Better Rest While Traveling

Ahhhh the joys of travel. Vacation trips are certainly worth the hassle of getting there and back. Work trips – not so much. Any experienced traveler knows that keeping yourself comfortable and relaxed during the transit process is key. Comfortable clothes help. Maybe you enjoy having your tunes or movies pumping into your ears. If you intend to sleep, prevent the "35,000 foot head bob" as I like to call it, that boomerang type action that you subconsciously undertake when letting your head relax to one side or another. It is amazing more travelers don't end up with whiplash when attempting to correct the head bob. Maybe you have a travel pillow – you know, those C shaped things – which helps, but the weight of your head still cranes your neck in directions that really can’t be good for us.

Some smart and apparently experienced travelers have a different approach to traveling sleep comfort. Meet The Travel Halo™. Rather than providing a soft place for your head, the focus is on providing head stability. This device contains a small pillow on each side towards the back. These cushions cradle your head, preventing the rolling from side to side. Continue to use the seat headrest for support – unlike with C pillows which push your head forward. The Travel Halo contains an eye mask too. Pull it down when you really want to block out the world or simply use the headband portion to stabilize your head. Easy to store and super compact, this 2.5 ounce gadget won't weigh you down either – key for veteran travelers. If getting rest on a flight, train ride or car ride becomes critical to your daily duties then keep your head in the right position and invest $29 in The Travel Halo. Your head will thank you.

Thanks: Peter Greenberg

Silicone to Save the Chef's Day

I just learned some quick facts about silicone. It withstands heat of up to 500°. It is virtually resistant to oxygen, ozone and UV light. It can be created to conduct electricity. Microbes cannot grow on silicone. Thanks Wikipedia. After understanding factoids like that I get why silicone has become a go-to product for kitchen tools. We found a few on Solutions.com that make all the sense in the world.

One of the ongoing debates about plastic bags and plastic food containers is the toxicity of them when heated and their effectiveness as food cooking devices. Knowing what I now know about silicone I say every pro and amateur chef should invest in one or more Silicone Cooking Bags. Available for $19.98, these eco-friendly containers hold about 4.5 cups of liquid or food. The sliding lock gives you a leakproof seal. Then pop it in the microwave, hot water or freezer. It can handle both extremes. And once you are done drop it in the dishwasher for easy cleanup.  Another silicone savior is the $24.98 roasting laurel. If you have ever cooked a turkey you know that quest of getting air underneath it. Roasting pans work, otherwise you have to build that pile of vegetables to create some space. Or if you try to bake stuffed vegetables and keep them upright in the process you probably have a need for this device. And obviously it is easy to store and can be put in the dishwasher. I say, yeah for silicone!

Bird Box Radio and MP3 Speaker

If you happen to have a sizeable yard (whether it is at the back or in front, that does not matter), surely it would look a whole lot better with a carefully manicured lawn and some trees growing out of it, providing a decent amount of shade from the heat of the scorching sun. Where there are trees, you can be sure that life will be attracted to it, such as creepy crawlies that turn the soil to make it more fertile, and of course, them birds who you love or hate (the latter tend to be folks whose freshly washed cars were parked under a tree). Well, the chirping of birds will surely bring about a smile to anyone's face, no matter how gloomy it was in the beginning, but what happens when you take the idea of a bird box and add some technology into it? You end up with the £19.99 Bird Box Radio and MP3 Speaker, that's what.

The Bird Box Radio and MP3 Speaker is pretty much self-explanatory, where it is shaped like an FM radio, sporting a retractable aerial as well as a headphone jack that allows you to plug in an MP3 or portable media player, and play back your own tunes out loud. The radio itself will come with multi-colored lights which illuminate and flash whenever music is played, resulting in a disco atmosphere. Being eco-friendly, it is made from cardboard so that you can recycle it when the product reaches the end of its life. It is powered by a quartet of AA batteries.

