Joby unveils GorillaMobile Ori and GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2

Posted: 10 Jun 2011 09:19 AM PDT

Joby wants to outfit your spanking new iPad 2 tablet with a couple more accessories for those who want to maximize the use of the iPad 2, including it’s camera. The two accessories in question are the GorillaMobile Ori and GorillaMobile Yogi, where they will continue where the original Ori and Yogi left off in January earlier this year. These two new products are the latest update made to the GorillaMobile range, where the Verizon and AT&T-compatible GorillaMobile for iPhone 4 was the first of its kind.

Expect the iPad 2′s camera to come unshackled with the Ori and Yogi, as both of them will enable iPad 2 owners to take advantage of the tablet’s new features with steady, hands-free photographs while experiencing a more comfortable, flattering Face Time experience that will leave you looking more flattered than you actually are, eyebags and all.

The GorillaMobile Ori for iPad 2 was specially constructed for the power iPad 2 users, where it will deliver sleek ergonomic positioning all in a protective case and stand. Those who love the folding art of origami would recognize its influence on the design, where the GorillaMobile Ori was specially engineered from a superlight German-made aluminum/polypropylene composite that is also used in high-performance cars. This next-generation material will enable the Ori to be folded into numerous positions, offering lightweight, rigid stability which can be stashed away for safekeeping in a jiffy without compromising its structural integrity.

As for those who prefer to use their new tablet to read e-books or watch videos in a lazy manner (i.e., on their bed or couch), the GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2 will fulfill this role as it can stretch and wrap into the perfect position. Boasting limber and sturdy legs, the GorillaMobile Yogi can be twisted and bent to stabilize the iPad on uneven surfaces, or perhaps find a pole in the kitchen to wrap itself around. With a polycarbonate case that has a rubber bumper, you can be sure your iPad will be protected from shocks and unexpected knocks.

The GorillaMobile Ori for iPad 2 and GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2 will retail for $69.95 and $39.95, respectively.

Under the JDome at E3 2011

Posted: 10 Jun 2011 08:00 AM PDT

While at E3, there was a huge area devoted to an organization known as Pro Vs. GI Joe. According to their official website: “Pro vs. GI Joe sets up real-time video game competitions between professional athletes, musicians, celebrities, high-ranking military officials & politicians in the states and troops stationed overseas via online gaming”.

In other words, it gives the chance for bigwigs to play video games with the everyday soldier. The purpose of their E3 booth was to get more donations, but at display was the jDome. For those who aren’t aware, the jDome is a cloth hemisphere designed to be a very immersive type of gaming screen. I have reported on it before, but I finally got a chance to try it out.

Standing before it really makes me feel like I am actually there. It is good for first person shooters, but without my feet moving, the illusion felt incomplete. Perhaps I could have a treadmill under my feet, but I’m guessing I would lose my balance. Apparently, the jDome helps the military train. and they play a lot of Call of Duty, which doesn’t surprise me.

Was the jDome the most immersive thing that I saw at E3? Actually, no. As far as sound was concerned, that award goes to the KOR-FX. As for vision, you’ll have to read about Replicating Reality. If you want to find out more about the jDome, read up on the official site here.

Jaybird and their JF3 Freedom Bluetooth Buds

Posted: 10 Jun 2011 06:00 AM PDT

Free as a bird – or so that is what most people would like to be. Well, we do know that when it comes to headphones and earbuds, a wired connection tends to end up in a tangled mess unless you have a cable management system of sorts. Jaybird knows this, and hence has decided to roll out their JF3 Freedom Bluetooth Buds. With Bluetooth thrown into the mix, you are more or less guaranteed that wires are a thing of the past with this pair of buds, just make sure that there is enough battery life left inside them before you rock out.

Key features of the JF3 Freedom Bluetooth Buds include its (obviously) wireless connectivity, a secure fit that will cater for sports enthusiasts as well as those who live an active lifestyle courtesy of its proprietary honey comb design ear cushions, superior sound performance that has been tuned in a way so that the listener will not suffer from any fatigue, while a sweat proof design makes it one of the more hygienic solutions around – with a Lifetime Warranty Against Sweat backing it up, yo!

