Tabeo Tablet from Toys R Us

Posted: 17 Sep 2012 11:44 AM PDT

If you own a tablet and have children in your life I am willing to bet the two have met. Probably quite regularly. What would we do without movies or games or learning apps? I know I appreciate them. Yet there is always trepidation when handing over the pad to a kid. The nightmarish possibilities are frightening.

The retailer that knows kids better than others decided to help ease the trepidation. Last week Toys R Us announced their Tabeo Tablet, designed specifically for kids. The device, $149.99, combines the conveniences that kids and parents have become accustomed to on Mom or Dad's tablet with kid friendly elements. It boasts a 7" touch screen with Wi-Fi connectivity. The Tabeo runs on Android 4.0 OS (Ice Cream Sandwich) and contains 4GB of memory with micro SD slot, expandable up to 32GB. Fifty child-friendly apps come loaded on the unit including Angry Birds and Cut the Rug. 7000 more child-friendly, free apps await the user on the Tabeo app store. The unit has parental controls built right in which can be customized for up to 8 different users and can limit things like when the unit can be used. Tabeo also has controls to limit browsing topics or destinations. Built-in speaker, microphone and camera are included, features kids typically love on other tablets. And there is even a mini HDMI output to allow viewing content on a different screen. Best of all, the unit comes with a soft, removable bumper case for the inevitable drops and bumps. Orders are being taken as of today on the Toys R Us website, with units shipping October 21.

So while Mom and Dad put terms like iPad, Kindle and Galaxy on their wish lists this holiday season, bank on the Toys R Us Tabeo Tablet to make many kid's lists.

Etiquette Checker – Tells you the Cold Hard Truth

Posted: 17 Sep 2012 06:53 AM PDT

Gone are the days when I was out on the prowl, No more late night dance clubs, rock concerts or keg stands, I’m finally settled down and bored as… I mean, sooo loving my life. But that doesnt mean I cant enjoy finding some gadgets that might have been quite useful back in the day.

Checkout the Etiquette Checker, meant for those late night encounters that almost always require you to ask yourself these two very important questions, am I drunk? and how’s my breath? With two available settings, breath or alcohol, the Etiquette checker will rate your breath and determine your blood alcohol level, simply by selecting the desired mode and breathing into the device. How handy is that?

So your breath is ranked from good to bad utilizing a number system from 1-6, with 1 being delightfully fresh and a rating of 6 letting you know that before you do anything else, a date with a toothbrush and some paste may be in order. The alcohol setting measures your blood alcohol levels in 0.5 increments, which may not only be helpful in preventing you from driving while intoxicated, but also stop you from going home with a guy with blue hair, a pierced nose and a dragon tattooed on his forehead, no offense Frank, I had fun.

The Etiquette Checker is small enough to fit in a pocket or purse, comes with a backlit LCD screen, and has an auto off feature to save on battery life, and you can have one for yourself for around 80 bucks from japantrendshop.com. 80 bucks? Thats a small price to pay to save yourself from driving drunk… or Frank.

Furby: u-nye-loo-lay-doo?

Posted: 17 Sep 2012 06:51 AM PDT

Every year as the weather starts to turn cooler and the kids go back to school, I start to get a feel for the holiday presents I will need to get my hands on right away, for whatever reason smack in the middle of September, it all becomes crystal clear… time to dust off my credit card and grab one or two things that I know I probably wont be able to get my hands on if I wait!

Let me reintroduce you to Furby, a cool little critter you might remember from the late 90′s… Well, he’s back, and better than ever, with more expressive LCD eyes, a wider range of motions, and of course, its own iOS app. Furby responds to music or your voice, likes to be tickled or played with, and actually develops a personality based on the way you treat him.

You should know that Furby primarily speaks Furbish, but don’t worry, you can get some help with that, by downloading the free app that can give you a hand with translating, and the more you speak to your Furby, the more English he will eventually learn.

So if you think your child would enjoy a crazed, screaming little faux fur rodent-owl robot that will most certainly drive you 1000 miles past crazy – then Furby might be the perfect holiday gift! But you’d better get your hands on one quick, because they’re already sold out all over town. Available in 10 vibrant colors at amazon.com but remember to keep your eye on price and try not to spend much more than 54 bucks, if you end up waiting too long, don’t say I didn’t tell you so…

Voltage Cycles Sport electric bike announced

Posted: 17 Sep 2012 06:30 AM PDT

Voltage Cycles Sport is the company's (Voltage Cycles) first production electric bike ever to roll out, and I must say, it does look rather ordinary at first glance. That is not a bad thing though, so do not take my statement in the wrong way. For starters, the Sport will boast of classic American styling and engineering that will definitely appeal to the masses, especially the more patriotic ones. The design itself is not only nice to look at, but must be functional and practical enough to meet the demands of everyday transportation. Let us see what else the Voltage Cycles Sport has to offer in the extended post, shall we?

