Magneat helps you work out hassle-free

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 05:53 PM PST

Most of us who spend plenty of time at the gym (or basically are involved in an active outdoor lifestyle) and tune in to their favorite songs over an iPod might just find the Magneat to be just what they need – it helps you enjoy a wired listening experience without having the cord getting all tangled up in the most unexpected places. Of course, since it relies on the magic of magnets, you would have to make sure that your connected portable media player is flash memory-based and does not run off hard drives, since there is always a chance of having all data on your hard drive erased.

For those of us who still have a vast archive of memories in the form of film and negatives, the Photo and Negative Scanners might just come in handy. It helps save you a ton of dough from professionals who scan your pohotos into a digital archive format, as you can now do-it-yourself. These are one-touch 5.1-megapixel scanners that make it a snap to digitize all of your favorite memories – all you need to do is slip in the relevant photos, negatives or slides and it will get to work straight away, allowing you to make backups of those onto an external hard drive or even upload them (after conversion) to Facebook or other social networking sites. There are two models to choose from – PICS 2 PC and PICS 2 SD, where the former retails for £119.99 while the latter goes for £139.99, with images transferred over to a computer and SD card, respectively.

Speed Camera Secretly Bird Feeder

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 04:11 PM PST

I’m one of the many that lives on a road where people drive far faster than I’d like.  Well for those of you ready to take action, you can take a cue from Bill Angus.  He managed to make a bird feeder that actually makes drivers slow down.  He did it by making it look like a speed camera.  It’s definitely one way to get people to follow the speed limit just a little closer.

The retired police officer from UK put the bird feeder and house combination right by the road running alongside his house.  So far it has actually managed to get a lot of drivers to slow down.  Of course it might not work so well now that he’s posted information on the internet about his little trick.  I’m sure it will at least fool a couple of people that have managed to live under a rock.

Solar-powered shower from Arkema

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 03:33 PM PST

In all honesty, if you were going to show me this shower, I would probably still report on it based on its looks alone.

I don’t even care if it worked, just look at it! It’s just some sort of curvy tower that is just plain sexy. But better than that, it is solar powered!

Now you can enjoy a long, hot shower in the sunshine with this eco-friendly powered device. It even has a thermostat that can be set at 30/38 degrees Celsius for safety.

Remember that shape I was raving on about? Actually, the reason behind it was to create a head that is easily adjustable. The shower is also made to have some cold water that is perfect for rinsing the feet.

Now, let’s talk practicality. Apparently, this shower is meant to be used indoors, which means that the solar panel will definitely have to be mounted outside the house.

According to my source, the shower can be used outdoors. I’m not certain how much hot water you would want to take a shower outdoors, though. After all, if it is too cold outside, then it is sheer foolishness to shower outdoors. However, maybe this could be used on pool showers. The kinds you are required to use before jumping in the pool. You probably don’t want to use that much hot water if it is a hot day, so solar power seems the perfect power source for this occasion.

Of course, a lot of pools will have to be completely renovated just to match the look of this particular shower.

Bloom Box can save a lot of money on energy

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 03:02 PM PST

Everybody wants affordable energy without any hazardous emissions, and there have always been some company working on things like cold fusion or other things that seem like pipe dreams.

Pipe dreams until someone actually perfects it. I’m not certain how close Bloom Energy is to creating that awesome energy, but their Bloom Box certainly comes close.

Bloom Box just recently got some spotlight from the long-running news show 60 Minutes. See how it works after the jump, as well as a short video.

It sucks up oxygen on one side and fuel like natural gas and biomass on the other. Essentially, the Bloom Box will bake sand and cut it into tiny squares, and they are then turned into ceramics and that are coated with green and black “inks”. These ceramic disks are stacked up, and more power is generated depending on their height. I’m not certain if there is some sort of fuel you need to buy for this, but I hope it is renewable.

According to 60 Minutes, one of the first clients of the Bloom Box was eBay. They claim that these green boxes have saved the company over one hundred thousand dollars.

Are we looking at a future where everyone has a Bloom Box in their backyard? If they can save me thousands of dollars on my energy bill, I don’t see why not.

IDAPT Compact Charging Stations

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 02:57 PM PST

If you’re trying to manage all of those chargers, this IDAPT charging station can handle a few of your gadgets at once.  It’d at least make your desktop a whole lot less cluttered.  You’ll still have just as many gadgets on your desk, but they’ll look a little more organized sitting on this charger than they would scattered all about.  Plus this’ll help free up space as far as your outlets go.

The i2 and i3 models are two different sizes.  The i2 will accommodate two of your gadgets, whereas the i3 has three different ports.  When you purchase one you’ll also receive six popular charging tips.  If out of those tips you don’t find what you need, there are twenty-two available, so you can always order a different one.  Through those tips available, they’ll apparently take care of 3,500 different gadgets.  The charging station can also handle your rechargeable batteries.  You can purchase one for £20 or about $30.  Then the i3 will cost you £30 or about $45.

Tamtam Flash by Designaffairs Studio puts directions on any flat surface

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 02:37 PM PST

I have never used a GPS while walking, but if I did, I would want to use a Tamtam instead of a TomTom.

This is the Tamtam Flash from Designaffairs Studio, and it is designed to make it easy for the average pedestrian who is traveling on the sidewalk instead of on the highway.

As you can see, the Tamtam works as a flashlight which will enable it to work on any flash surface, such as this sidewalk. I can imagine that there must be some chip in it that makes certain that the arrow always points in the correct direction.

I have no idea how the user programs it. Perhaps the user has to connect the flashlight to a separate apparatus, or maybe the whole thing can be programmed right on the flashlight itself. Maybe it will have a touchscreen.

Of course, this is still in the concept phase for now. Why else do you think a silhouette is holding it in the picture. I’m not certain why they went with this shadow of a person rather than a real person, but it looks like the shadow is holding a Wiimote.

The plan is to make certain that this flashlight can create not only arrows, but scrollable maps on the wall. There is even plans to get the Tamtam Flash to read QR codes.

iPod Lava Docking Station

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 01:25 PM PST

One thing I really didn’t see coming was an iPod dock combined with a lava lamp.  I suppose it shouldn’t surprise me.  It seems like everyone is trying to combine iPod docks in strange new ways, so a lava lamp is only the next logical step.  It’ll make this dock a hit within any frat house and any teenager’s bedroom.  If you’re into lava lamps this would make it possible to stare at a glowing blob while you listen to your favorite music.

This dock is compatible with all iPods except for the iPod Touch, so if you have an older iPod you’re in luck.  It has a total of 8 docking station insert adapters to allow for the different sizes.  The dock will charge up your iPod all the while you get to enjoy the LED light show.  The light show itself will phase along with the music, from changing colors to pulsing along with the beat.  You can purchase the docking station for £69.99 or about $100
