Ali Spagnola’s Power Album Shot Glass USB

Posted: 06 Oct 2011 08:15 AM PDT

I would have to say that I have no personal experience with drinking games. I can honestly say that this product is not for me, and I don’t think I can recommend it simply because I didn’t try it out.

At least I didn’t try out the drinking part. The Shot Glass USB comes with a USB drive that has 60 songs, all of them approximately one minute long. As the first song by Ali Spagnola states, you take a drink after each song ends.

In case you are worried about getting too drunk to hold the shot glass, it comes with a removable lanyard. The USB drive full of the music stashes nicely underneath the cup itself.

This is where I could get really preachy about alcohol and drinking responsibly, as I must admit that something like this could seriously encourage drinking irresponsibly.

Personally, I would love to see a “who passes out first” contest between Marion from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Legolas from Lord of the Rings. My money is on Marion.

If you are not in an AA twelve-step program and would like to check out the Ali Spagnola Power Hour Drinking Game for yourself, then you can buy it for about $29.99 here.

Road Torq from Eton

Posted: 06 Oct 2011 08:00 AM PDT

Eton is very good at making emergency products that are crank-powered, and the Road Torq is specifically designed for automobiles.

Have you ever had to change a tire at night? Not much fun, is it? The Road Torq won’t make the task any more fun, but it will make it easier, and safer. The Road Torq is a light with three retractable legs for easy storage that also give it the power to stand up on its built-in tripod.

The Road Torq has a 1.7 W LED flashlight with 90 lumens, and it is on a hinge so you can shine the light at some good angles. On the opposite site of the flashlight are 3 red LED flashing beacon lights, which will alert other drivers that you are at work.

All in all, I would recommend the Road Torq, specifically so you will never have to use it. Having car trouble in the middle of the night on a cold day just plain sucks, but what makes it worse is when you discover that your flashlight isn’t working. With the Road Torq, you can crank up the power as two minutes of turning will get you 15 minutes of power.

In other words, be prepared. Get yourself a Road Torq, put it in your glovebox, and pull it out when you really need it. You should be able to get the Road Torq for about $30.00 on the official Eton site.

Posted: 06 Oct 2011 06:00 AM PDT

If you are looking for a new desktop to replace your ageing one, then perhaps an all-in-one solution that is so in vogue these days might be right up your alley. We’re talking about the Dell Inspiron One 2320 desktop here, where it has been dubbed by Dell to be the “ultimate 'stay-connected' all-in-one desktop” which delivers the latest in entertainment and interactive experiences for your whole family.

It doesn’t matter if you’re fighting with the dog to prevent him from eating your homework, hence finishing it up on computer, or to keep track of household expenses and to prevent debt, the Dell Inspiron One 2320 is said to offer a little bit of something for everybody.

I must say that it looks pretty much like any other all-in-one machine out there, so the differentiating factor ought to be the kind of hardware that is implemented underneath the hood. We do know that this puppy will come in a choice of an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, optional discrete graphics, an integrated HD webcam to help you stay in touch with family and friends from afar in high clarity, as well as Wi-Fi support to live out the wireless lifestyle.

Not only that, with a 23″ WLED display at 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, you will be able to watch all your favorite videos and review your photos in greater clarity than ever before. Of course, just to stay ahead of the competition, Dell even threw in the option to include touchscreen capability. Installed memory stands at 6GB, but that can be further expanded to 8GB, while it ships with a standard 1TB hard drive with the option to double that amount if your budget and needs permit.

Other connectivity options include HDMI-in connection and an 8-in-1 memory card reader. Your eyes won’t be the only ones in for a treat, as your ears will also be able to appreciate immersive SRS audio (with optional JBL speakers), and if you want to, you can also throw in the optional built-in TV tuner.

If you’re interested in the Dell Inspiron One 2320, then you can pick one up from $949.99 onwards.

BluestSoft DiskArchiver OneTouch Home

Posted: 06 Oct 2011 05:30 AM PDT

Many a time, we are told to make a backup of all our work, but the daily (or weekly, depending on your backup schedule) discipline seems to escape us majority of the time. Well, we tell ourselves, “If only there was something that can perform those backups for us with minimal effort.” Come on now, if you value your hard work on the digital platform, surely you would take all the necessary precautions to ensure there is a copy somewhere? I suppose since you’re all busy folk, a gadget that takes out most of the guesswork is perfect.

Hence the relatively small BluestSoft DiskArchiver OneTouch Home being introduced, where this USB device shares somewhat similar dimensions with that of the iPhone – albeit carrying not the functionality of a portable media player cum communications device, but will be embedded with powerful backup software instead.

All you need to do is plug this device into the computer, press the One Touch Backup button (OTB), and you’re good to go – the software will run by itself to make a quick backup of the entire hard drive, but if you think that that is not required, then there is always the option of just backing up segments of the hard drive, including select files, folders and additional partitions.?I must say that the amount of storage can be rather disappointing, although for the average home user, 500GB and 1TB capacities might be good enough.

The DiskArchiver OneTouch Home is capable of making an image backup of the whole hard drive or partition with but the touch of a One Touch Button – now how much easier do you expect it to get? Voice commands? The backed up image will then be stashed away as a compressed archive file for future retrieval. Should your hard drive somehow fail one day, fret not – you are able to recover the complete conditions by restoring archive from DiskArchiver OneTouch Home, and this is done without having to go through the OS re-installation and update process, not to mention having to install each application all over again.

Each purchase of the DiskArchiver OneTouch Home will be accompanied by 5 PC licenses, where the DiskArchiver OneTouch Home is smart enough to identify each PC automatically while retrieving each PC’s settings as default values. The 500GB and 1TB models will retail for $169 and $259, respectively.

FINIS Tempo Trainer Pro

Posted: 05 Oct 2011 11:39 PM PDT

We have reported on the FINIS Tempo Trainer Pro before, and I got a chance to try it out. I wish I could try it out in the pool, but I don’t have one. Also, it is kind of cold out.

As we mentioned before, the FINIS Tempo Trainer Pro is for the serious swimmers, like those who are competing. I had no idea that swimmers need to have a “perfect pace” to sync their strokes in order to sink the competition.

The Tempo Trainer Pro is a waterproof timer made to beep like a metronome to help the swimmer find that perfect pace. It is made to be clipped to a swimmer’s goggles, and, as you can see here, it fits under a snug bathing cap. Yeah, this isn’t going to fall out anytime soon, but if it does, it will float right to the surface.

The FINIS Tempo Trainer Pro has three button functionality for three adjustable modes. Mode 1 is a single beep in strokes per second, Mode 2 is a triple beep in strokes per second, and Mode 3 is a single beep in strokes per minute.

This device is not just for swimmers. It is for bikers, runners, and any other activity that can be improved with a perfect pace. If this works for you, head to the FINIS web site and lay down $49.99.

RIP Steve Jobs

There are moments in life when words fail us, and today is one of those moments. Tim Cook, Apple CEO sums it up nicely for many of us in his email below.

Team,

I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

We are planning a celebration of Steve's extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com.

No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve's death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

Tim
