Espro Press project needs your help Posted: 10 Dec 2011 04:30 AM PST Coffee lovers from our readership, your help is needed! If you want to be part of the innovation known as the Espro Press, it is currently being displayed at the Kickstarter page, being touted as a precision coffee brewer that is similar to a French press, although it does have a patent-pending two-stage micro-filter which is touted to preserve all of the freshly brewed flavors and aromas, while making sure all those nasty sediments will remain right out of your cup. The single cup press was launched last year, and due to overwhelming response by those who kept on knocking back cup of Joes, the customers of the single cup press requested for a larger version, hence the Espro Press project that scales things up in order to deliver around 30 ounces of coffee, letting you enjoy more than a single cup or to share it with friends. The design itself is already ready, while the prototypes are complete – it is only short of money for a production run, and this is where your generosity is being appealed. Basically, the Espro Press is capable of making around 4 cups of coffee per round, where it holds 1.25 liters, which is around 25% larger compared to other "8 cup" French presses that are on the market. When fully pressed, it translates to approximately 30 oz of press coffee, sans the nasty grit. The stainless steel vacuum insulated container ensures that the water temperature is maintained throughout the brew, resulting in more precise flavors. If you decide to change the brew temperature, you will end up with new and different flavors, and once you’re done brewing, your coffee is supposed to stay hot longer, so that your second and third cups (true blue coffee lovers know that one cup is just not enough) will remain piping hot too. How does it work, you ask? Certainly no sorcery is involved, but it shares the same process as a typical French Press, although the Espro micro-filter does quite the fantastic job of separating the grinds from the coffee. All you need to do is preheat the container, throw in your fair share of coffee and water, stir it around, wait anywhere from 3 to 4 minutes, press, and voila! – you can serve you and your guests right away. Want a stronger mix? Just use more coffee, and you’re good to go. They’re currently around $11,500 short of their goal, with 45 more days to go. Leica introduces V-Lux 3 digital camera Posted: 10 Dec 2011 04:00 AM PST If you want to take the road less traveled where digital cameras are concerned, then you might not want to consider old names like Nikon, Canon and Panasonic, but rather, how about Leica? Leica is truly a class apart from the others, as it isn’t exactly the most popular brand that you see people carry around. What you see above is not a DSLR, but rather, a regular compact digital camera known as the Leica V-Lux 3 that will come with an extremely flexible lens. How flexible, you ask? Well, the Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 4.5 – 108 mm f/2.8 – 5.2 ASPH. 24-fold super-telephoto zoom lens is more than capable of handling a wide range of focal lengths that are equivalent to 25–600 mm in 35 mm format. Not only that, the newly developed 12.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor is also said to guarantee exceptional image quality for all applications. Touted by Leica to be a truly universal solution for creative photographers who want an all-in-one camera, the V-Lux 3 will also boast of a wide range of video options, letting you record all your favorite moments in video quality that is equal to those found on premium-range camcorders. Imagine capturing Full HD video in AVCHD format with 1920 × 1080 pixels and 60 full frames per second – not only does this format ensure a picture perfect rendition of fast movement in outstanding detail, it is also perfect for conversion to alternative resolutions as well as refresh rates. The whole 24-fold zoom range will be made available during video recording, and the built-in stereo microphone that boasts of an electronic wind noise filter ensures a crystal-clear soundtrack. Apart from that, the V-Lux is is also said to be one of the fastest consecutive shooting cameras in its class, thanks to high-speed burst-shooting capability that allows it to achieve bursts of 12 frames per second at full resolution, and if the resolution is lowered to 3.5-megapixels, one enjoys a whopping 60 frames per second, now how about that? Trust the Germans to come up with a stunning and practical design which the Leica V-Lux 3 certainly does very well when placed in your hands. With an integrated handgrip that ensures it remains steady, while having a lightweight body, you will be able to pull off one handed shots with aplomb. No idea on pricing, but it will be out from January next year onwards, meaning it will miss the holiday shopping boat. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews.
