Able Planet True Fidelity SI350 Sound Isolation Sport Earphones

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 08:30 AM PDT

I always like to see what Able Planet, makers of some great headphones, are up to. One of the latest is the True Fidelity Sound Isolation Sport Earphones (model number SI350).

These In Ear/Hook headphones are pretty light, but they have pretty good sound. In fact, I am using them now to listen to a DVD, and I am pretty pleased. It is all part of the LINX AUDIO technology that the company has a patent on which enables both great bass and speech.

In addition to the great sound, the SI350 has an inline microphone that allows the user to make some phone calls and take voice notes on MP3 players and compatible smartphones.

The control of this microphone is done by a single button. Clicking the center button will pause and play tunes, and then there are all sorts of tricks the user can do for tracks. For example, double click goes to the next track, triple click goes to the previous track. Double-click and hold the button fasts-forwards within a track, and triple-click and holding the button will rewind.

I can’t find the SI350 on the Able Planet site, but I am sure it will show up soon. I did find it on the Google product search for about $70 online.

Mophie Juice Pack Reserve

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 08:15 AM PDT

Mophie is most famous for their Juice Pack Air, a protector/case that also serves as portable battery for an iDevice.

The Juice Pack Reserve is also designed to give an iPhone or iPod an extended battery life, but it isn’t a case. It uses a Zippo construction. The “Zippo” is the company’s own words, and it definitely looks like one of those flip-top metal lighters.

As you can see, the top flips off to reveal a 30 pin connector. Once this is plugged in, the Apple iDevice user is treated to 700mAh of battery power. That is enough for a quick charge, when you need it, and it is quite light.

I’m sure that you can see the keychain ring, showing it is light enough to keep in your pocket or purse with your keys. What you can’t see is that the bottom of unit pops out to reveal a USB plug. This is how you charge its battery, and it is ultra fast.

If you want to get one of these, you will have to wait a few days, as the Reserve won’t ship until September 30th. The Mophie Juice Pack Reserve is available for pre-order on the official Mophie web site, for a price of $34.95.

It’s a Supertooth! Supertooth! It’s the Supertooth HD!

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 08:00 AM PDT

This is the Supertooth HD, and it is a Bluetooth speaker designed for use in the car. I realize that you can’t see the back of this device, but it has a magnetic clip that is designed to hold it to the visor.

The Supertooth is good to have around if you need to take phone calls on the road, but don’t like to have something in your ear. It has dual microphones (one on the bottom and one on top) and two speakers with a 5-watt audio output and a 5.4-watt amplifier.

The big orange eye atop this black, gravestone-shaped device is the volume dial. If you push the center of it, you can give vocal commands like a Voice Dial, Check Battery, and you can take or ignore phone calls as well. You can also press the button for 3 seconds and redial the last number that you called. The button with the envelope on it will automatically dial the “SuperTooth HandsFree Assistant”.

I found that the Supertooth HD was able to absorb my contacts very easily. Though I haven’t yet seen this, but the backlight of the SuperTooth HD adapts automatically to ambient light in order not to distract a driver.

I had a very pleasant experience with this device, and this is a terrific alternative to holding a phone to your ear behind the wheel. You should be able to get this at the Supertooth HD site, and it is on sale in certain countries now. The lowest I can find for it is about $79.99, but it costs more if you get Dial2Do. Dial2Do is a service that allows Supertooth HD users to do e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, and SMS messages via voice. It is free for six months, and is then $3.99 after that.

Z3 GPS goggles for those who do not want to get lost

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 06:30 AM PDT

Going skiiing can be quite the fun activity – after all, you have nothing but a huge expanse of snow to which you can ply your trade, slaloming through the slopes with wanton abandon (once your skill level is right up there, of course, beginners as well as those who are not experienced enough need to maintain a degree of caution). Sometimes of course, you still need to get your bearings correct wherever you ski, as exploring too far away from the base might see you getting lost (either that or, if you have a really bad sense of direction).

Good thing there is this thing called GPS – and Zeal Optics from Colorado has introduced their latest model of goggles that sports a built-in global positioning system, calling it the Z3 GPS Goggles. These goggles will be constructed based on the technology introduced in the company’s Transcend GPS Goggles collection, where among the new features will include enhanced style and comfort, ease-of-use and data-capture capabilities.

