Dymo Rhino 101 isn’t much, but it is convenient Posted: 30 Dec 2009 04:17 PM PST It’s been a while since we reviewed the Dymo LabelWriter 450 Twin Turbo, with its awesome ability to print labels without any ink. I would have to say that the Dymo Rhino 101 is probably its poor cousin. Of course, there really isn’t anything technical with the Rhino 101, really. It doesn’t have a keyboard, or anything to type out individual letters. In fact, it really is just a glorified roll of white tape. Because of this, my source really bad-mouthed this product, going so far to deem it unnecessary. I would agree that you could probably do the same thing with some white tape and a Sharpie, but the Rhino 101 gives you something that you need for that: a flat surface. That’s right, if you just had white tape and a Sharpie marker, than you would have to tear the tape, stick the tape, and hope that whatever you stuck it on would be flat enough for you to write on it. The Rhino 101 provides that flat surface, so you can just write what you want in the space provided, tear off, and stick it to anything, even carpet. Yeah, that flat surface might not be much, but hey, I think it makes a world of difference. Besides, the Dymo Rhino is only $20.00. Surely this convenience is affordable at that price. WiiWaa: Clearly the most fun you can have with the Wii and a stuffed toy Posted: 30 Dec 2009 04:00 PM PST If you look at the WiiWaa, you might just see a freaky looking stuffed toy with a Wiimote shoved down its throat. However, you should not judge it too harshly, because I personally believe that the WiiWaa is poised to start a new revolution in interactive gaming for the pre-tween crowd. As you can see from the video, a whole world of possibilities is available to the one who force-feeds this little monster a motion-controller. When the youngster wiggles the WiiWaa to make him walk, it actually makes the video game character walk in the game. If little junior wiggles the WiiWaa slowly, then it’s like its sneaking up on someone, perfect when approaching sleeping giants. Uh-oh, the giant is starting to wake up! Little junior better make the WiiWaa duck. I realize that it sounds like I’m being sarcastic about this thing, but in all honesty, this WiiWaa is a game that I, as an adult, would love to play. Especially when it has that double-bungee cord action going on. I’m sure my kids would be begging for me to stop playing, and I will look down on them and answer “no”. Whoa, I’m starting to sound like Rorschach from Watchmen there. Unfortunately, there is no word when this WiiWaa will actually hit the market. I could easily see it as the Zhou-Zhou pet for next year’s Christmas season. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. New Year’s Eve on Times Square is Pedal Powered Posted: 30 Dec 2009 03:42 PM PST If you are in New York for the big celebration on New Year’s Eve, maybe you want to brave the crowds and traffic and be there when the giant ball drops and the big “2010″ numbers light up. I’m sure all of you realize that energy isn’t free, and that the power for those big numbers costs a whole lot. However, if they are powered by a renewable energy resource, I feel lot less guilty celebrating during Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve. Fortunately, Duracell is prepared for this need for energy as the company has provided “Power Rovers”, stationary bikes at Times Square that allow New Yorkers and New York tourists to generate the power necessary for the New Years celebration. This is actually the second year in a row that the Power Rovers have been used, but they are clearly needed if we are going to start off this new decade with our best green foot forward. Of course, I’m sure that the power for the New Year’s celebration in New York is nothing compared to the energy consumed by the entire city of New York, Las Vegas, or any other big city on an average night. Maybe those Power Rovers should be stationed at every big city. I wonder how many people would donate their time to pedal on them then. Posted: 30 Dec 2009 03:00 PM PST If you have USB devices coming out of your ears, then you might need a hub to help you out with that. This hub manages to keep a full 24 ports available for you to jam your USB related items into. For the average person you might have to get extremely creative in order to fill up all of those ports. However, I’m sure there are others out there that are fully capable of finding a use for a hub of this size. The hub comes in only the color sequence seen here. It keeps things pretty basic, it doesn’t have any flashing lights or come in a silly shape. Instead it just makes sure that you’ll never have to buy another hub again. Just plug it into your computer and it’ll be ready to go. You can purchase it for $69.99 from USB Fever. That is a slightly steep price, but considering all of the ports built into it, it may be worth the price. Source: