ChinaVasion’s Magnetic Suspension Device Display

Posted: 27 May 2010 03:43 PM PDT

Just to let you know, this isn’t a soda vending machine at Hogwarts. I’m not certain what flavor Harry and his friends would drink, perhaps butterbeer or pumpkin juice.

This is an ordinary device from Chinavasion that enables an ordinary can of soda to float in the air. There is no magic involved, just a special lid or ring to attach to the top of the can. All you need to do is plug in the device, and the magnet does all the work.

Oooo, it certainly looks impressive. Believe it or not, it will work with bottles too. Actually, I don’t believe it, because if that is an ordinary 12 ounce can, it barely fits in the ring. Do you expect to get a 16 ounce long-neck in there? I think that you would need some sort of oval-shaped device for that.

I wonder if that magnet lid would work on other things, like a picture? Perhaps you could turn this thing into a picture frame. As a soda holder, I would imagine that you had better drink the beverage within quickly, or it will get really warm.

Anyway, this is available at the Chinavasion site for about $55. You will have to ask yourself if it is worth it for this special effect that looks like it would get real old, real fast.

iPhone Appstand with color inserts

Posted: 27 May 2010 03:42 PM PDT

If you haven’t quite been happy with the iPhone stands that are out, Think Geek has a new one that offers a whole lot more versatility.  Instead of having a plain black frame and nothing more, this one has interchangeable inserts that you can swap out as the mood strikes you.

The colors go from gray onto blue, pink and even bright green, as well as a few others mixed in there.  The frame has a black satin finish to give it a nice shine.  Being just a simple frame you can easily tilt it one way or the other to get the right viewing point.  There’s also a clip on the back to hang onto the excess cord when needed.  You can purchase it from Think Geek with all of the inserts included for $24.99.

Rock Band 3 could use a little keytar

Posted: 27 May 2010 03:21 PM PDT

Nothing I like more than a game of Rock Band. I’ve been playing Rock Band 2 with my family for quite a while, and it doesn’t shock me at all that Rock Band 3 is coming this holiday.

Of course, I don’t see how it could be any different. I mean, look at the logo. There’s the Bass, Drum, Guitar, Mic, and….whoa….is that a keyboard?

Yes, it is, and there are many rumors going around about the addition of a piano, harpsichord, pipe organ, or whatever keyboard instrument will be added to Rock Band 3, but it most are hinting to a keytar.

That’s right, the keytar, the pivotal music instrument of the eighties, is here. I can’t help but wonder if the player will hit several keys, or just a few. I think we all know that, with the exception of the mic, usually the instrument is limited to five frets hit at any given time.

Something tells me that the company will probably unveil what particular instrument it will be at E3 Expo in Los Angeles on June 15-17. I plan to be there, and I can’t wait to see if those old grammar school piano lessons will help me play the keytar, or whatever instrument it will be.

Spatial Interaction faucet is better than any touch-control faucet, anyday

Posted: 27 May 2010 03:03 PM PDT

I cannot stand this ad for these Delta Touch faucets. I have a video of it after the jump so you can see it for yourself. I’d like to think that I am not OCD, but the dirty hands in the commercial are a visual kryptonite. The song is also terrible, and I’m told that the music is by the Count on Sesame Street.

Still, I can’t deny that there are times in which my hands are so dirty that I have wanted to simply touch the spigot in order to turn on the water. Mostly it is because I don’t want to soil the on and off knobs. I suppose the spigot is going to get soiled with these Delta touch faucets.

This particular design is Spatial Interaction, designed by Jasper Dekker. Instead of a touch, control of the faucet is obtained by the wave of the hand. I believe that the wave not only turns it on, but is good for controlling the flow rate, as well as the temperature.

Don’t ask me what sort of waves would be necessary for that, as I really don’t want to be conducting a symphony orchestra every time that I want to wash my hands.

True Utility Cashstash Cash Capsule

Posted: 27 May 2010 02:33 PM PDT

Hiding your cash is a difficult, but sometimes important thing while you’re out and about.  Usually there are only so many places you can hide it and hiding it in your sock is somewhat obvious.  This tiny capsule is small enough that it’s doubtful anyone would notice it.  However, if you tend to lose your keys, maybe you should think of a different way to stash your dough.

This key ring can be attached to your clothing or to just a normal keyring.  To use it just wind up your paper cash and put it inside the capsule.  The cap itself screws on tightly.  Of course it can only hold one bill, so you’d better make it a good one.  You can purchase the waterproof aluminum capsule for $3.24 through Amazon.

USB Flash Drive Cufflinks

Posted: 27 May 2010 01:25 PM PDT

Having your data with you at all times has become an essential thing.  We want absolutely everything to be mobile and with us at all times.  Which makes these flash drive cufflinks only the obvious next step.  This pair of USB drives will let you keep all of your documents directly on your wrist.  Plus you can keep two different sets, since you’ll have a drive on each wrist.

It will give you a total of 4GB worth of space to fill up, there’s 2GB on each of the drives.  You can even have the shiny drive engraved.  Should you not like the shiny look you can also pick up gunmetal and gold finishes.  They are small enough that it’s unlikely anyone will notice them.  You can purchase the set for $195.