Your eyes will definitely experience a whole new perspective – where you will be able to enjoy a far more advanced optics, not to mention improved head-mounted display technology and new 3-D data-capturing features. Taking nothing but the best capabilities of the Transcend GPS line, the Z3 GPS will come with enlarged polarized in-molded anti-fog lenses that will remove 99.9% of glare from the sun and slopes so that your eyes won’t fatigue so fast, but it will also be able to automatically adjust varying light levels that go from a clear tint in low light, to a dark rose/brown tint in brighter light.

You will also be able to obtain real-time access to performance statistics such as speed, altitude, temperature, and time during your run down the slopes. Seems to be the perfect tool for those who eat, sleep and breathe skiing. Nice to see the built-in monitor being redesigned in a manner that it is less obtrusive now than ever before. A rechargeable lithium ion battery will sport a 7-hour run time, so you should tire out far faster beyond the batteries do.

Expect the Z3 GPS to be used to the maximum thanks to downloadable software which lets you transfer all data from your goggles to your PC and Mac computers. It will retail for $549 a pop if you’re interested.

Diablo III shipping early next year

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 06:00 AM PDT

Blizzard has always been known to come up with quality games, and one of the earliest memories that I have of them would be playing Blackthorne on my aged 386 computer. Boy was the graphics drop dead gorgeous back then – and I would suppose for nostalgia’s sake, playing thing even today would be engaging (to a certain extent of course, and not one that would keep you glued to the screen for hours on end). Well, follow that with Diablo as well as its sequel, not to mention having Starcraft and Warcraft sandwiched in between, and you have quite the cult following.

Somehow, quality and the balance in gameplay seems to be synonymous with Blizzard’s titles, and we all know how much of a time eater Diablo II was as everyone loved slaying bovines in the Secret Cow Level, and collecting rare artifacts as well as gems to embed inside the sockets of some items to augment their already potent power. Well, now that Starcraft II is done and over with, the next big thing that folks can look forward to from Blizzard would be Diablo III.

This game has been a long time in coming, and now we finally have word from the developer themselves that Diablo III is set to ship sometime in early 2012. That’s just a few months away, so after waiting for so long, surely there is no harm in waiting a little bit longer, is there? Blizzard Entertainment has also extended the beta test for the hotly anticipated action role-playing game, and here is what they have to say about the game.

“With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn’t put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready. The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we’re taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players. Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.

The extra time will be put to good use as more testers are added to make sure that everything about the game will be as perfect as it can be upon launch. I like this kind of approach – better to take your time and be careful so that the final product released to the masses will not be gimped in any way, but provide plenty of fun right from the get go. I must imagine that there will be the inevitable patches to balance up some classes or items, but the initial experience will be fantastic right from the get go. How about you?

Vigilant Emergency Wrist Alarm

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 05:30 AM PDT

When it comes to personal protection, you cannot be too careful these days. Of course, it pays to always be vigilant and aware of your surroundings wherever you go, and if you so happen to have enrolled in some self-defense classes, surely you would be better prepared should some creep come up on you and try something untoward. For those who are lacking in the art of fighting, there is the $16.99 Vigilant Emergency Wrist Alarm – while it will not disable an attacker the way a taser would, this unique wrist band will be able to be activated in a jiffy, where the alarm draws attention to you should you need help, not to mention deterring attackers as well.

It comes in pretty pink, so I don’t think the guys would be wearing this anytime soon, and designed for one-touch activation with hands free operation, you can be sure that it will work well when called upon. There are also flashing emergency lights that cater for nighttime visibility and location. It is useful for rape-prevention, but interestingly enough, the package itself does not contain the word “rape” so that it ends up being appropriate for all ages. After all, you might find it awkward to explain the meaning of the word to your little one wearing this.

Salt & Pepper Power Battery Shakers

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 05:00 AM PDT

You can literally “power up” your meals with the Salt & Pepper Power Battery Shakers – these will come in interesting D battery replicas, and they’re not poisonous in any way whenever it comes into contact with your food. Definitely the way to amplify the taste of your spread, and whenever they run out of flavor power, you need not buy a new set for $11.99 – no sir, all you need to do is just refill them and you (and your tastebuds) are good to go!

To know just what the remaining level of salt and pepper are left inside the respective shakers, there is a transparent strip on the side to indicate the amount of “power”. One thing’s for sure – while it might not be able to provide juice for your electrical items, “recharging” this will happen many, many more times in your lifetime than your Eneloop batteries are able to provide. Definitely the perfect gift for the geek at home (and in the kitchen).