TechFresh Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Posted: 30 Dec 2009 01:58 PM PST Those of you that enjoy your Stanley tools might not mind that this watch is incredibly bulky. It’s said to have some convenient perks to it. One of which being that they managed to fit a small flashlight on the watch. Which means this is either a really big watch or a really tiny flashlight holder. It just depends on your outlook. This Stanley branded wristband also comes with a miniature toolbox container to keep the watch within. The watch itself has a backlight to make it possible to see the time in all conditions. It also has a timer and an alarm. The small torch is attached to the top part of the watch and will make it possible to see whatever it is you happen to be working on. You can purchase the Stanley LED Torch Watch for $58 from Watch Brando. Although this probably would be a ridiculous watch to wear on a regular basis, it would be helpful for certain situations. Posted: 30 Dec 2009 10:12 AM PST Teaching your children about technology is always fun. Especially since a lot of the time you end up learning things you didn’t know either. Well this is one way to teach your kids about the possibility of having human powered electronics. It demonstrates that power and in a much more interesting way than just reading about it in a book. With this they can make the bulb shine brightly all with their own static electricity. Just drag your feet across the carpet as you hold onto one of the wires of the bulb. Then you can see it glow. If you do it in a fully dark room it’d be easier to see the small bulb light up. Your body’s static electricity can reach more than 10,000 volts, which makes it possible to light up this neon bulb. To purchase the bulb it’ll only cost you $4.95, making it an affordable demonstration of static electricity. Source: RGS Check out the Coolest Gadgets 2008 Gift Guides, Christmas shopping made easy. Posted: 30 Dec 2009 09:39 AM PST Eurotech is one of the leading supplier of embedded technologies, products, and systems, and the company has just announced the launch of Catalyst LP, which in essence is a compact, low-power embedded system that is powered by the latest Intel Atom processors N450 (Pine Trail), D410 and D510. This is one of the newer products from the highly popular Eurotech Catalyst family of computer on modules, where one will be able to eke out high-performance graphics for applications that require high-end 2-D and 3-D visualization with high-resolution graphics capabilities, where among them include digital signage. Apart from that, high bandwidth I/O capability such as PCIe, and data storage interfaces like SATA place the Catalyst LP under the enviable position of being ideal for applications that require extensive data retrieval and processing, especially for those involved under the industrial, medical, gaming and human-machine interface umbrellas. At first glance, most of us would probably be surprised at the relatively small size of the Catalyst LP system which comes with a compact 67×100mm form factor, where it is capable of leveraging the full price/performance benefits of the Intel Atom processor-based platform. Since it boasts a common footprint, the Catalyst LP system can be scaled easily, enabling existing Catalyst Module customers to migrate to the new Intel Atom processors N450, D410, or D510 without breaking a sweat. Some of the other features available on Eurotech’s Catalyst LP include :-

Garmin Oregon 450t and 450 touchscreen unveiled Posted: 30 Dec 2009 04:00 AM PST
Key upgrades made to the Oregon 450t and Oregon 450 include user-selectable dashboards, enhanced track navigation, high-speed USB that makes it much faster to transfer maps to and from your computer, photo navigation capability and the 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass which is capable of showing which direction you are heading towards even when standing still – and this happens without having to hold it level. New dashboards introduced offer users the ability to customize the appearance of various pages on your Oregon, and among them include the geocaching, compass, stopwatch and elevation functions. Chances are if you fall under the hikers, cyclists and trail runners category, the enhanced track navigation will prove especially useful, as it prevents you from curling up under a rock and waiting for someone to rescue you should you get lost. A couple of AA batteries are able to offer up to 16 hours of battery life on both models. Each of them will feature a high-sensitivity GPS receiver with HotFix, where it is capable of automatically calculating and storing critical satellite information, so that such information can be pulled and used in the future to calculate a position in a jiffy. Other features include 850MB internal memory and a microSD memory card slot that is good for holding photos and optional map data.
