The Looftlighter lets my fire!

Posted: 22 Aug 2011 08:30 AM PDT

This weekend, I had a chance to try out the Looftlighter, and I was not certain what I was getting into. At first I thought it was some device to light fires, like an advanced Aim-and-Flame.

What I got was not what I expected. The Looftlighter is a device that plugs into the wall, and is able to start fires without lighter fluid. Considering that much of my barbeque budget goes to lighter fluid, I was intrigued.

I decided to try it out on a few charcoal briquettes on my barbeque. I held the Looftlighter up to the coals, and then turned it on. The Looftlighter was able to heat up to 1,000 degrees at its tip. After a few minutes, there was sparks and the charcoal and it was aflame.

It seemed only to stay aflame when the Looftlighter was on it. I decided to leave the coals as it was, and check back later. One hour later, I saw the coals were still burning.

In other words, the Looftlighter was a complete success! I would not recommend it be in the hands of young children, but as long as the adult is not a pyromaniac, then you have a safe firestarting tool on your hands. It even comes with an attached bottle opener.

In short, I recommend the Looftlighter. You should be able to find out more information about it here, and you can get it on ThinkGeek for about $79.99.

Squeeze as much toothpaste as you can from the tube

Posted: 22 Aug 2011 08:15 AM PDT

For some reason, we are still addicted to the tube of toothpaste as an acceptable container. I’m sure that we all have our way of getting out the last drop of toothpaste from that tube.

Some of you use that method where you roll up the tube, or spread the tube out on the sinktop corner. I’m sure there are other methods, but designer Catherine Werdel’s invention could change things.

I don’t really think that I need to explain how this works. All you need to do is slide the toothpaste tube through to the toothbrush. When I first saw this particular device, I thought it was an original idea. Then I wondered how in the world someone squeezes out the toothpaste on the brush with an apparatus like this.

Perhaps we need just switch all tubes to those hard plastic pump things. In fact, why didn’t we completely make the switch back in the eighties? Is it because these hard plastic tubes always leave some toothpaste inside? I am pretty certain that it is harder to get the toothpaste out of the hard plastic tube than it is with the squeezable one.

I don’t see any word on when this particular device will be out yet.

FitDesk lets you pedal while you work

Posted: 22 Aug 2011 08:00 AM PDT

As someone who works from home for a majority of my job, I am concerned about my sedentary lifestyle.

I don’t consider myself “fat” but I believe that I’m probably overweight. That probably means that I am overweight if I am not willing to admit it. However, if I did my work from a FitDesk, I might find that at least my legs would be more muscular.

The FitDesk is a pretty simple concept based on putting a desk atop a stationary bike where the handlebars are. I’m not certain whether my work will be the same quality if I am pedaling and typing at the same time, but at least I am exercising.

Right now, I am typing this paragraph while I am sit-running in place. I have to admit, I am feeling the burn, but my typing is getting slower. I guess you can’t tell that since you are reading the end-product.

Still, I like the idea of typing, and then pedaling while I’m trying to figure out what to type next. I might as well be exercising my body as well as my mind. This is definitely better than putting my computer on a treadmill, or something.

I’m not certain how well a laptop would stay on this desk, as the one in the picture looks glued on or attached with double-stick tape. If you want to try it out, be prepared to spend $229.

Darth Vader CD Player

Posted: 22 Aug 2011 06:00 AM PDT

Do you remember the muppets, those hand-puppets that seemingly have their heads shaved in half at the point of the mouth whenever they talk, and I can’t help but remember that whenever I lay my eyes on the Darth Vader CD Player. Strange though that the Dark Lord of the Sith, surrounded by such high tech droids and ships, is reduced to a mantelpiece that splits open in half at the nose to reveal a…CD player.

Yea, seems to be the perfect gift for those who prefer physical media to hold their music, don’t you think so? Good thing this officially licensed product isn’t going to cost a pretty penny at just $69.95 a pop. Just in case you get sick and tired of the tunes in your CD collection, there is always the far more random option – scour through the various AM/FM radio stations on this puppy. There is a telescopic antenna located in the rear base, letting you receive better reception without having Vader look like a wuss.

Razer Battlefied 3 BlackWidow Ultimate mechanical keyboard

Posted: 22 Aug 2011 05:30 AM PDT

When it comes to gaming peripherals, you know you can’t go wrong with what Razer has to offer. After all, this company has long been a champion of gaming peripherals that just ooze with quality, and their latest foray into a video game franchise ties up with the surefire hit – Battlefield 3 from publisher Electronic Arts. Well, there will be a mouse, hard mouse mat and Xbox 360 controller that will also sport the Battlefield 3 branding, but for now, we will concentrate on the Razer Battlefied 3 BlackWidow Ultimate mechanical keyboard.

At first glance, it does seem to be rather familiar to most of you, don’t you think so? Especially when you consider the fact that the BlackWidow Ultimate mechanical keyboard has already been in the market, but this time around you will get Battlefield 3 branding all over it to make sure that whoever stumbles upon your gaming rig will know how big of a fan you are of the particular series.

It does not matter just what role you are going to play in the Battlefield 3 game – whether you are hard at work raining thunder behind enemy lines on a fighter jet, or simply shooting holes at the enemy base using a tank to make sure their defenses are more porous than Spongebob Squarepants, or playing the bit-part role of a fearless infantry unit, the Battlefield 3 Razer BlackWidow Ultimate gaming keyboard will not fall short when duty calls.

It has a full-fledged, heavy-duty mechanical key infrastructure that delivers crisp, tactile feedback as well as faster keystroke actuation to your gameplay, and if you are the type who loves playing in a dimly lit room, then the keyboard is fully backlit – letting you get your game on without disturbing anyone else in the vicinity with the clickety-clack sounds of keys being pressed.

As with most of the other Razer products, this one is always more affordable to purchase Stateside than in Europe, since the figure remains the same, just the currency differs. At $139.99/€139.99 a pop, the Razer Battlefied 3 BlackWidow Ultimate mechanical keyboard can be yours this coming October 25th. Anyone interested?
