TEXTAURANT – “Wait online, not in line.”

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 06:59 AM PST

I have to be honest, I love living in New York City, everything about it. Okay, almost everything about it. I admit that trying to grab a table at my favorite restaurant on a Saturday night without *gasp* a reservation is a bit nerve racking, you know, the never ending standing around while watching other people eat, the silent deals you make in your head if the people at the tables will just shut up and pay their bill already.

So isn't it great that coming soon, to a restaurant near you, is Textaurant, a new software that lets you wait anywhere you want to. Instead of walking around with your giant flashing pager within the confines of the restaurant where you wish to dine, you check out the restaurant online, see their wait times and enter yourself into the queue from where ever you are, and then you proceed to wait, however and wherever you would like. When your table is ready, you receive a free alert on your mobile device. It's that simple. It certainly seem like a win-win for both patrons and the restaurant owners. The developers of the project have also left an avenue for guests to receive special offers or discounts if they would like them.

Sign up for news and added locations. It may not be in your area yet, but if you live in the US I'm sure you'll have it soon. Anyone feel like Thai?

Wild Planet Toys presents Hyper Dash Extreme

Posted: 17 Nov 2010 06:58 PM PST

About three years ago, I reported on the Hyper Dash game from Wild Planet, and it has received an “extreme update”.

Hyper Dash is a simple game that is designed for children of all ages. The game unit is battery powered to give the player vocal commands on what thing to smash. Its game unit has special sensors so it knows what it is smashing.

The difference between Hyper Dash and the Extreme version is that the former version had discs to smash, while the Extreme version has these dumbbell shaped ones. As you smash one, it stores it in the game unit. Smash another, and the one that you smashed before shoots out. I suppose this is what makes it extreme.

The game can be played four ways. The first is Hyper Dash Extreme, which is about tagging the correct target as fast as possible. The second is quick dash, which is all about tagging all 5 targets in numerical order. Mathema-Dash is about solving addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems to “beat the clock”. The last is the Freestyle dash, which is about smashing as many targets as possible in any order.

All in all, it makes a great game for the kids, and an excellent gift for the younger ones on your holiday gift-giving list. You should be able to get it on the Wild Planet website for about $19.95.

Hands on with the Anti-Gravity Web Runner from Fantasma Toys

Posted: 17 Nov 2010 06:35 PM PST

I was fortunate enough to have Fantasma Toys send me the Anti-Gravity Web Runner, but I want to make certain that my wife and kids knew I had it.

Why? Have you ever seen a spider scurry across your floors, walls, or ceilings? Now imagine that spider about 10 times its normal size. I would hate to have my wife or kids have a panic attack at the sight of the big arachnid that you see in the photo.

The Web Runner is a remote control spider that can not only go across the floor, but up the walls and even on the ceiling with 360 degrees of motion. It does so with its own patented air suction technology. Its legs will move in a creepy way, and its eyes glow an eerie red.

It is powered by six AA batteries that are stored in the remote control, which has a tiny cable used to charge the spider. I found that on a full charge, the spider could climb up on a wall pretty well, but the more it was played with, it became weaker. It could only go down walls or stay still after that.

The Anti-Gravity runner is available at major retail outlets and the official website for about $39.99.

MXB Shocker, a two-wheeled motorized skateboard

Posted: 17 Nov 2010 06:13 PM PST

It seems like skateboarders are always finding a way to make their sport more extreme. Things like the Flowlab, which has fourteen wheels for easier turns.

Then there are motorized examples like the Vertrax skateboard with a tank tread and the Flyrad, which is a motorized unicycle combined with rollerblades.

Like the two aforementioned examples, the MXB Shocker that you see in the photo is electric powered. It is more of a dirtbike than it is a skateboard, as it has two wheels with some treads that can go over a lot of great terrain besides concrete and asphalt. You can watch a video of it after the jump.

The MXB Shocker has a 1,500-watt, 48-volt brushless electric-powered motor which is capable of 5 pounds per foot of torque at around 43 amps. This motor can recharge in two hours, and can propel the board at over 35 miles per hour.

Judging from the photo, it looks like it only has front-wheel drive. Or is it rear-drive drive? You will note the wired controls that looks like the handlebar of a motorcycle, presumably to control speed and brakes.

Granted, this is a high price to pay for this amount of fun, as the MXB Shocker motocross board costs about $2999.
