HumanCar can go 60 mph with just human power Posted: 20 Aug 2010 05:24 PM PDT
It is designed by Charles Greenwood, and it made by the user “rowing” to go forward, and it also has a back-up electric battery. Somehow, this allows the driver to reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. There is a video of this after the jump if you want to see this row-powered vehicle in action. I suppose that we have all wanted the human powered car since we saw Fred use one on The Flintstones. I suppose it was just a matter of time before someone saw that arm power was better than the courtesy of Fred’s two feet. Just be grateful that you don’t have to brake with bare heels. I’m guessing that this is a lot like riding a bike, and I don’t really want to take this up hill. This vehicle does weigh in at 10,000 pounds. It will be available next year, but the inventor has already received approximately 100 pre-orders already. It also has an all-weather roof, and it apparently has a touch-screen display, as well as a GPS. So are we looking at an age where the HumanCar floods our streets? Well, perhaps not the freeways. I do like the idea of saving on gas. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. [ HumanCar can go 60 mph with just human power copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] Related Posts:

Running barefoot is the new trend? Posted: 20 Aug 2010 04:59 PM PDT
They look a lot like aqua-socks, except they have room for the toes in their design. Apparently, “running without shoes can strengthen your feet, ankles, and lower legs and improve balance”. Now we know why Frodo and Sam never wore any shoes. Apparently, they have been on celebrities like Matthew McConaughey, Channing Tatum, and Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George wears them for beach football. Also, the Vibram FiveFingers are so popular is having a difficult time keeping them in stock, and there are knock-off brands coming out of the woodwork. I suppose these are the shoes for those who really long for the experience of running barefoot. However, it isn’t for people who are just starting to run or returning from a long layoff, and you need to ease in slowly. There are those who think these five-toed shoes aren’t worth your time or money, and others that swear up and down by them. Right now, I would like to hear from our readers. If you have tried these five-toed shoes, and have either good or bad results, let us know. Also, can you answer me this question: can you stub your toe with these guys on? Steampunk Monorail is far more fun than a toy train Posted: 20 Aug 2010 03:26 PM PDT This little toy would be perfect for any kid or adult that is tired of the same old toy trains. Not only does this one have that steampunk feel that has become so popular, but it gives things an interesting edge by being a monorail. It’s still pretty much the same as navigating a toy train, but the look of this one is a whole lot more fun. This 550 piece set has all sorts of straightforward instructions to help kids figure out to construct all of those little pieces. The passenger car has all sorts of cogs, portholes, rivets and visible gears. The track can run as far as 20 looping fee over a 25′ sq area. The set comes with traction tape that’ll allow for the cars to climb up 30 degree grades. The Victorian Futurist’s Monorail is intended for kids 8 and up. It’ll require 4 AA batteries. You can purchase the set for $159.95 through Hammacher Schlemmer. Source: OhGizmo Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. Posted: 20 Aug 2010 03:00 PM PDT If you’ve been considering getting a more serious scale that gives you more information, this pretty pink scale would be a nice change from the bland colors you usually see. Of course, for those of you that prefer those neutral colors, this scale comes in those colors as well. In addition to being brightly colored it’ll also give you some extra info to help you figure out if you need to work harder at your weight or not. The Omron Body Fat Monitor Scale measures your Body Mass Index in seconds. It’ll give you a much more accurate analysis as to how you’re doing. After all, muscle weighs a whole lot more than fat, so some might not be doing as badly as they think. The scale is also capable of storing information for up to four users. There’s also a guest function so that anyone can hop onto it. This comes in chrome as well as steel versions. You can pick one up for $89.95. USB Submarine sadly isn’t yellow Posted: 20 Aug 2010 02:16 PM PDT We all have our random things that we love, if you’re big time into submarines, then this 3-in-1 gadget could be fun to have sitting directly on your desk. Of course it’s not yellow or anything catchy like that, but it will be more than happy to take care of a few of your gadget related needs. Plus to sweeten the deal, the small gadget is very affordable. This submarine is a USB hub for up to 5 of your USB gadgets, plus it is a card reader. To finish it off it also has Bluetooth. The small submarine sadly only comes in white, it doesn’t even have a black or silver version. However, it still could be great fun to have around. I just would be careful having it around small children or they might just decide to steal it from your desk in order to use it for some bath time fun. Luckily, it only costs $15, so it won’t cost much to replace. Source: GeekAlerts Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Beltone True invisible hearing instrument works sans wires Posted: 20 Aug 2010 12:12 PM PDT
The True works by enabling hearing-impaired users to comfortably converse with those nearby while retaining the ability to listen to music or watching their favorite TV program. Hmmm, doing both at once might not be recommended since you might lose your train of thought and be considered as having senility creeping in, but otherwise the True will be able to deliver excellent sound quality while doing away completely the embarrassing high-pitched whistling of hearing aids of old. Since it works differently from other wireless hearing instrument products in the market, it will not require you to wear a relay device around your neck that could end up being more cumbersome than imagined. Beltone True's wireless innovation comes in the form of its new integrated circuit. It is twice as fast and holds quadruple the memory, where it allows the circuit to make wireless connections to other devices without any audible delay. A remote control lets you adjust each hearing aid's volume independently, alongside its sound quality. Features include Direct TV Link, Direct Phone Link, Feedback Eraser and Speech Spotter Pro to get you started right out of the box.
