See Your Toast

Sincere apologies to Coolest Gadgets readers. This toaster has been out for awhile and we failed to show you how cool it is! I love toast. I hate burnt toast. It seems like the toaster does fine one day and changes the next. Or someone adjusts the settings and I don't notice. Before you know it you have the smoke detector beeping, charred bread and you are late for work.

For those (freaks like me!) who like to be in total control of the toasting experience just get a Vision Toaster by Magimix. Seriously, how easy is this? You can watch your toast not burn! Like most toasters you still have space and heating for 4 slices and preprogrammed modes for bagels, toast, reheat and defrost. Yep, slots are extra-wide for thicker stuff. Choose from red, white or black. And this toaster is rated for 30,000 uses – that is 82 years if you use it daily. Sure there may have been concept pieces like it in the past. But this is readily available at Williams Sonoma in the US for $199.95, or at Amazon.co.uk for £159.95. So ease the pain of burnt toast. Get toast the way you want to see it…literally.

Hands Free Navigation

Garmin has almost become a noun on its own – like Xerox or Kleenex. Everyone knows what they do. Rightfully so, they are good at it! Their car and handheld devices save many of us from going the wrong direction. But what about those of us that want to have hands free while hiking or doing anything outdoors? Garmin has got a solution for that too.

Meet the Garmin fēnix™ – the perfect outdoor GPS watch. Garmin describes it as a GPS navigator + ABC (Altimeter, Barometer & Compass). So yes, you get true Garmin navigation on your wrist including a GPS track log, ability to mark points like where you parked and ability to plan your trip and program it into the device using their BaseCamp™ program. What makes it unique is that fēnix is the first unit of its kind to incorporate this type of reliable Garmin GPS technology with ABC. The “a” (altimeter) will help you track elevation on ascent, decent or anytime. The “b” (barometer) shows you short term changes in the pressure – better to evaluate weather conditions. And the 3 axis “c” (compass obviously helps guide you to your destination.  Also included is a temperature sensor that is uniquely unaffected by body temperature. Like other Garmin performance watches you have lap and autolap functions and it can be synced with Garmin's heart rate monitor. fēnix is available for $399.99 on Amazon.com among other places. So if you are a trail trekker, skiier, camper, geocacher or any outdoor fanatic the Garmin fēnix wants to be your wrist companion to get you out and back safely.

All your SNES games belong to us

It is always good to make sure that everyone has a hobby – simply because you love hobbies, and when you do something that you love, it does not feel as though you are "working" on it, but rather, time flies really fast while you are at it. I guess the best kind of careers to be involved in would be one that has your hobby worked right in, making money out of what piques your interest. Some folks collect books, others stamps, and while others look for rare coins from around the world. Kings of yore collected gold and wives, and the modern day rich man might see that starting a car collection is something worth looking into. How about collecting video games? That does sound rather nerdish, but it seems that an extremely well known collector in the video game community is putting up his SNES collection for sale – with a cool $20,000 asking price to boot!

Of course, he is open to other offers, and I am quite sure that he will be more than pleased as punch to accept anything higher. Heck, if I were him, I would have put it up for auction with $20,000 as the opening bid. The seller is known as "byuu", and if he sounds familiar to you, that is because he is the brains behind the popular bsnes emulator. In an effort to ensure that every single ROM made available for the bsnes emulator will run perfectly, he has amassed the entire SNES game collection, taking three years to do so while delivering spot on accuracy for each cover scan. Selling off this collection after his task is complete is one way of recouping some of his losses.

Bear in mind that you would be getting every single licensed SNES game, which does not include unlicensed and promotional games. byuu figured out that his effort required around 2,000 hours of buying, scanning, and dumping the games, while taking another 60 hours to clean each one of the cartridges. The money that he recoups is meant to accumulate every single European and Japanese SNES game for a similar purpose, now is that dedication or what?

Harris Bernstein, vice president of sales and marketing for iWALK, said, "Portable electronics are an important part of our daily lives, but added functionality and mobility means increased concerns about battery life. Mini Hozuki LED Candle Lantern

I know that having portable, modern day lighting is nothing new, but when you think about it, an old school item can still be rethought and shaped to resemble, or usher in the future. Case in point, the humble lantern. We have seen its evolution in the past, where from being powered by gas or oil, here we are with a LED powered version. Enter the $39.99 Mini Hozuki LED Candle Lantern, which is actually a tiny, highly portable backpacking lantern that is also durable, shining light whenever and wherever you need it.

