T-82 is one candy-scooping robot Posted: 12 Jan 2011 04:39 PM PST This is the T-82 robot, and it’s purpose is to give out candy. This isn’t the first time that I have seen a food-serving robot. I believe that there is a restaurant that has robot servers. You’ll note that there is some sort of medieval armor or something on this. Perhaps the T-82 is meant for a Renaissance Fair. Granted, I don’t think that there were any robots during the Renaissance. It does look like something that we need, doesn’t it? After all, I’ve been to candy shops before and seen people scoop candy into bags. Why not have a robot do this task? Just think of how much a kid will be delighted with it. I know my kids would love it. It would probably be like a trip to Willy Wonka’s factory without all the creepy things that gave kids nightmares in that Gene Wilder movie. The T-82 has a pan/tilt camera for a head, and its hands are quite good with arms that have 6 degrees of movement. Now it’s time to talk about that fear that we have that robots might one take over like in The Matrix or The Terminator series. Perhaps this is how it begins, with robots who give out candy. This Carry-On Bag can split into three parts Posted: 12 Jan 2011 04:07 PM PST Some of you have had to travel on an airplane with one of those roll-on carry-on bags, and may have had the unfortunate surprise of not having the bag fit in the overhead compartment. Fortunately, this particular bag from Truco allows the user to make it smaller, by separating it into three individual pieces. The twenty-inch bag consists of a carry-on suitcase, a laptop bag, as well as a personal valuables bag. All of these three sections can be securely joined together, and then can be easily separated. So, the next time you are about to get to an airplane, and the suitcase doesn’t fit, just stand still and take apart your suitcase and put it in the overhead compartment and under the seat in front of you. Granted, the people waiting behind you to get to their own seats might not be very patient. Hopefully, they will all be impressed with your take-apart bag. Apparently, these particular bags were supposed to be on display at the TGA Show 2011. In all honesty, I had no idea that there was a TGA Show 2011. In all honesty, I would have loved to see this on display at CES 2011 this year. I wonder why I didn’t. Anyway, you should be able to get this for about $200. Mindflex is about to go head-to-head Posted: 12 Jan 2011 03:34 PM PST Some of you might be familiar with Mindflex. It is a toy that we have reported on before that allows the user/player to concentrate to create some kind of telekinesis to move a ball up and down through an obstacle course. You’ll be pleased to know that Mindflex is about to incorporate the marriage of two minds. With Mindflex Duel, you can play against an opponent. I’m not certain how it works. Is there supposed to be two balls that each player is controlling, or is there one ball that each player is attempting to control? Yes, I don’t know how the two-player Mindflex is played, but I know that the game allows for cooperative play. I actually like games with cooperative play. I was playing a cool game the other day called Forbidden Island, and I liked that all players were working together for a common goal rather than playing against each other. I wonder if I should do a review on that game. I also wonder if Mindflex didn’t make an appearance at CES 2011. The first time I saw Mindflex, it was at CES, but I can’t remember the year. There is no official word of when Mindflex Duel will be available, but you can pre-order it now on Amazon for about $99.99. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Television To Internet Converter Posted: 12 Jan 2011 12:34 PM PST We know that Sony has decided to revolutionize the way TV works this year at CES by integrating even more of the Internet inside, but what happens when you are still rocking to an old school TV and decide to go against the grain by not upgrading your TV once every couple of years? That’s what the Television To Internet Converter is for then – this nifty little device is capable of turning your television into an Internet browser. Basically, it will require a fairly recent TV that has an HDMI port so that it can hook into there, using the included cable to communicate with a wired or wireless home Internet connection. The television’s screen will show off a proprietary web browser that relies on a virtual keyboard that is controlled from the included remote. Apart from that, it will show off various information such as the time, weather, and calendar, while sporting bookmarks for popular websites including YouTube and Google Maps. No full HD here as it maxes out at 720p resolution. You can bring home the Television To Internet Converter for grandpa at $199.95 each. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Mad Catz offers new range of mice Posted: 12 Jan 2011 12:23 PM PST
Meant to complement the Eclipse range of keyboards, the mobilemouse will cram in some rather impressive technology without having to sacrifice good looks. Made out of premium hard-wearing materials alongside a die cast metal frame, the mobilemouse was specially designed to stand-up to the most demanding of commuter or business use. Of course, when Mad Catz puts it that way, we do wonder whether banging your mouse against the table out of frustration at work constitutes as demanding business use…what do you think? It will come with a low profile Scroll Ball that enables 4-way 360° scrolling, while cramming in 1600dpi laser technology to ensure smooth operation on a variety of surfaces. Since it is fully wireless, the mobilemouse will obviously run on 2.4GHz technology and features a 'nano-dongle' that delivers pretty much a rock solid connection at all times, while looking unobtrusive even when it is plugged in. Fret not about having it sip much more juice from your notebook than it should though, as it will come with on-board intelligent power management that automatically sends the mouse into standby mode when the computer shuts down, hence prolonging the battery life to 6 months using a sole AAA battery. The new Mad Catz Eclipse branded colored mobilemouse is tipped to begin shipping worldwide from March this year onwards at $59.99 a pop. Cambridge Audio goes 3D with 751BR 3D Blu-ray Universal player Posted: 12 Jan 2011 12:20 PM PST
The 751BR is well equipped with a couple of HDMI outputs, sporting the ability to deliver 3D video to multiple displays while supporting onboard decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. These formats surely can also output as bitstreams for an AV receiver to decode internally. Apart from that, first time users will not feel lost either since there is a clear on-screen menu that makes setting up the entire system a snap, and while the 751BD is in action, it will not wake up the dead – on the contrary, it is whisper quiet and lighting fast, boasting of a disc loading time that is a fraction of what the competition offers. In addition, the 751BD will incorporate a high quality Marvell QDEO video scaler in order to produce incredible picture quality from existing DVDs – meaning they will be upscaled to full HD 1080p resolution, although you will never be able to get actual full HD resolution so do expect to see some form of artifacts form around the images. What really makes the 751BD shine would be its musical performance, where it features genuinely uncontested audiophile credentials. After all, when you pair up a mouth watering specification such as five Wolfson WM8740 DACs, Anagram Technologies Q5 192 kHZ upsampling and a choice of digital filters, isn’t the 751BD a true modern marvel? Supported audio formats include DVD-A, SACD and of course, the venerable CD. For more modern connections, you can hook up USB and eSATA drives to it. Any takers?