Without any wires, you are more or less free to do just what you want, but of course, we won’t advise bringing this pair down with you when you go snorkeling or scuba diving since it isn’t that rugged. The new hexagon design ear cushions are touted to deliver superb comfort and a secure fit for sports, where its honey comb center offers a balanced amount of resistance against the back bowl of the ear. With three sizes to choose from, you’re spoilt for choice and it ought to fit most of the general populace.

The JF3 Freedom Bluetooth Buds has been out since April, but now JayBird decided to sweeten the deal by offering new secure fit silicon sports ear cushions. You can pick up the new and enhanced version for $99 with free shipping thrown into the mix.

Robomower for the modern caveman

Posted: 10 Jun 2011 05:30 AM PDT

Isn’t the modern caveman an oxymoron of sorts? That’s what we thought, but we realized that it also isn’t too far from the truth, either. After all, how many guys you know prefer to stay cooped up in their rooms, playing video games and munching on pizza and drinking beer all day long? Perhaps the married act differently, but for many teens as well as college students (and single yuppies), they have gone through such a phase in their lives before.

Mowing the lawn? That’s a chore that ought to be done by someone else, but if you don’t feel like interacting with more human beings, then there is the Robomower which will come in a variety of models, and all of them do their job well within their scope. All you need to do is press “GO”, and you can get back to your room, enjoying your newly purchased video game. We wonder whether this Robomower will be able to mow down zombies in case of an undead invasion…

Depending on the model, you will need to fork out anywhere from $1,999.99 to $2,799.99 for the Robomower, and it comes with a user controlled theft protection alarm system for added safety for your investment, especially if you don’t have a guard dog to help you out. Just to be on the safe side, the Robomower sports a tilt sensor safety feature that will stop rotating blades the moment the Robomow tilts.

My wrap-up of E3 2011

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 11:44 PM PDT

Well, as another E3 has wrapped up, it is about time to figure out what I got out of it. I’ll try to give you some of the highlights. E3 at the LA Convention Center is divided into two areas, South and West. I will start with the South:

As you come into the doors, you are hit with Electronic Arts (EA). In all honesty, I have dealt with EA before, and they are so big that if you ever get an appointment with them, you probably won’t be on their appointment list when you show up on time. That has been the case with me in the past, but for now, I just checked out their latest like Mass Effect 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Behind them was an even bigger giant, Microsoft. They had places to test out their new Kinect games. It looked like what they had last year, down to the specially made decals on the Convention Center Bathroom walls. Kind of a repeat for them this year, actually. I guess if you don’t have an Xbox 360 2, you don’t have much to report on.

Disney Interactive was on board with its latest, which included Cars 2, Disneyland, (name). And Phineas and Ferb:Across the 2nd Dimension. By the way, the creators/producers of Phineas and Ferb, Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh stopped by. I waited in line to see them, but it was a bit too long for me. I decided to come by later, and got to shake Swampy’s hand. Not exactly the highlight of the trip, but still worth it.

In the corner was Activition, and they had huge screens displaying their games. They looked like glasses-free 3D too. They are the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, and other games without colons in them.

It seems like a lot of companies had huge screens. Square Enix, for example, showed off Final Fantasy XIII-2, Deus Ex:Human Revolution, and a new Tomb Raider, this one is a prequel.

On Live was also there, and they were celebrating their one hundredth game on their platform. They have grown a lot in the past year.

Now on to the West Hall, after the jump.

In front is Capcom with Street Fighter X Tekken, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.

Sony Online had DC Universe and more. Speaking of Sony, both Nintendo and Sony had two giant boths in this area, right across from each other. Each one had a line around it to see the latest. With Sony, it was the Vita, and with Nintendo, the Wii U. I didn’t wait in either of those lines.

I am amazed at how many booths were closed off, and I couldn’t get in, even though I flashed my Media Badge. Man, why are you even here. This happened when I wanted to get a peak at Bioshock Infinite. Bethesda was also by appointment only.

Also, there was a shameless amount of “Booth Babes”. It seems like every company always has at least one or two ladies dressed in skimpy attire, and always willing to get a picture with the gamers. The most shameless was at THQ by the uDraw. There was one with a low top showing a lot of cleavage, and the top read “Now Available”. Precisely what am I supposed to infer from that?

Anyway, I’m glad to be back.
