BluCan Bluetooth Vibration Speaker and Speakerphone from GiiNii Posted: 11 Jan 2012 09:30 AM PST GiiNii, makers of the AudioBulb, had a new product on display at CES with the BluCan. The BluCan is a Bluetooth speaker that is a little smaller than a can of soda. What you can’t see in this picture is that one twist will cause it to elongate so it is taller. The BluCan can seamlessly pair with Bluetooth enabled devices, in order to play your music off the headphones and on the go. When it is resting on a flat, solid surface, it becomes a 360 speaker capable of good range. Of course, there are a lot of speakers that can do that. The BluCan has an integrated speaker, so you can actually use it as a phone when it is wirelessly connected. By the way, the Blucan has controls for play, pause, track forward, track backward, as well as answer, volume, and hang-up. So if your phone is charging across the room, you can still have the power of your speaker. I’m not certain when the BluCan is due out, but it will be sometime this year. I also don’t have a price either. By the way, GiiNii also announced that the AudioBulb will be in a smaller size, in case you wanted to know. Lenovo Yoga Ultrabook and Tablet Posted: 11 Jan 2012 09:15 AM PST While at CES, I got a chance to check out one of Lenovo’s newest products, the Yoga. I can only assume that it was given this name because of all the positions it can bend in. The Yoga has a unique swivel hinge that can allow the keyboard to swing all the way around. It can also form a “tent mode” which will flip over the screen, which will be excellent for presentations. And you thought the ASUS Aspire S5 was the coolest ultrabook that was revealed at CES this year! As you might be able to tell from the photo, the Yoga will be running Windows 8. The company did not know how much that will affect the Yoga, but they are preparing for it. Since it has a touchscreen, the user can access the Yoga like a tablet, and the keyboard will be disabled while in this position. By the way, the touchscreen has 10 point multitouch capacity. The rest of the specs look very interesting. The screen is 13.3 inches with a resolution of 1600 x 900. When folded, it is at 0.67 inches thick and weighs in at 3.1 pounds. You should be able to purchase the Lenovo Yoga in the second half of Q2 for a price of about $1,199. Fisher-Price gets into the Portable DVR act Posted: 11 Jan 2012 09:00 AM PST I’m sure that we all associate Fisher-Price with hard plastic toys, but at CES, they have now shifted into a different market with their Kid-Tough Portable DVR. The Kid-Tough Portable DVR comes with a base unit that connects with the television, and serves as a charging cradle. It can then record your children’s favorite shows, provided you leave the television on that channel. Just to let you know, you can program it 24 hours before the broadcast. It can accommodate about 2 hours of content, with additional memory via micro SD card slot. It can accommodate about 4-6 hours worth of playing time. Unfortunately, you cannot watch a program saved on the SD card from any other device except the Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Portable DVR (it’s a copyright issue). Don’t expect this to be a TiVo, as it is designed for children. As a parent of three, it is really designed to be a lifesaver for long trips, just to insure that a young child is not bored. As the name implies, it is quite tough. Kids will also love the 3.5 inch touch-screen interface. Expect to see Fisher-Price’s Kid-Tough Portable DVR this summer, in colors of pink or blue. I don’t have a price point as yet. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. [ Fisher-Price gets into the Portable DVR act copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] Related Posts: |
i’m Watch smart time piece looks decent enough Posted: 11 Jan 2012 05:30 AM PST How many of us wear a smart watch to go alongside a smartphone? Granted, the smart watch market is not exactly a growing and vibrant one, but that does not mean nothing cool is made available from time to time. Check out the i’m Watch timepiece from Italy that has the aesthetics to go along with the hardware. While being nearly the same size as that of the iPod nano, it comes with a curved glass display and even better is the fact that depending on how deep your pockets are, you are able to get it in just about any material you like, ranging from aluminum to gold to carbon. Of course, I do not think enriched uranium is part of the equation here. Android 1.6 (how primitive, but it is all that is required) will be the operating system of choice, where the i’m Watch will feature music-playback capability, Twitter and Facebook clients, weather reports, access to an app store and Bluetooth connectivity for use with your smartphone. The touchscreen works as it is supposed to be, but otherwise, nothing else helps it stand out from the crowd. I guess you can say that luxury is the main selling point of the i’m Watch, with basic models starting from $299 upwards, depending on your material of choice. T-Mobile announces Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G Posted: 11 Jan 2012 05:00 AM PST T-Mobile has just announced another smartphone that will be made available to the masses – the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G. This is another handset that will fall under T-Mobile's range of 4G devices, the third actually, where the Galaxy S Blaze 4G will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor that runs on dual-cores at 1.5GHz. Not only that, your eyes will also appreciate the brilliant Super AMOLED touch screen display alongside a host of pre-loaded entertainment to help you get started right out of the box. No idea on pricing, but we do know that the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is being prepared for a release slightly down the road. Patience, my friend, is the key to unlocking its promise. I would suppose it runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, although whether an Ice Cream Sandwich update is coming down the road or not remains to be seen. Andrew Sherrard, senior vice president, marketing, T-Mobile USA, has this to say, "Consumers want the accessibility and entertainment capabilities that smartphones offer, and we're committed to providing a range of 4G device options. The Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is the latest smartphone that enables consumers to unlock the full potential of T-Mobile's faster 4G network. With a compelling set of entertainment features, paired with our Unlimited Value and Monthly4G plans, we're continuing to make it easy and affordable for consumers to experience the benefits of 4G." Razer Project Fiona PC Gaming Tablet Posted: 11 Jan 2012 04:30 AM PST Razer takes on the portable gaming market yet again with another device that is sure to generate a whole lot of interest this CES – their Project Fiona PC Gaming Tablet. This particular concept is still in the prototype stage, so you will find many of the specifications being under wraps, just like how the Razer Switchblade was treated at last year’s edition of CES as well. Project Fiona will wave away casual gamers, considering how it packs enough firepower to handle the most popular PC games of today without missing a beat, sporting an intuitive control setup that we will look at in greater detail after the jump. For starters, Razer has collaborated closely Intel to harness the power of its third generation Intel Core i7 processor, making it more like a fully functioning PC, despite being wilfully “trapped” in a tablet form factor that is now familiar to most folks. To make sure that developers need not do any extra work, the Project Fiona was designed in such a way where games on the PC can run natively on it as well, so there is no need to port, optimize, or start development from scratch. Forget about playing casual games with Project Fiona – it was not cut out by Razer (I see what you did there) to do so, as something more serious is in store. It would be a waste to see such a beauty run Angry Birds, don’t you think so? Razer's multi-award winning user interface and ergonomics team have come up with an all-new hybrid user interface scheme for Project Fiona, ditching the mouse and keyboard combination that most of us have come to know and love. And you know what? It does seem as though Razer might just be able to pull it off, integrating a couple of game controllers with ultra-precise analog sticks, letting gamepad-enabled PC games run right out of the box. The use of ultra-precise accelerometers and a highly sensitive multi-touch screen adds to the Project Fiona’s playability value. While the Project Fiona is not due to be released until the end of the year, we do know that current-generation PC games are already able to run on the tablet concept. I guess you can more or less claim that Project Fiona is the first and only tablet that was designed to run PC-quality games, and it has an estimated price point of less than $1,000, making me wonder whether getting an Ultrabook might be a better idea. What do you think? Conference Calendar – The global conference and expo finder. [ Razer Project Fiona PC Gaming Tablet copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] Related Posts: |
