The Universe of Wilby – Safe Social Site for Kids Posted: 02 May 2012 02:41 PM PDT
There’s a reason Facebook and Twitter are so popular, I think folks have a deep desire to remain connected and to be able to learn from , or simply observe others. I’m not commenting on whether that’s good or bad, only that whatever these services are offering, we are most certainly buying it, and our children are no exception. They want to be part of it too, but should they? I think the answer used to be no, I couldn’t find the upside to my 9 year old having a Facebook account and some of the other “kid-friendly” sites are just a little too “childish”. But now we get to meet Wilby. With thousands of members from 20 different countries, Wilby.tv has officially launched an English version in Europe. Founded by three entrepreneurs (and fathers) concerned about Internet use among younger kids, and education both at school and in the home, The Universe of Wilby is an online social universe helping children six and older by offering effective personal development tools in a safe, fun and educational online entertainment environment. The Universe of Wilby is designed for children aged 6 to 12 years and with parental support, members can create their own avatars, express themselves, communicate, learn other languages, earn points, watch preselected videos, post their accomplishments, earn rewards and participate in multiplayer educational games already played in over 20,000 primary schools. This online world also offers an educational animated TV series where the main character, a ten year old boy named Wilby, experiences the daily realities of today’s children and tells his stories to correspondents who write to him from around the world. The Universe of Wilby is a fun, educational and safe online social universe for children and their families and is available for free at www.wilby.tv The English version is available now, and my daughter loves it! Xbox 360 Celebration Pack heads for the UK Posted: 02 May 2012 09:00 AM PDT Do you want to show to the rest of the world just how much of a devotion you have as a patriot to the United Kingdom? Well, standing up straight as a pole whenever the national anthem plays (and remembering all the words to it) would definitely help, but if you are a gamer with a cause, then you might want to look into the Xbox 360 Celebration Pack which is headed towards the UK – where it will come with the Union Jack slapped all over the Xbox 360 console itself, the Kinect set, and controller. This particular “Celebration Pack” for the UK will start rolling out from May 25th onwards, and we have absolutely no clue what Microsoft wants to celebrate over at this point in time, although the Summer Olympics is a guess worth aiming for. You will get a 4GB Xbox 360 inside in addition to a Kinect set and a controller, all decked out in the UK flag, where the entire shebang ought to set you back by around £250. For Queen and country! Pix and Stix lets you widdle and wallop your iPad Posted: 02 May 2012 08:45 AM PDT Just how do you view your iPad? Is it more indispensable compared to your smartphone? For folks who spend plenty of time with their precious Apple tablet and have a musical inclination towards percussion instruments, then the £24.99 Pix and Stix might be your cup of tea, as you are able to wallop it with the Pix and Stix. Specially designed for iPad owners who want to rock out on GarageBand at home, the Pix and Stix will be made out of a pair of soft electro-conductive rubber drumsticks as well as an accompanying pick, letting you churn out beats unabashedly on your tablet without causing any damage. Your fingertips, too, will be able to take some time off from drumming the table in this way. Not only that, it would make you look less silly (although other parties might beg to differ, as it might be seen as even sillier to bang some drumsticks on your iPad for those who are not in the know). You can choose from black, blue and yellow colors, depending on whatever floats your boat. [ Pix and Stix lets you widdle and wallop your iPad copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Samsung Series 7 Gamer notebook Posted: 02 May 2012 08:30 AM PDT When it comes to games, gamers certainly know what they want in their own hardware configuration. Most of the time, what they have is not able to satisfy them, as they are always on the lookout for something better and more powerful. While we do know that notebooks are not exactly the most ideal platform for one to play the latest and greatest games, it is still better compared to the relatively simpler titles that appear on your iPhone, Android device, iPad or Nintendo 3DS. Enter the gaming notebook genre, and Samsung decides to try their luck in this segment with the Samsung Series 7 Gamer notebook. Just what kind of hardware specifications do you think the Samsung Series 7 Gamer notebook will be able to deliver? For starters, the Series 7 Gamer will come with a 17.3-inch full HD LCD display that ought to offer more than adequate viewing real estate for your eyes to enjoy each and every polygon that appears, apart from high quality Dolby Home Theater surround sound that ought to keep your ears more than happy during your gaming sessions. Graphically speaking, fret not as there is the rich NVIDIA Geforce graphics that delivers the goods, while a 3rd generation Intel Core i7 processor alongside a unique dial that allows users to easily transition between four modes for maximum performance at all times rounds off the list of interesting features. Granted, I am quite sure that those who purchase the Samsung Series 7 Gamer notebook would rarely venture into the other three modes that are the General Mode, Quiet Mode and Power Saver Mode. After all, it defeats the purpose, unless of course, you want to purchase an overkill of a working machine that has the option for you to enjoy the latest games on it as well. We will take a closer look at the Gaming Mode – when selected, there will be a distinctive graphic that appears on the screen to let you know that the Gaming Mode is active. Following that, the main gaming keys will then be highlighted on the keyboard in red, while a light is turned on around the speakers which will pulsate to match the game's sounds. To make sure that your gaming action is uninterrupted, the Windows key and touchpad will be disabled the moment a game is inserted. Not only that, the keyboard will also feature ergonomic u-shaped key caps, a 2.7mm keystroke and separated arrow keys, letting you enjoy rapid play with minimal errors. Sony VAIO T13 Ultrabook is the Japanese giant’s first Posted: 02 May 2012 08:17 AM PDT Sony’s range of VAIO notebooks have always enthralled me, as the marketing department has done a pretty good job at putting the picture of the VAIO series as something that is rather upmarket in nature, and you pay for the design as well compared to other brands. Over the years, however, Sony has also introduced far more affordable VAIO series of notebooks, and this time, their latest announcement involves Sony’s first foray into the Ultrabook market with the Sony VAIO T13. Granted, the Sony VAIO T13 will not be released just yet, but will only be made available later next month (early June is the earliest as to when you can expect to see this in Sony store shelves) for a yet undisclosed price, so why not make the most out of it and let us bring you through the system specifications right after the jump? After all, this might just be the Ultrabook for you if you are in the market for one. For starters, the Sony VAIO T13 will definitely impress you with its design as well as sheer lightness of it all, with a chassis that is made out of aluminum and magnesium, this thin and light VAIO T13 is said to be able to go everywhere with you without breaking your back. Thanks to the Rapid Wake + Eco function, you ought to be able to get up and running in moments, and should you need to take a break from all of the hard work which you have put in over the past few hours, just close the lid and watch the T Series enter into an energy-efficient deep sleep right away, making sure that your data remains stashed away safely for up to 90 days – as long as there is still juice in the battery, of course. The Sony VAIO T13 boasts of up to 9 hours of battery life (for SSD equipped models) between charges, giving you peace of mind whenever you are working for hours on end without a power outlet in sight. Not only that, Intel’s latest-generation Ultra Low Voltage Intel Core processors ought to give the Sony VAIO T13 enough performance bang for your buck, and with an ultra-fast SSD flash drive inside, you ought to benefit from super fast access to files that are approximately ten times faster than a standard hard disk drive. Other hardware specifications include a 13″ LED display, a range of connectivity options such as HDMI, VGA and RJ45 network ports, an SD/MMC media slot, and a built-in 'Exmor for PC' HD web camera. This is definitely something worth looking forward to early next month, don’t you think so? Hopefully it will be reasonably priced in its class, too.