World's Smallest Automatic Umbrella

For those who have lived in London, you know just how wet it can be most of the year, and an umbrella should not be too far away from your reach. As for the rest of us who live in areas where there are rainy seasons, an umbrella is normally stashed away in the boot of our vehicle, just in case the heavens decide to pour, you know. Well, having said that, it goes without saying that in this day and age, space is always a premium, whether it is at home, at the office, or in the car, which is why the $29.95 World’s Smallest Automatic Umbrella makes plenty of sense when you think about it.

The World’s Smallest Automatic Umbrella can be carried around inconspicuously in a purse or trouser pocket, and has been touted to be the smallest umbrella available which opens and closes with a single push of a button. It measures a mere 8″ in length when closed, but when you deploy it via a button press, this "tiny terror" will be generous in nature with a 40″ diameter canopy to provide you the relevant shade and protection from the elements. When the skies start to clear up, all it takes is a second press of the button, and the entire canopy will collapse.

Huawei Ascend P2 announced

So, you are in the market for a new Android-powered smartphone, but with so many makes and models to choose from, just which model would you want to settle for? Well, here is another that will not make your choice easier, but rather, add to your selection headache as Huawei has just announced the Huawei Ascend P2 officially at Mobile World Congress which is currently happening in Barcelona, Spain. Huawei is so bold as to claim the Huawei Ascend P2 to be the "world's fastest smartphone", with the basis of that claim being a quad-core 1.5GHz processor. Now, I am quite sure that many other smartphone manufacturers too, have something to say about that particular claim, but I will leave the bickering to the industry. Let us check out what else the Huawei Ascend P2 carries underneath the hood.

For starters, the Huawei Ascend P2 is said to feature a 8.4mm slim chassis that has an infinity edge 4.7-inch IPS HD in-cell touch display alongside second-generation Corning Gorilla Glass, coming in either black or white shades. There is no word on when it will arrive Stateside, but we do know that the Huawei Ascend P2 will hit France first via mobile carrier Orange this coming June, with other (yet unnamed) countries to also be on the receiving end before the second quarter of the year is over. It is said to be priced at around 399 Euros unlocked, so expect it to be a whole lot more affordable when it comes on contract with a carrier. This particular model will not carry a Full HD display, so we cannot place this on the same platform as that of other high-end models.

As for the user interface, on top of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, we will also see Huawei's very own Emotion UI 1.5. A 2,420 mAh battery will keep the momentum going throughout the day, and connectivity options will include Wi-Fi and NFC, turning the Huawei Ascend P2 into some sort of mobile wallet as and when the situation calls for it.

HP Slate7 adds Android-powered tablet to portfolio of products

When we talk about tablets, normally a name like HP would not rank high in the list, and heck, for most of us, we would not even consider this to be a company that cranks out tablets from their production line. In fact, their previous experience with the tablet proved to be disastrous at best, with the HP Touchpad that was powered by the webOS platform, and it was duly discontinued shortly after being announced officially. In fact, the webOS-powered HP Touchpad has more or less ended up as a hobbyist's tool, being used to port over different kinds of operating systems for fun. Having said that, HP hopes that it is not a case of "once bitten, twice shy" with their latest foray into the tablet market in the form of the HP Slate7.

The HP Slate7 will run on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, and it will not be too harsh on your bank balance either, with a recommended retail price of just $169 that ought to give tablets in the entry-level to mid-range markets more than a run for their money. The 7-inch screen is said to offer wide viewing angles which provide easy viewing of documents, games, photos and videos, even when you are outdoors where lighting conditions are normally not conducive for such devices. I guess we will just have to wait and see whether it works as advertised.

Crammed into its 13 ounce stainless steel chassis that comes in soft black paint and gray or red at the back would be embedded Beats Audio, a first of its kind for a tablet, in addition to an ARM dual-core Cortex-A9 1.6GHz processor, a 3-megapixel camera located at the back and a VGA camera in front. Of course, since this is an Android-powered tablet do expect it to be able to access Google Play and all within, in addition to services such as Google Now, Google Search, Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive and Google+ Hangouts. The HP Slate7 is tipped to arrive in the US this April for $169 a pop.
