Wood iPad Stand helps with volume

Posted: 05 Sep 2010 02:16 PM PDT

People have been designing speakers in different shapes to optimize the sound for years, but a stand that does the same is a little more rare.  This iPad stand is supposed to help optimize the sound purely by the design of the stand itself.  It doesn’t have any extra electronic gimmicks, just a well thought out design.

Honestly, it’s nice to see someone thinking about the shape, material and design of the item before they start thinking about easy shortcuts.  Things like throwing in a cheap set of speakers instead of adding a few handy holes would make it just another accessory.  However, by being a little different this one is going to stand out more.  It’s made using lacquer over ippe and maple veneer.  The Unique Artistic Functional Wood iPod Dock/Stand may have to longest name ever created, but at least it’s somewhat affordable.  You can purchase it for $39.95 through Etsy.

Chirping Bird Alarm Clock

Posted: 05 Sep 2010 01:38 PM PDT

Waking up to the sound of birds chirping is a far sweeter way to rise than the obnoxious beeping from your alarm clock.  However, some don’t wake up in the morning to birds.  Be it because of working night shift or those birds just not being nearly reliable enough for your tastes, this alarm clock is one way to take care of those problems.  This dainty clock will chirp some life back into you whenever you need to pull yourself out of bed.

It even has features for the visually impaired by being capable saying out loud, the time.  The clock is supposed to use actual recorded bird sounds instead of some fake bird noises made in a computer lab.  The bird shaped clock comes in white, blue and pink.  They’re priced at about $38, but there is a small catch.  These appear to come from a Japanese vendor, so you’ll have to have them shipped to you for a decent amount of cash.

Easout Bulb Remover

Posted: 05 Sep 2010 01:06 PM PDT

I have always heard that a half of a potato is an easy way to remove a broken bulb from your light socket.  However, never having tried that method, I can’t exactly promote it with any amount of confidence.  If you’re a little nervous about using that old trick, you can pick up one of these sets of bulb removers.  They are one way to make sure that you won’t receive a shock from the broken bulb.

I will say this, the Easeout is one tool that you won’t think to buy until you already need it.  It’s questionable if anyone would run into broken bulbs often enough to justify the purchase.  If you would use it a lot though, then it would be worth trying out.  It has a safety shield to protect your eyes from glass shards and a plastic handle that won’t conduct electricity.  Pick up a pair for $5.98 through Taylor Gifts.
