The Wellness Monitor

Portable-health-monitor-clips-on-belt

If you’re attempting to make a lifestyle change and become a little more healthy, this is a device to monitor all of your daily activities.  It’s kind of like an electronic nanny that tracks your every move and even how long you manage to sleep at night.  It knows all.  With this you’ll be able to easily find out how many calories you’ve burned, even when you’re doing things that do not require walking.

This will track the intensity and the duration of your movements, steps taken, as well as the distance traveled.  It even has a wristband you wear while you sleep that’ll let you know how long you were actually asleep and how often you woke up.  When the device gets within 15 feet of the charging station, it will then automatically upload all of the info to the manufacturer’s website.  On that website your readings are displayed on timelines and graphs.  You can purchase the device for $99.95 from Hammacher and Schlemmer.

Tangle Tronics twisted speakers

For being simple bright white speakers, these are surprisingly interesting to look at.  They aren’t exactly the type that would be great to carry around with you.  However, they’d be great to keep on a desk or just anyplace in your home that could use a little more music.  These twisted speakers also allow for you to change the angle in which you choose to listen to your music.

These do require batteries, but there is also an AC power adaptor just in case you don’t want to use up all of the battery power.  It can also plug into your USB port to stay powered as well.  It has a power-on indicator light and volume control directly on the speakers.  The set of speakers will work for kids ages 8 and up.  You can purchase your own for $39.99 from Amazon.

25MPH Remote Controlled Motorcycle

Posted: 17 Dec 2009 05:30 AM PST

remote-motorcycleRemote control cars and robots have long been the rage, but somehow or rather motorcycles of the same nature were hard to come by simply because the market (read: parents) wasn’t really prepared to have these zip around the homes in a non-chalant manner, tripping everyone up and scaring the pets in the process. Well, times have certainly changed, and with the advancement in technology, we now have the 25MPH Remote Controlled Motorcycle.

This is the remote controlled Grand Prix-styled motorcycle that can reach a top speed of 25 MPH. The triple-channel pistol grip transmitter that provides throttle, steering, and braking control up to 300′ away. You can tune the front wheel’s rake angle for easier or more aggressive turning as your handling skills improve. Functioning front and rear oil-filled shock absorbers cushion the natural rubber tires over bumps and helps carve smoothly through tight turns. A four-hour charge of its NiMH battery using the included adapter provides 18 minutes of racing time. Remote requires eight AA batteries.

Frankly, we think it is pretty silly to wait for four hours to juice up before getting a mere 18 minutes (!) of track time. Still, if you’re adamant on picking this up for Christmas, it is going for $249.95 from Hammacher.

Evangelion digital piggy bank

Runat of Japan is back with a brand new digital piggy bank which was sculpted to resemble the head on Eva 01 of the Evangelion series. As with more modern coin banks, this one will feature an ATM-like system which is able to keep track of just how much cash you have put it, regardless of whether they are coins or paper money. Heck, ever retrieving your money from it during a rainy day has gone hi-tech with the need for a PIN number. All numbers are printed on the keyboard as kanji, so a working knowledge of the Japanese language would come in handy if you decide to import this for the holidays.

Huntkey offers H403 mid tower case

Hardcore gamers and those who are serious about what goes into their computer case are also pretty specific when it comes to the computer chassis itself, and we’re glad to report that Huntkey Enterprise Group is offering its latest PC case that will target DIY enthusiasts – the H403 mid tower case that is characterized by a friendly design and futuristic lines for ATX/ Micro ATX motherboard formats, coupled with avant-garde features. The H403 is able to offer an above average cooling structure which complies with Intel TAC 2.0 heat dissipation specifications that are constructed mainly out of 0.6 SECC materials, making it one of the better options out there if you’re looking for a PC chassis not to be trifled with when it comes to stability and functionality.

What makes the H403 stands out from the rest of the crowd would be its highly efficient ventilation that is powered by an outstanding cooling system. While its inside structural design complies with Intel TAC 2.0 heat dissipation specifications, the components within will also benefit from the anti-dust mesh design of the front panel – as we all know, dust is never good for electronics, so it is good to vacuum the innards of your PC once in a while to keep it running in tip-top condition, otherwise if you’re too lazy to do so, get a chassis like the H403 to minimize maintenance. Keeping things cool inside quietly would be its ultra silent 12 cm LED fan with an option to place another fan on the back panel strengthen its overall ventilation. If fans don’t cut the mustard for you, you can always throw in a liquid cooling system to the H403.

Other specifications of the H403 include :-

  • M/B Type: Micro ATX/ATX
  • Colors: Black and Silver
  • Multi Port: USB2.0 x 2/Audio/e-SATA
  • Material: 0.6mm SECC
  • Cooling Fan: Front 120mm (LED Fan)/Rear 120mm (optional)
  • Dimension: 475 x 190 x 450mm (LxWxH)
  • Drive Bay: 5.25″x 4, 3.5″x 7
  • Expansion Slots: 7

ZigBee Remote Control

Posted: 17 Dec 2009 04:00 AM PST

zigbee-alliance

The ZigBee Alliance has just announced the release of its ZigBee Remote Control, where the company aims to make it the new global standard where advanced remote controls are concerned. In fact, the ZigBee Remote Control will be the first public application profile that was specially designed for use with the ZigBee RF4CE specification which was announced earlier in 2009. With the ZigBee Remote Control, it frees consumers from pointing remotes at devices, thus offering flexible control from nearby rooms. This makes way for unique two-way communications between the remote and device, alongside improved remote battery life in a wide range of consumer electronic devices including the now-pervasive HDTV, home theater equipment, set-top boxes and other audio equipment.

This would mean the
ZigBee Remote Control will oust 30 year-old infrared (IR) technology with radio frequency (RF) control, while doing away with the need for all the pointing confusion coupled with other performance problems that are normally associated with IR remotes and large screen LCD and plasma TVs. Apart from that, it is also a boon to any seasoned couch potato especially with its ability to locate misplaced remote controls. Boasting a common command set for true interoperability, the ZigBee Remote Control eliminates the need for multiple remote controls. As for your equipment, you can now store them anywhere you like – including out of sight, since the ZigBee Remote Control is still able to zap your commands despite the obstacles in place. Other features include enhanced user interfaces, advanced display capabilities and over-the-air upgrades and programmability.

It would be interesting to see which CE company will take up the challenge of making their devices work with the ZigBee Remote Control. Gotta love the never-lose-the-remote part – it will definitely save you a whole lot of time searching all over the place, and it might even improve marital relations since you guys no longer need to argue about who was the last person to use the remote control, eh?
