Mazooka, Marshmallow shooting bazooka

Posted: 15 Feb 2011 04:12 PM PST

Years ago, I go these marshmallow shooters as a Christmas gift. They were just skinny PVC pipe, and I had to put a tiny marshmallow in one end and blow out the other. I hope my mother-in-law didn’t spend that much on them, because I don’t recall using it much.

Someone has taken this concept of the marshmallow gun and mixed it with some technology to make it better. The end result was the Mazooka, which is apparently some sort of combination of the words “marshmallow bazooka”.

It is a definite step up from the marshmallow gun that I briefly owned. Mine shot the tiny marshmallows that get put in cocoa, but the Mazooka can shoot the giant sized marshmallows. It can propel them from 30 feet away, which is enough time for you to make a good run for it when you hit your target. However, I’m not certain your target will notice a hit from something so light and puffy.

The Mazooka is run on batteries, but my sources does not say what kind. The batteries power the gun as well as a viewing scope light that turns red when it is pumping up, and then green when it is time to fire. It takes about five to eight seconds to power up, by the way.

The Mazooka costs about $50, and I am not certain it is worth it, as it only shoots one marshmallow at a time.

Battleship Live takes the game in a questionable direction

Posted: 15 Feb 2011 03:52 PM PST

Some of you might remember when we reported that the classic board game Monopoly was being given this electronic treatment with Monopoly Live. The updated game was the same as the classic game, but with this tower thing in the middle can roll the non-existent dice and keep track of all the money.

Now, another classic board game gets a tower makeover with Battleship Live, which also has a tower to keep track of the players through infrared sensors.

Just like the original rules, the players give their opponent coordinates for the “hit” or “miss”. What is different about this version is that there are spy planes that can fly around this track and “snoop” on the opponent’s ships to confirm an attack. The board also looks very different than the grid that I remember.

My Source did not really like this particular Live version of Battleship, and I can see why. Sometimes technology can get in the way of something that is fun without an electronics. After all, I never wanted to play Electronic Battleship because I was satisfied with just pegs and a board. I didn’t have to see a ship with a red light on it to simulate an explosion. It’s neat, but not necessarily needed.

Anyway, the game is on sale soon for about $50, which may or may not be worth it for you.

HTC up to a lot at MWC 2011: Introducing the Incredible S, Desire S, and the Wildfire S

Posted: 15 Feb 2011 03:25 PM PST

Right now, there are a lot of things going on in Barcelona for MWC 2011. HTC is really pulling out the stops as they have unveiled several phones.

I will start with the Incredible S. It has a 4-inch Super LCD display, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 1.1 GB of internal storage, 768 of RAM, microSD slot, 8-Megapixel rear facing camera with LED flash and 720p HD video capture, as well as a 1.3 Megapixel front-facing camera.

The Desire S has Android Gingerbread and has a 3.7 inch WVGA display. Internally, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor, and it has a front facing camera of 1.3 Megapixel and another of 5 Megapixels.

As for the Wildfire S (pictured above) it has a 3.2-inch HVGA display, and 2.3 Gingerbread. It also has a 5 Megapixel camera with auto-focus as well as a miroSD slot, and some “deep integration with Facebook”.

Would you believe that this isn’t all HTC was planning to do with MWC? I have heard about their tablet known as the Flyer, and alumuminum Android Tablet that can play console games.

Then there are two Facebook phones of the Salsa and ChaCha, and the rumor of the Revolver of a Honeycomb phone. Is it just me, or has HTC become the hardest working company in the phone business?

KidZui – The Internet for Kids

Posted: 15 Feb 2011 08:28 AM PST

I came home today to have my 8 year old daughter tell me she was on youtube.com and watched a naked man with his stuff  jiggling. I tried to appear unconcerned, while my face flushed with color and I considered my options. Luckily I asked her to show it to me, and the "stuff" to which she had referred was his enormous unclothed belly, which prevented you from being able to tell if he had pants on or not.

