ELAC Art Edition FS 247 Speakers let you choose the look Posted: 13 Dec 2009 03:00 PM PST Your tastes tend to change over time. Where you were a fanatic of very geometric art at one period in your life, you may later find that you’re into subtle elegant designs later. Which is why I’m such a big fan of gadgets that allow for you to change the look of them as you change. This set of ELAC Art Edition Speakers do exactly that with the use of tattoos. The designs come in floral, geometric and even a tiger look. The tattoos will not only make the speakers look great, but they protect them from water and scratches as well. Then when you’re tired of the design they’re easily removed. Of course while looking good the FS 247 loudspeakers also have great sound to go with their look. The two factors combined make it so that these speakers aren’t exactly the cheapest out there. The pricing begins at around $1500. Lucet Lamps keep your lighting eco-friendly Posted: 13 Dec 2009 02:00 PM PST Solar gadgets are pretty much a dime a dozen anymore. They’re still great for the environment, but they’re not quite as rare and unique as they used to be. Of course, there are still a few designers striving to make solar energy more stylish and functional for the general public. These Lucet Lamps are one of those things. Sure, they offer lighting from a strange angle, but since they’re always in the window, they’re incredibly low maintenance. These come from an industrial designer, Rui Palma. The small lamps have 3 different lights on each one. You could stick one on your window by itself, or stick them in a small cluster. The small lights absorb energy all day long and store that energy on the 2 AAA batteries. Then at night they give off a strong white glow. Right now this is still trapped in the concept mode, so only time will tell if this actually becomes a product. Source: ForeverGeek Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Night Vision Digital Video Camera Posted: 13 Dec 2009 01:10 PM PST You shouldn’t be stuck just pestering your friends with a video camera during the day. No, you need the ability to make them crazy once the lights go out as well. With this night vision camera you’ll never have to stop chasing someone with a camera. Plus, should you need night vision just in case of a zombie takeover, you could always tape this to your weapon later on to keep track of those pesky zombies. This camera can be flipped to the infrared illumination at night and allows for you to see up to 40 feet away in the dead of night. Then you can flip it to daytime mode during the day. The camera comes with a 2GB memory card. That card will allow for you to store up to 2 hours of night vision footage. It also comes with the usual things like a guide, a TV Out cable, a NightVision software CD, and a USB cable. You can purchase the camera for $99.99 through Think Geek. Toshiba Dynario portable fuel cell Posted: 13 Dec 2009 11:54 AM PST
If you love going green, then fuel cells should definitely figure in your plan. After all, they are currently the cleanest and the most efficient generators of energy around, with the Toshiba Dynario making it possible for you to carry one around in your back pack. This portable fuel cell power generator tips the scales at a mere 280 grams, measuring a diminutive 15cm x 2.1cm x 7.45cm while capable of churning out enough juice within 20 seconds to charge up not one – but two cellphones. All power will be stored in integrated lithium ion batteries which can later be transferred via USB to a compatible device of your choice when requried. Each Dynario comes with a dedicated 50 ml cartridge for refueling purposes, and each cartridge can be used to charge approximately three times before requiring a top up themselves. Fuel cells are currently way more dependable and reliable than portable solar chargers or micro wind turbines, with water being the only emission – definitely not something to worry about since water can always be used for your plants or to wash the floor (assuming enough has been accumulated, of course). At this point in time, the main obstacle would be the Dynario’s cost which costs around $275 for the fuel cell generator and $30 for each 50ml cartridge of methanol. A-25 XL2 brings a legend back to life Posted: 13 Dec 2009 11:43 AM PST Way back in 1969, the original A-25 was unleashed to the unsuspecting world by Dynaco, and the next decade that followed the A-25’s release made it one of the most popular high-end speakers to date, moving over one million units. It will be hard pressed to follow up on the legendary success of the product (partly due to the lack of choice back then which also played a role, we believe), but the folks at Annandale do intend to rekindle the speaker’s past success with the A-25 XL2 which now comes in natural maple, 40 years later. Before we move on any further, let us have a show of hands here. How many of you out there actually purchase sepakers that come with a trial period? If you happen to pick up a pair of the new A-25 XL2 loudspeaker system, then that would certainly qualify it, boasting a 30 day in-home trial, featuring a design, componentry and value that simply cannot be found in any of its competitors at a similar price range – at least that’s what Annandale claims. With the month long in-home trial offer, you are able to try the A-25's in the comfort of your own homes with your own equipment. Just like its predecessor, the A-25 XL2 is a two-way system which is based upon a powerful 10" European-made woofer that has been custom designed to handle both the bass and mid-range frequencies. You get 250% more radiating area than the typical 6 1/2" unit with the A-25 XL2's woofer. Of course, something as beautiful as this won’t come cheap – and the A-25 XL2 will retail for $2,499 a pair, coming in beautifully finished real American Maple veneer with matching speaker stands that are sold separately at $350 per pair. Among the other specifications include :-
