LovePlus on Nintendo 3DS uses facial recognition to prevent virtual girlfriend “cheating”

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 03:35 PM PST

We have reported on Nintendo game for the DS known as Love Plus before. For example, there was that town of Atami where players could spend time with their virtual Love Plus girlfriends.

Love Plus is very interesting subject matter, as a virtual girlfriend has got to be the most relational form of technology that there is right now. It definitely brings up the subject of whether or not technology has gone too far.

There will be a Love Plus to come to the Nintendo 3DS, and I would imagine that it would be good for certain effects, and will also have some facial recognition as well. The facial recognition will have a “boyfriend lock” so that the game knows its true player, which will prevent any virtual cheating. This basically will not allow another person to use the Love Plus user’s 3DS, or else the virtual girlfriend will ask “who are you”?

Will this be applied so the user remains virtually monogamous? I can see a real twist happening here if the virtual girlfriend actually cheats on the user. Oh man, that is getting into some really weird virtual love triangle stuff there.

I suppose that Love Plus is a Japanese-exclusive game, unless the 3DS version intends to make a trip west.

Ring Socket Power Plug

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 02:57 PM PST

I’m sure that all of us are or at least should be trying to conserve power as much as possible. I’ve discovered how easy it is to save a few bucks every month by unplugging my television and computer before I go to sleep.

This Ring Socket product is another way of conserving power by having the user set a pre-determined hour when the power goes off.

All the user needs to do is wind back a huge ring, and then the socket will shut itself off a a determined time. This will hopefully result in lower power bills.

There is an LED to form an indicator light that has an odd setup. The yellow LED means that it is in use, green is for standby, but the red is a warning as it indicates the socket is overloaded.

I got to admit, I like the way this thing is set up. Its wind-up timer is such a retro thing that really was simplified technology. After all, what is easier, setting your cellular phone for an alarm in 30 minutes or turning the crank on an egg-timer? I know which one takes less time.

Right now, this particular design is still in concept mode, but I’m sure it could easily be made into reality, as there is sure a need of such an energy saving device.

Swim faster with the Corsuit

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 02:22 PM PST

What you are looking at is the Corsuit, and it is designed to increase speed in swimming.

Granted, I am not certain why you need speed in swimming, because certain swimming racing suits have been banned from international competitions. I think they were ruled as giving competitors an unfair advantage.

The Corsuit was created by Sam James, and it is a simple plastic board that can force the back into a straight line. If you can remember back from your earliest swimming lessons, keeping your back straight is essential in getting superior speed from your limbs.

Speaking of swimming lessons, I’m wondering if the Conduit couldn’t be used as some sort of flotation device to help out those who don’t know how to swim just yet.

As I have said before, I see no reason to become a faster swimmer unless it is for a race. However, the point of a race is to propel a human being to the limits of natural endurance, not to find some sort of gadget designed specifically to make it to the finish line first. However, if someone is trying to swim the English Channel, I wouldn’t mind if they wore this.

This is still in the concept for now, but the creator as well as the Design Institute of Austrailia will enter it into the James Dyson Award next year.

The Clamcase – Bringing your iPad to the next level

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 07:45 AM PST

Okay, I finally have it. The coolest thing to happen to your iPad since, well, the iPad. I have been enjoying all the cases and apps and keyboards entering the market, but I haven't fallen in love… until now.

Enter the Clamcase, lightweight and completely portable, it changes your iPad into one serious machine. Send e-mails, manage data, make notes or surf the net all with the convenience of a netbook. But don't stop there, the Clamcase can also be used as an iPad stand, perfect for movies or presentations, the keyboard folds in on itself allowing your iPad to stand alone.

Clamcase uses a patented hinge that allows your iPad to be used as a netbook, an entertainment unit, a presentation venue, an e-reader and wait for it, a plain old iPad, because the special hinge even allows the keyboard to be folded flat against the back of your device, leaving you with a simple iPad in a case.

So to recap, the Clamcase is protection, a full qwerty keyboard and a stand all in one, and it looks good too. How great is that?

Made of durable high grade PC-ABS plastic, with shock absorption pads for safety and a quick attach and release mechanism for your iPad, the Clamcase is one awesome little accessory.

You can order one now for $119.00, shipping January 2011 from  www.clamcase.com

XWave – What are you thinking?

Posted: 27 Dec 2010 08:44 PM PST

The cool thing to have a while back was the Mindflex Game, I was aware of the technology behind it well before we got one for my daughter. I loved the idea of it. It was entertaining, but not as much as I had hoped. Maybe because she was so much better at it than we were.

I am about to get another try however, PLX Devices is bringing us the XWave, what they are calling a "mind interface for iPhone." (or for the Touch or iPad for that matter) By detecting your brain’s rhythm through a tiny sensor placed on your forehead via the XWave headset, you will open a window into your mind.

XWave can sense your attention and meditation levels and you will be able to control and float objects in upcoming games by simply thinking about it, or much like biofeedback, train your mind to focus and relax on command.

With free 3rd party applications ranging from a beginners brainwave visualizer to a social musical brainwave compatibility app and the informative meditation timer, the list of apps is growing, and available on iTunes, one only has to purchase the XWave headset to start playing with their minds.

I'm still waiting for the app that's going to show the movie of what I'm thinking… of course, that's not always going to be a good thing, now is it?

Purchase the XWave headset for $99.00 from  www.plxwave.com
