With the Vostro 3000 series, one will be able to find the latest powerful Intel Core processor technology inside, and for those who need even more processing firepower, there is the option to throw in an Intel Core i7 Quad Core processor. This 13″ laptop comes with a built-in integrated optical drive, so you need not worry about the problems that come with a measly netbook. Folks who want portability and productivity, there is always the Vostro 3300 – touted to be among the industry's thinnest commercial 13″ laptop that boasts an integrated optical drive. As for those who are always living out of a suitcase more than in a home, the 14″ Vostro 3400 is more than capable of offering a whole day’s worth of computing with an 8-hour rating for its battery.

All of the new Vostro 3000 series laptops will come with an embedded webcam and microphone that makes it a snap to hold video calls wherever you are, while the Vostro 3500 and 3700 sport the option for high definition WLED screens with the 3700 being able to hold up to 1GB of NVIDIA® GeForce discrete graphics, letting you get your game on wherever you are. The presence of an HDMI port ensures that you can make high definition presentations to clients when required – assuming there is a nice HDTV available wherever you are, of course. Since these Vostros are meant to travel a whole lot, the hinges and laptop itself are encased in aluminum for extra protection, while you get round the clock customer service should something go awry.

Sony Fusion is a desk for the future, needed now

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 02:59 PM PST

Clearly, we are going to live in an age where “technology” and “furniture” will be synonymous. For example, if you have a couch or a bed, then it had better be set up with an Internet radio and vibrating feature. If you have a coffee table, then it had better be a Microsoft Surface.

Or, if you have a small desk, then that table will have a hidden computer. This is the Sony Fusion, which has a surface that opens up to reveal a workstation with an adjustable screen and touch sensitive keyboard.

In addition to these features, it has a DVD drive as well as an LED outlined keyboard. It certainly looks like it could easily be a desk in the classroom of the future. As it is, classrooms of the present need something like this now. Yes, that is a slam on the education of today. I suppose that One Laptop Per Child is supposed to apply to those who live in underfunded schools like those in America.

I’m not certain when Sony is planned to go into any production, but it should be available in three different colors of blue, white, and red. Hey, just what a school needs to match its school colors. Of course, these desks cost $3,000 each, so maybe a private school could afford this.

10 Minute Solution comes to the Wii

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 02:33 PM PST

Some of you have probably heard of the 10 Minute Solution series of exercise DVDs. I mean, they have a Pilates version, Tone and Trouble Zone version, even one called Hot Body Boot Camp. (Shouldn’t it be called Hot Body Booty Camp? Just saying.)

Anyway, Anchor Bay Entertainment, who makes these 10 Minute Solution videos, is planning on doing some business on the Wii as they are making a Wii version of the 10 Minute Solution. The 10 Minute Solution for the Wii uses the WiiFit board, and has three categories of aerobics, cardio boxing, and other mixed games.

I can’t help but wonder why the 10 Minute Solution is being made into a Wii game when the Wii Fit has a very in-depth exercise program. I suppose that the 10 Minute Solution is probably the current exercise fad that will eventually go the way of Jane Fonda, the 20 Minute Workout, Tae-bo, Buns of Steel, and countless others before and after. I guess 10 Minute Solution wanted to make a Wii game before the fad dies, and before the new version of the Wii comes out.

Anyway, the 10 Minute Solution for the Wii should be out soon, but I don’t have the release date as yet. The price point is about $19.99, which is about the same price as the WiiFit Plus without the balance board.

Power Gig: Rising of the SixString gives the six string its gaming glory

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 02:00 PM PST

The Game Developers Conference gave us a very interesting music game: Power Gig: Rise of the SixString. The most obvious description of it is Guitar Hero with a real guitar.

It is developed by Seven45 Studios, a sister company of First Act, leading musical instrument maker responsible for making the entry-level guitars, basses, and other instruments found at such retailers as target and Wal-Mart.

The guitars that Power Gig comes with are reported to look like the guitars used by younger jammers, and they can be hooked up to any guitar amp. I believe that these games are set up to work for the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, and my source tells me that there is some sort of “dampening block” that holds the strings in place, and the guitar’s fingerboard controls the game.

So, will this Power Gig make Guitar Hero and Rock Band players want to play a real guitar. I would have to say that it does remove the middleman.

Also, does it really make sense that our retail stores have shelves full of plastic instruments but nothing of the real thing? By the way, when Power Gig: Rise of the SixString arrives this fall, but will also include a microphone and drums. I wonder if those will be the real thing too.

Orange’s Thunder 30 Amp

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 12:00 PM PST

It’s not too difficult to pick up on that there seems to be a common color among amps that you find onstage.  It’s not that manufacturers are incapable of creating a different color combination, it’s more that most bands prefer their sound equipment to blend in with the woodwork.  Well for the bands that want something a little different for a change, Orange has a whole set of brightly colored sound equipment.  I’m sure you can guess what color they all feature.

In recent events they came out with the Thunder 30, which is expected to be released sometime during the spring.  The Thunder 30 features four EL84 class power valves that will kick out 30 watts.  One new portion about this new gadget is that it has a twin channel setup.  It also has an FX loop, standard clean channel and a dedicated overdrive/distortion channel with shape control.  It appears to be a great choice for those that value both sound quality as well as looks.

Lunar Car Solar Robot Kit

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 11:00 AM PST

If you can’t get enough of robots, here’s another kit to help you build your very own that won’t cost you a bunch of money in batteries.  This simple little robot will give you something to play with on your desk while you’re probably supposed to be doing something else.  That always seems to be the best time to play with desktop friendly toys.  This kit can be built by yourself or you can enlist the help of a kid, although perhaps they should be a little older due to small parts.

The solar powered kit will teach you how to build a gearbox and also how automatic transmissions and motors work.  It comes with push-out pre-cut balsa wood pieces.  You’ll also be making a simple wiring circuit with a solar panel, battery, motor and switch.  Once it’s all put together you can use a flip switch to choose between using the power from the battery or the solar panel.  You can purchase it for £19.12 or about $29 through Ecotopia.

Power Strip With Foot Switch

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 10:13 AM PST

I have a few gadgets that I think should have a power switch on them, but unfortunately you have to unplug them to turn them off.  I’m not exactly fond of crawling under my desk to switch something off, which is probably not something anyone enjoys.  For those of you that don’t want to have to reach for a switch or don’t want to crawl under you desk to unplug gadgets, there is this extension cord that can be shut off with your foot.

Sure, you could probably flip a switch with your foot, but this one has a wider switch making it far easier to switch off.  Although I’d advise placing this in a spot that you won’t accidentally tap the switch over and over again.  The power strip will accommodate 6 of your gadgets.  You can purchase the Woods Ind. Power Strip With Foot Switch for $13 through Amazon.
