Remote Controlled Football Boots

Posted: 26 Aug 2010 04:00 PM PDT

Whether you call it soccer or football, this is one strange way to burn up some time.  You can’t help but love the occasional remote control gadget, but this is probably the strangest I’ve seen.  Instead of knocking in those balls with mini players, it uses oversized shoes.  I guess either way it’ll do the trick and keep you occupied for a couple of hours.

The kit comes with 2 boots for some one on one action, as well as the necessary remote controls and a couple of nets.  The shoes have 4 hidden wheels that will allow for them to zoom across the floor.  To keep them running they’ll need 2 AA batteries, that you can purchase along with the set.  Of course along with all of the rest of the gear there is a ball to knock around between the two boots.  You can purchase the set for £ 24.95 or about $38 through Pro Idee.

DIY Dinosaur Light Kits

Posted: 26 Aug 2010 03:43 PM PDT

Whether you have a kid that loves dinosaurs or you yourself have a child-like love for them, these dinosaurs would make for a neat decoration.  Plus, it would give you a project for a rainy day.  These white lamps may not offer a whole lot of task lighting, but they will make any room look a whole lot more interesting.  Nothing makes a room feel more welcoming than a miniature glowing dinosaur in a corner.

There are several dinosaurs to choose between, most are made to just sit on your desk, all except for two of them.  Out of those other two is one that sits on the floor and stands 38 inches tall, while the other one hangs from the ceiling.  They’re all white and all come as a kit that you make on your own.  If you’re not a huge fan of the light, the light can always be removed leaving you with just a dinosaur figurine.  You can purchase the big T-Rex for $56 while the rest go for $24.90 through Gadget Brando.

Babyoom adapts as your baby grows

Posted: 26 Aug 2010 02:09 PM PDT

Buying items for babies is not only expensive, but in some ways feels absolutely pointless.  It’s great for the baby while it’s an infant, but they only stay that small for a very brief amount of time.  Then you’re stuck shopping for toddler accessories and after that it’s the preschool stage.  It would be far nicer if that small fortune you spent in the beginning actually lasted a little while.  Thankfully, some companies have started to create items that will adapt with the changes your child goes through.  One adaptable design is the Babyoom.

The babybuggy will work up until the child turns three and doubles as a car seat.  Then once they’re a bit too big for the buggy it transforms into a tricycle, which the child will be able to enjoy for several years.  After they’ve grown tired of that it turns into a shopping cart.  I know, it’s a slightly strange thing for it to turn into in the end.  In my part of the world stores have plenty of carts available on site, but I haven’t been everywhere, so maybe there’s an area where people bring their own shopping carts.  That or it could just be you want a shopping cart that is actually sanitary.

This $279.99 device might sound rather pricey, but think about the peace of mind that it affords you – at least up to a certain degree, of course. This is a pickproof protection for your humble abode, where it is capable of withstanding a slew of picking attempts from unsavory characters. If you happen to live in a house where other denizens within have a penchant of forgetting their house keys, no worries, equip them with a passcode instead. Tag Keys which are also an alternative to gain entry makes life easier, and can be deleted from the system in a jiffy and rendered useless if one is lost or stolen. Not only that, the auto-lock function will also help out those who are prone to forgetfulness, and can be deactivated as well just in case one actually forgets the passcode as well as their keys. You can install it on just about any standard door with a simple Phillips screwdriver, so no worries about tearing out a new hole in the wall just for wiring.

Gmail now lets you make phone calls

Posted: 25 Aug 2010 06:19 PM PDT

The next time someone tells you that he/she is going to give you a call from their Gmail, try not to look as though they escaped from a nearby mental asylum. After all, it always remains to your advantage to be as cool as a cucumber regardless of the situation that unfurls, and to ask questions if you aren’t sure so as not to assume. This is where being knowledgeable comes in handy, and if you were to take this post into heart, it might just save you from future social faux pas situations. Google has just announced that they will allow you to make phone calls through Gmail – yes, something that we never really thought of was possible until today. No longer do you need to have two parties sitting in front of their computers to dial one another – why not just call the other person using your Gmail account?

How does this kind of technological wizardry work? Well, let us get to the good news first – calls to the US and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year, while those who are living in other countries will be billed really, really low rates. According to Google, they did work pretty hard to make sure these rates are competitively cheap, where you can start chatting to folks in the U.K., France, Germany, China and Japan amongst others from as low as $0.02 per minute. Yup, that’s right – it does make you wonder whether other VoIP companies will be able to compete on that front this time round. Dialing a phone number is easy peasy, working just like a standard phone. You click "Call phone" at the top of your chat list and dial a number or enter a contact's name, and you’re good to go.

Perfect if you want to make a quick call somewhere, or if the restaurant you’re at has really bad reception but a free Wi-Fi service – now how about that? Should you happen to have a Google Voice phone number, calls made from Gmail will display this number as the outbound caller ID. Heck, you can even set the settings to receive calls made to this number right inside Gmail.