Fifteen minutes later I was downloading the totally free internet browser specifically designed for kids, KidZui.  The KidZui K2 browser allows access to millions of websites, games, and videos which are all pre-screened and pre-approved by KidZui's editorial staff, teachers, and parents.

Unlike some similar kids browser options KidZui does not create it's own warm and fuzzy content. KidZui allows your kids to do real searches and to pull up actual sites and information from the web, but since all the material has been checked, there are no, shall we say, jiggly surprises?

So let your kids check out the most popular websites and games. Let them save their favorites, cruise youtube for some silly fun and watch music videos while you rest easy knowing that KidZui is saving you from any of those awkward moments like when your kid wants to search for pictures of the Blue-Footed Boobie. There's something I'll never be able to un-see.

The KidZui browser is free, so get yours now at  www.kidzui.com

Is It a Scooter, a Bicycle, a Skateboard? No, It’s Sbyke !

Posted: 15 Feb 2011 07:33 AM PST

So you feel like you've seen it all, there are bicycles, unicycles, skateboards and scooters, but nothing really new, nothing you could look at and say, cool, that looks like it could be fun.

Well, I had just such a reaction at the 2011 International Toy Fair in New York, when I was introduced to the Sbyke, a very cool, patented rear-steering scooter. See the video HERE. This product is receiving rave reviews from racing celebrities. In fact, Sbyke has already joined forces with the Michael Jordan of Motocross, Ricky Carmichael who is currently the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver, with the hopes of bringing the Sbyke into the racing pits.

The Sbyke is certainly something that can appeal to the whole family, mom and dad can use it just as well as the kids, although, as usual, it seems like the kids are capable of pushing this thing to a whole other level of wheeled entertainment.

The Sbyke passed rigorous testing before being granted it’s patent by the patent office, both in the U.S. and internationally. Preproduction is underway, with initial models released this fall. The company also tells us that you'll see the Sbyke right next to bicycles, skateboards and scooters. Oh my.

For more information on Sbyke, or to purchase, please visit www.sbyke.com

I Am T-Pain Mic for those who want to rap their way to stardom

Posted: 15 Feb 2011 05:30 AM PST

The phenomenon that is autotuning has clearly been a game changer where music is concerned in the last decade or so, and something which intended to perfect the pitch of one’s voice has resulted in vocals that are really far off from the original. Of course, some might even refer this as the T-Pain effect, since the artist has been one of the more popular proponents of this technique.

Well, here is the I Am T-Pain Mic that goes one up on the I Am T-Pain App for the iPhone, since you don’t even need to phone to get started in the first place. Jakks Pacific will be releasing this nifty little device for $40 when fall arrives, where it is capable of recording your voice and play it back autotuned. Heck, you can have some T-Pain fun by downloading the vocals to your computer.

Time to play some prank calls and get gullible groupies to share a hotel room with you when everyone is drunk, claiming you’re T-Pain in the process? Perhaps, but you might find yourself to be in a whole lot of trouble the morning after.

Can’t get enough of Vegas or Macau? Apart from getting professional help so that you don’t sink deeper into the pit of uncontrolled gambling, there is another way out for those who still feel that they can battle it out on their own. We’re talking about the £29.99 iPhone Jackpot Slots, where you are required to provide the iPhone for yourself first before getting started on some portable one-armed bandit goodness.

This is definitely an iPhone/iPod touch dock with a difference, where it will dock, charge and sync your Apple device in style while offering the semblance of a mini Vegas-style slot machine. It isn’t just for show, you know, since the lever is fully working and will play nice with an included app.

In-game credits can be won so that you unlock further slot games that have their very own difficulty levels, ensuring that you will never run bored at the office and end up in a Nerf gun fight.

