Pivot Power Creative Outlet

Power strips never want to budge, they just stay stick straight.  Well thankfully Quirky Products is offering a new solution.  This one will be able to move and conform to any shape that pleases you.  It’ll make stashing it into small spaces a whole lot easier than the straight strips.  You can even just put it in a zig-zag shape for silly decorative reasons.

Being a Quirky product you get to feel more like you’re a part of the process.  It shows you just how many units of the bunch have been sold and how much money is going to each of the inventors and contributers involved in the making of this odd little power strip.  These are currently up for pre-sale for $23 through Quirky.

Harry Poter and the Forbidden Journey ride at Wizarding World

Posted: 28 Jun 2010 04:23 PM PDT

In case you can’t wait for Star Tours to re-open again, then you should probably check out the one attraction that everyone wants to visit: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

The one ride that seems to have a blend of a lot of interesting rides with Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.

The ride is a mix of many rides including “The Many Adventures of Spider-Man” from Universal which uses a lot of CG. It also uses the tech of “Soarin’”, a ride at EPCOT where the spectator sits in a seat hovered above a giant screen to generate the illusion of flying.

Mixed in with the more modern ride technology are those animatronics, a staple for parks like Disneyland. In the Forbidden Journey, the animatronics are giant spiders, dragons, and the Dementors. That part might scare the younger ones. It also features some air blasts, smoke, and water.

This ride is about four minutes long, and the plot is about Hagrid and a lost dragon, or something that hopefully J.K. Rowling approved of.

Well, I would imagine that this ride needs very spotlight, and I am so certain that you’ll be waiting in line for a long time to get into this one. I remember that I was in Disneyland when Star Tours had its first year, and I waited at least an hour and a half. This was before we had mobile devices to keep us occupied in lines.

Forever21 augmented reality billboard at Times Square

Posted: 28 Jun 2010 03:49 PM PDT

Some of you might remember when we reported on this billboard in the Netherlands that used augmented reality to make it look like the bystanders were in the scene being displayed.

This is another billboard that uses augmented reality, and it is located in New York City’s famous Times Square. This one takes the augmented reality one step further as it can interact with the crowd.

Apparently, Forever 21 wanted to make a very memorable impression on the viewer by having this giant model take pictures of the crowd, and then have it develop into a realtime picture. She can also pluck people from the crowd, put them under her hat, put them in her purse, or she might just flick them away. I have a video after the jump.

You will notice all the tourists around this billboard taking pictures with their cell phone cameras. I am assuming that this the idea. After all, you can see in this video here that Times Square is flooded with video screens, billboards, and other assorted neon. That Forever 21 billboard/video screen sure stands out. I must admit that I never heard of Forever 21 now, but that billboard has certainly made a good impression.

That leaves the score of advertisers: one, and consumer, stunned.

The Ecotones Sleep Sound Machine

Posted: 28 Jun 2010 03:47 PM PDT

Sleeping doesn’t always come naturally to all of us as well as it does the rest of the world.  For those of you that just can’t seem to shut down, you could probably use a little help.  You may have already gone as far as to try pills and now know the side effects that get involved with all of that.  Instead of going that route you could pick up the Ecotones Duet Sleep Sound Machine.  It’ll help you get some sleep without paying for pills.

It offers 10 natural sound recordings that attempt to seem as realistic and natural in your sleep environment as possible.  Although they don’t state what all of those recordings include.  It also offers 3 richness settings that’ll control a broad range of additional sounds.  It also has a sleep timer and adaptive as well as manual operating modes.  You can purchase this one in black for $111.66 through Amazon.

Ziotek Glowing End Power Strip Liberator

Posted: 28 Jun 2010 03:28 PM PDT

I have never needed to unplug and replug things in so often that I require a light up connector to help me find the plug and power strip.  However, if you’re often underneath your desk and seem to lose cords, this might make your life a little more simple.  Plus you’ll have a bit of a night light for those dark corners.

The light will also let you know when the sockets have power.  Which means when you’re turning out lights for the night, that glow in the corner will remind you that you still have things that need shut off.  It just all depends on how you want to use the Power Strip Liberator.  You can purchase these in a 3-pack for $14.99 through CyberGuys.

Oscar the Bionic Cat

Posted: 28 Jun 2010 03:12 PM PDT

Oscar is a New Jersey cat who recently suffered an accident. A combine harvester ran over him while he was napping, and his two back legs were severed.

Fortunately, there is bionics. Noel Fitzpatrick, a vet from Surrey, England, realized that Oscar was the perfect candidate for new procedure.

I have a video after the jump so you can see the cat for yourself, and it shows that the metal rods in Oscar’s back paws have bonded with his skin. The body doesn’t seem to be rejecting them.

The video shows Oscar on these intrasseous trascutaneous amputation prosthetics (ITAPs). You can see that he looks a little awkward on his bionic feet. He will apparently get more realistic feet before too long.

Okay, this is about time for me to make Six Million Dollar Cat jokes. Here’s one that might not come off well on paper. You know that sound the Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman used to make when they used their bionic powers? You know, when they were moving in slowmo which indicated that they were moving really, really fast?

Just picture Oscar jumping while making that sound. Only the sound is a cat’s angry hiss, like Fft-fft-fft-fft and then jumping over a building or something. It’s hysterical if you get it.

TARDIS MAME Console

Posted: 28 Jun 2010 10:15 AM PDT

Are you a huge fan of the Dr. Who series? Then you will probably find the TARDIS MAME Console to be worth looking into, where it was custom built from scratch to fit a MAME console within. It can be closed when not in use, and will naturally need to be opened up if you want to get some arcade action going on. Over here at Coolest Gadgets, we won’t support the illegal use of ROMs, but this could very well tempt many of you out there to start on an illegal ROM downloading spree just to make full use of such a geeky looking console.

Pool Jet lets you go underwater with little effort

Posted: 28 Jun 2010 09:52 AM PDT

Check out the £84.99 Pool Jet that lets you make your way across the pool without much effort from you, as all you need to do is grab hold of it and you’re good to go. This is more or less the lesser sibling of the Sea Scooter, and since it is pool-based, you won’t have to worry about making your way to the mouths of other dangerous sea creatures. It has enough juice to last for up to 20 minutes of constant use, and don’t worry about the safety of your child using this since it will require the pressing of two buttons to keep it going, so if one hand happens to slip off the button, the Pool Jet will stop jus about immediately. The rule of diminishing returns applies here as usual, since a charging time of approximately 4.5 hours yields the aforementioned 20-minute of swim time. At least you can make summer more fun for the little ones in your home pool with this, eh?
