SixthSense could help search-and-rescue teams Posted: 25 May 2010 04:59 PM PDT This is a concept device by Dieter Amick, and it is designed to make finding lost people a whole lot easier. It is named “SixthSense for Search and Rescue”, and it is designed to be a computer that you wear on the front of you. It isn’t exactly something that looks plausible with today’s technology, because the screen looks like it pulls out like a reverse window blind. Granted, I’ve heard of flexible displays before, and I suppose that the company that makes it cheap to mass-produce and affordable will probably be the next big tech company, and will make billions. As you can see, the computer screen can retract into a pouch like compartment that is best described as a fanny-pack. Perhaps that isn’t the best description, for the source shows people wearing this fanny pack in front of them and quite high, almost at the neck. Of course, here is the part where I explain that this is just concept technology, and that this is still just some sort of experiment. However, you can’t help but wonder if this GPS system could make a terrific accessory for search and rescue crews. I wish it wasn’t called SixthSense. You really shouldn’t name a search and rescue device after a film with the most famous tagline of: “I see dead people”. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Interactiv Boxing is fully adjustable Posted: 25 May 2010 04:29 PM PDT This Interactiv Boxing is a punching bag that isn’t like any other. You know how most punching bags just hang? This one is completely adjustable, on a rack that allows it to be shifted up or down as the user or multiple users require. You’ll note the specially marked places where you can punch. I suppose that this is what makes it different than your average punching bag, but then again, your average punching bag doesn’t have 10 fitness programs that provide numerical feedback on your work out. From what I can see, I can’t help but wonder if this thing talks. Does it tell the user: “Come on, buddy, you can hit it harder than that”. Considering that punching bag sells for $182, with a wall-mount rack for an additional $97, it practically ought to talk back. Of course, for what you lose in money you make up in space. If you own a heavy punching bag, you know how much space that you need for them. If you can save on that, then it is probably worth your time. That, or you could get yourself a Wii, and just use the Wiimote plus Nunchuck to throw a few punches and get into some virtual fights. Sony Nextep Wrist computer of 2020 Posted: 25 May 2010 03:02 PM PDT I remember back in the eighties, when someone wanted to show some concept technology, they would say something like: “By the year 2000, this will be the technology”. Apparently, 2020 is the new 2000. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen concept technology that has said: “this is the tech of the year 2020″. This is a bracelet watch/mobile device called the Sony Nextep Computer, which has a pull-out keyboard, as well as an OLED screen. Now, you’re probably thinking that the white box above the Sony Nextep Computer is the box that the device comes in, but it is, in fact, a hologram. Yes, that’s right, I said hologram. This is one of those technologies that requires holograms in order to be made real. I can’t help but wonder how far away is a holographic society? I guess we’ll soon find out, and when we do, it will be one of those technologies that just takes over. Sort of like cell phones, texting, Twitter, Facebook, and everything else technological that feels like it sprung up overnight. Anyway, the Nextep wrist computer is designed by Hiromi Kiriki, and I would love to see it on my wrist. Perhaps I’ll see it at a trade show and get a chance to try it out. In the words of George Takei: “Oh my!” Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. [ Sony Nextep Wrist computer of 2020 copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] Related Posts: |
Posted: 25 May 2010 02:34 PM PDT Instead of getting your normal desk light, change things up and illuminate your desk with a picture of a desk lamp. Although this looks like nothing more than a strange canvas with nothing more than a desk light, the light is an actual working light. With the bright white canvas, you could even pass it off as modern art. The materials for this whole project included a printed poster and a bright LED light. These were originally only made as a group of 50 and it sounded as if it’d be limited to that amount. Well the first round is sold out and they’re making a second bunch that are scheduled to be delivered on June 18th. There are very few available and sadly one of these prints will cost you $195. Eco Extreme All Terrain Speaker Case Posted: 25 May 2010 12:22 PM PDT Your gadgets should be able to go anywhere you can go, but that tends not to be the case. Ziotek Color-Coded Surge Protector Posted: 25 May 2010 11:52 AM PDT Slowly there have been more and more solutions for cables, specifically for figuring out what cable goes with which device. A lot of us are still using the team method of tugging on different cords till you find the right one. However, this cheap surge protector might convert a few more to start using a much more simple method.