LeapFrog Explorer tablet gets your little ones started off young

Posted: 15 Feb 2011 04:30 AM PST

It is pretty interesting to see the tablet form factor making waves in the market, and all of it was due to the Apple iPad making a pretty huge splash when it was released last year. Well, it doesn’t look as though tablets are going to go away anytime soon, what with more than a hundred of them getting announced at CES last month. Since tablets are here to stay, here is a surefire method to make sure your kids do not enter school obsolete – expose them to the world of tablets from early on with the LeapFrog Explorer.

This multifunctional learning tablet will be able to usher in the next generation of learning, digital reading and personal creativity for children ages four and up, where it will hit global English markets this summer. Just in case you were wondering how come the LeapPad Explorer looks so familiar, that is because it has its roots in the 2010 Educational Toy of The Year Award winner, the Leapster Explorer.

Similar to an adult tablet, the LeapPad Explorer works slightly differently due to its kid-centric nature, offering endless fun experiences for kids, housed in a durable package (but of course, did you expect anything less?). It offers the largest ever learning library at launch with over a century of learning games, videos, e-Books and flash cards amongst others to choose from.

Not only that, the curriculum on offer makes sure it covers all ground, ranging from spelling to phonics skills, mathematics, creativity, science, music, geography, and more. With its included stylus, kids are also able to give their writing some much needed practice.

The LeapFrog Explorer is also proud to be the first kids tablet that sports a built-in camera, video recorder, microphone, and animation studio, letting one express him or herself creatively, while sharing said fruits of their labor with family and friends. The tablet is smart enough to adjust the learning across experiences automatically, letting your little ones learn at their own pace.

The LeapPad Explorer will hit the market for $99.99, where it can be further augmented with downloadable applications priced at $7.50 and above, with game cartridges going for $24.99.

Sonim unveils Sonim XP3300 FORCE GSM handset at MWC 2011

Posted: 15 Feb 2011 04:00 AM PST

The name Sonim evokes a sense of security and ruggedness, simply because they have proven in the past that their handsets have long been the tough nuts of the industry. Well, it makes perfect sense then for the company to introduce their latest Sonim XP3300 FORCE GSM handset at Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona, Spain.

This ultra-rugged MRM-ready handset was specially designed to help enterprises and government organizations locate, track and manage mobile workers, their tasks and assets. Of course, it is an evolution in engineering after being built on lessons that were learned from serving half a million customers with the toughest jobs on earth, where among some of them toil at 16 hour shifts. Let us see how Sonim’s XP3300 FORCE will be able to maximize workforce efficiency, minimize downtime and enhance safety in industries such as transportation, logistics and utilities.

Sonim’s handsets will be able to stretch the limits of phone engineering, where among them include working just fine after being submerged in an antifreeze mixture for quite some time, while having it dropped for more than 30 meters proved to be nothing more than a tickle for the XP3300 FORCE. Apart from that, casting it in concrete is guaranteed to send other phones to their tombs, but this handset shrugs it off as though it was nothing.

Just what other superlatives can we use to describe the Sonim XP3300 FORCE? How about professional-grade Assisted GPS that delivers highly accurate locations and faster location fixes due to the excellent signal sensitivity? It also has a pretty long lasting battery, boasting up to 20 to 24 hours of talk time or GPS tracking time of up to 26 hours with MRM applications.

Apart from that, it will feature a 2-megapixel camera with a bright LED flash and digital zoom, Sonim JAVA Application Manager (JAM) store support, quad band GSM support, as well as GPRS and EDGE data capability. Yeah, you won’t be rocking to any 3G connection anytime soon, but then again we don’t think working in deep mining tunnels would get you a reception either.

This IP-68 rated, water and dust proof handset also boasts a 2″ high-resolution display is protected by a class-leading 1.5 mm thick Corning Gorilla Glass lens, and has been certified to stand up against salt, fog, humidity, transport shock, and thermal shock and operates in temperatures ranging from -20 degrees C to +55 degrees C. Backed by Sonim’s 3-Year Comprehensive Warranty, you would definitely make the Sonim XP3300 FORCE GSM handset a priority if you’re the numero uno butterfingers in your family (or corporation).