Marty Schlesinger, President of Voltage Cycles, said, “The Voltage Cycles Sport is for anyone who wants to integrate a healthy, environmentally friendly, and economical form of transportation into their lifestyle. Voltage Cycles represents the new road ahead for personal transportation, and we are looking to earn our place in the family garage.”

Integrated into the vintage Sport design would lie a modern electrical propulsion system which is capable of pushing the Sport to the leading edge of technological advancement, and Voltage Cycles hope that this will be able to deliver a "Wow!" factor that cannot be found elsewhere. The Sport in particular is said to be engineered to be tough, reliable, and easily serviced, sporting (pun not intended) a sleek steel frame that is manufactured to handle the added weight and stress put on it by the electrical propulsion system, while making use of industry standard bicycle components.

Components that are subject to normal wear include the tires and brake pads, and these will be readily available and easy to replace so you need not worry about running out spare parts or anything of the sort. As for its propulsion system, it will make use of the latest battery technology so that you can experience the power and range required to get you where you need to go without busting a huge hole in your wallet.

Expect the Sport to be fully juice in 4 hours using a standard 110V household outlet, where a fully charged bike can offer a range between 30 to 40 miles of powered riding. So, any takers?

Sound Bed helps you doze off with your favorite music

Posted: 17 Sep 2012 06:00 AM PDT

Some of us require complete silence before we retire for the night, so much so that even a pin drop can be heard. As for others, we do need to have some sort of background noise that could prove comforting, such as creaking of the wooden floor, the slow turning fan that emits that squeaky sound with each revolution of its blades on the ceiling, the sound of crickets and their all night symphony, or simply your favorite recording artist belting out his/her/their hit tunes over a speaker. If you fall under the last mentioned category, then Time4sleep's effort with the Sound Bed certainly sounds like a winner in our books. We shall take a closer look at what the Sound Bed is able to offer to sleepers who want some background music as they grab some shuteye.

Time4sleep's new and innovative bed frame will not only make sure you get a peaceful night's sleep, but it also doubles up as a private sound system to boot. Called the Sound Bed, it will merge modern design alongside technology in order to deliver an original and comfortable music centre. This particular idea can be said to be inspired by the rise in the demand for TV beds, so Time4sleep figured out that there is probably a market for music lovers.

The Sound Bed range will come in Single, Double and King Size form factors, and it works great whether you are an adult or a little kid. Each Sound Bed comes finished in stone white bonded leather, ensuring that this particularly neutral color is able to be compatible with all kinds of décor and tastes.

Jonathan Warren, Time4sleep owner said "This bed frame allows anyone to have their own private music station. Adaptable for any MP3 player, including iPods, iPhones and iPads – the Sound Bed makes it easy to just plug in and play!"

All the relevant controls and speakers themselves are located on a control panel on the side of the headboard, where it comprises of 2 speakers and a sub-woofer (which is located at the bottom if the headboard) for that added thump of bass.

Giant Monopoly Game

Posted: 17 Sep 2012 05:30 AM PDT

One thing that is timeless about the game of Monopoly is this – greed is still an inherent trait in all of us, where we want more and more in our lives, so much so that owning a monopoly of things is always a good thing as long as we are the owners. Having said that, you might want to relive those classic Monopoly moments of your youth with your own kids this time around, but instead of playing on a usual sized board, how about treating them to something special? I am referring to the $149.95 Giant Monopoly Game that will include playing pieces that are 150% their normal size, accompanied by an oversized board to boot.

The board itself is built with solid wood stained and varnished for a subdued gloss finish befitting wealthy industrialists, measuring 30″ x 30″ in size while including a 20″ x 20″ recessed well lined with smooth green felt so that you can place the 3″ x 5″ Chance and Community Chest cards within. The well is also perfect for rolling the game’s 1″ cu. dice. The entire raised playing surface tips the scales at 12 lbs., so flipping over this board when you lose is not a good idea as someone is gonna get a hurt real bad if the board flies off in the wrong direction.