With multiple lighting modes that will include a couple of candle modes, the Mini Hozuki LED Candle Lantern boasts of a magnetic tail that enables it to wrap around poles and loops, ensuring that your precious Mini Hozuki remains in place right where you need it, letting you concentrate on other more important matters – such as fending off a group of goblins. Still, sometimes I believe that the traditional torch would work much better, since some creatures can only be scared by fire and heat. Powered by a trio of AAA batteries, this portable LED lantern can last up to 40 hours in High Mode.

Track Your Stuff (and More!)

Don't you love getting old? Hair begins to gray or fall out, or both. You walk into a room and forget why. You lose your stuff – mind included on some days. OK, maybe not all of it is old age. Our busy society means little nuggets of information, previously thought of as important, may slip our minds. After all, you can eventually find the remote control or check outside to see if the dog was let out. But man, it would be nice to have a more reliable tool to help with these little quandaries or short term memory things.

SSI America, designers and makers of electronic automotive technology, want to prevent us from losing our minds. They far exceeded their goal on indiegogo and are going into production with Stick-N-Find – a Bluetooth low energy based locator sticker. Seriously, this falls into the 'its about time' category. Stick-N-Find is a US quarter sized electronic gadget. Stick it to anything you choose. Then download the app for iOS (iPhone 4S, 5; New iPad, Mini or Touch) or Android (in development, but will happen). Via Bluetooth the "stickers" are then tracked on the app up to 100 feet. Flip on the radar to see where your lost device is. Tap on the icon and enable the Stick-N-Find to beep or blink. The uses are really limitless. Stick them to your keys, pets, phones, tablets, headphones, remote controls, pets – anything you have a tendency to misplace!

That's not all Stick-N-Find can do either. The Virtual Leash enables you to set an alert for a specific distance. When a Stick-N-Find gets beyond your distance you receive a message. Say you take the dog to the park but don't want him going too far. Your phone will tell you when Fido strays. Conversely, another fun feature reverses the tether. When set up, the Find It function tells Stick-N-Find to beep or flash when in a certain range of the phone. Tasks like finding your luggage on the airport carousel become a no brainer! Recently announced – after achieving funding goal – is a new app too. StickNFind Task Launcher will now be able to control phone settings. Maybe you want your ringer to turn off when you go into your bedroom. Or maybe you want a specific song to play when you get into the car. No problem. StickNFind Task Launcher enables app and command control within the phone when in range of a “sticker.”

Now for more on the specs. The watch-type battery lasts for about a year and can be easily replaced. And the adhesive, though strong, enables you to move Stick-N-Find. The campaign does not close until mid-January on indiegogo. Get in on a two-pack Stick-N-Find for just $35 – a deal as retail for a two-pack is expected at $49.95. Larger options are available for bigger homes or offices too and investors receive theirs in March. So let your brain rest or worry about other stuff. Let Stick-N-Find remind you where things are in your life.

Cordless Prelit Pop Up Christmas Tree

So, the season of joy and greetings are here again, and it is time to revel in the spirit of Yuletide while reflecting on the year which has gone by, not to mention the promise of the year to come. You might want to get started in decorating your home with full of Christmas items, ranging from boxed presents to lights and of course, the staple in every living room – the Christmas tree itself. The thing is, since we already live in a wireless age (and have been making attempts to make the move to a paperless society), why not make sure the Christmas tree itself is "wireless"? That's what you get with the $399.95 Cordless Prelit Pop Up Christmas Tree.

This battery-powered prelit tree will be able to make its appearance at just about anywhere you choose to place it, and you will end up with a fully decorated Christmas tree. It is a Hammacher Schlemmer exclusive, and the works – branches, lights, and decorations are all contained on the unit’s flexible, coil spring-shaped wire frame which will telescope itself when set up on the included pole and stand for an instant set up. Forget about wrestling with strings of lights that tend to get all tangled out each time you take them out of the box, as the tree itself comes pre-strung with LED lights to deliver a warm holiday glow. Half a dozen D batteries are said to illuminate the lights for up to 180 hours.
