Apple’s New Campus mock-ups unveiled Posted: 16 Aug 2011 08:30 AM PDT
As you can see, it is huge and circular, and it would appear that the center is made to insure that nature is preserved. I admire this decision, as this could have been a solid circle and have more space inside. As it is, it has space for about 2.8 million square feet, which is good for 13,000 employees. It also has a corporate fitness center, 300,000 square feet research facilities, and a central plant. If all goes well, you should see this plant sometime by 2015. You’ll probably get to see inside it before or after that date if you are employed by Apple. I will imagine that the iPad 6 and iPhone 8 will be selling quite nicely by then. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple will be a world power by that time. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Apple revealed that all their ideas are actually stolen alien technology. At that point, the giant factory becomes a Super Stargate and the aliens reveal themselves. That, or the huge factory takes off and hovers over the city of San Francisco, Independence Day style. Get to Space via Balloon with the Bloon Posted: 16 Aug 2011 08:16 AM PDT
Virgin Galactic may be banking on expensive trips with space planes, but this is the first time that I have heard of traveling to space via balloon. This lighter-than-air spacecraft, the Bloon, will reach 22 miles (36 kilometers) into space. That is enough to see the curvature of the Earth, but not enough to float the passengers with zero gravity. Check out the video after the jump to see what it might look like. The balloon is the creation of company zero2infinity, and it only can stay in space for only a few minutes. From there, it lightly parachutes to the Earth, and you have a great story to tell. The idea of traveling above the atmosphere in a balloon is not new, as it was the first balloonists who were able to actually see that the Earth was round. Too bad we can’t travel to the moon on a balloon like in The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen. As it turns out, we might be seeing the Bloon ready to take off by the year 2015. The cost of the flight is pretty up there at $156,000 per seat, and I wonder who will pay for this type of flight. Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. How fast can it go? It’s top speed is 6.8 miles per hour, and that is on a flat, circular track. The speed is pretty good, and it is due to a “human-like weight distribution”. You can watch a video of it after the jump, and I can tell you that no special effects were used in the filming. I wouldn’t have minded if they had used a greenscreen to make the rod invisible. Man, I would love to get my Lego set out and try and replicate this bipedal robot. The reason the University of Michigan is working on a robot like this is because they want to develop a pair of robot legs to help the disabled walk again. They also want to create a robot that can handle all terrains, like the walking robots in Star Wars. This definitely looks like a scene from a science-fiction movie. I can’t help but think of the ED-209 robot from Robocop when I see this. I believe the ED-209 was much slower. I suppose that the advanced MABEL will be able to descend stairs better than the ED-209. Yes sir, this warming bin is capable of heating a couple of bath towels in just eight minutes, giving you access to spa-like comfort right smack in the middle of your own home. It will gently heat the towels to a soothing 135º F, while ensuring that the temperature is maintained for up to 20 minutes so that you will always have a nice, warm towel available right after your refreshing shower. This Personal Towel Warmer takes up very little space – like that of a small garbage can, in fact, where it will get to work the moment the lid is closed and you press the button. Towels aren’t the only thing it keeps warm, it will also heat up bathrobes, blankets, or other reasonably-sized clothing. Conference Calendar – The global conference and expo finder. At first glance, it does resemble a set of professional decks, sporting a high-quality setup that works in tandem with the iOS Core MIDI DJ software which in turn enables you to browse, cue, scratch and mix tracks together. Being small and highly portable, it doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out or have already reached the hallowed rank of “Grandmaster” – the Numark iDJ Live would still be a joy to use. With a simple system that has an extremely low learning curve with looks to match, you get a couple of large performance platters that deliver the necessary tactile feedback required for accurate scratching effects, and there is also the central mixer section which enables you to crossfade tracks alongside a host of other technical areas. NewYu Connected Monitor offers options in fitness regime Posted: 16 Aug 2011 05:00 AM PDT
The NewYu Connected Monitor will rely on an industry first – we’re talking about motion detection and advanced pattern recognition technology which is capable of detecting and identifying specific body movements, and since it is extremely tiny, you will be able to clip it just about anywhere on your torso or to a particular pocket. Just what the heck does the monitor do? For starters, it will track basic activities including walking and running, but is also smart enough to specifically recognize complex movements including biking, being on an elliptical and step machine. Heck, the particular genius of this device does not stop here – it will also be able to capture data for daily living tasks including (but not limited to) cooking, cleaning and shopping. At the end of the day, NewYu will help you obtain a far more accurate reading on the exact number of calories that you have burned depending on the kind of movement you were involved in during the day. The NewYu monitor will work hand-in-hand with the NewYu online dashboard, where it will deliver you with a home base for setting and tracking goals. There is also the free NewYu Android app that you can take advantage of, where users are able to synchronize data from their monitor to the dashboard in real-time over a Bluetooth connection, but if you prefer to take the hardwire route, you can always do so via a USB adapter. All it takes are just seconds to update the information which will subsequently be displayed in easy-to-understand charts. The NewYu Connected Monitor can be yours for $99.99, where it is tipped to arrive in markets this coming September. Might as well start off with next year’s fitness goals, today.
