Your Best GolfBuddy

If you ever golf with a rage finder or GPS you know the inherent issues: where to leave it between shots, fishing it out of your pocket, seeing the screen, etc. Though they can be a hassle, most of us that use them won't give them up. Accurate course knowledge does make a difference in the final score.

The good folks at GolfBuddy offer a stellar line of full golf GPS units including their uuber Platinum unit. Yet for someone like me who is put off by the hassle of carrying or storing it between shots the bigger units don't pass muster. This is the exact reason why the GolfBuddy Voice, $128 at Amazon.com, looks to be my next golf friend.  Attach the gadget to your belt, hat, shirt or leave it in your pocket. As you push the button the buddy will tell you distance to front, center or back of the green. 40,000 courses from around the world are pre-loaded into the unit and no annual fee is required. Using GPS it automatically identifies course and hole – though it can be manually adjusted if needed. With a few more button pushes you can also set marks or measures for your shots.  So if you want to know yardage, but don't need the bulk of an extra device get a new buddy for the course!

21st Century Graffiti?

Stop. Before you read any further take a second to check out the names of wi-fi networks near you. You'll always get a few with no special name. But it seems our neighbors are getting more and more creative with network names. "Police" and "Don't Even Think About It" are a few of my personal favorites.

Addie Wagenknecht came up with a creative way to express ourselves through our network names. WiFi Tagger is essentially a hack for a TP-Link WR741ND router. Rather than broadcasting a single network name, the tagger enables up to 4 separate SSID/names  – each up to 32 characters.  If you have a compatible router visit here to load the app on your smartphone.  To change your networks name simply log onto your phone.

As Mark Wilson of FastCo Design says "Whereas spraypaint was the preferred tool in previous eras of snarky comments in public spaces, it's apps like WifiTagger and tricks like Glitchr…that may well be the voice of young rebels raised online." I agree and definitely think we are entering another generation of self-expression – WiFi Tagger being a perfect example. What do you suppose will be next?

Go Ahead, Submerge Them

How many pairs of earbuds do you go through in a year? If you are like me they get beat up, sweat on, tugged around.  Poor things. They have to perform though. Life is too short to buy cheap earbuds. Yet I'm hesitant to spend too much, knowing how I abuse them.

The audio gurus at Monster came up with a good solution to serve both needs. iSport Immersion in-ear headphones are built for abuse…and performance. A proprietary waterproof sealed housing protects the buds. How much? You can wash them! Yes, do not fret if your iSport Immersions end up in the laundry. So a little snow or ocean water won't ruin them. Cult of Mac provided the picture above and review, illustrating just how much water they can handle. Smartly enough there is a right angle jack to fit into any situation. The in-ear design with OmniTip™ swivel nozzle and their patented Sport Clip give a secure yet comfortable fit that won't fall out as you workout. Performance wise, expect all that Monster products offer including microstrand conductors, gold-plated contacts and isolating eartips. Hands free calling, multiple sizes of eartips and a protective pouch are also included. Sure, you pay a little more for performance – blue set at $79.99, yellow or black at $99.99 on Amazon.com. But if you tally up the amount you spend on earbuds and take into consideration these were made for active people – I think you will justify the price. If you like to stay active but can't survive without tunes give the Monster iSport Immersion series a go. I doubt you will be let down.

Dual-SIM iPhone Case

If you want to jive with a dual SIM phone and yet do not want to take a pick from the ugly designs out there from Samsung in particular, perhaps it is time to use your iPhone. Wait a minute here, you say, the iPhone does not come with a dual SIM carriage, so what on earth are you rambling about? Ah, this is where the cue for the £29.99 Dual-SIM iPhone Case comes in, where this particular iPhone case is special enough that it allows you to switch between either one of two SIM cards at the touch of a button.

Even better news is this – you are not required to install additional software on your iPhone in order to wield dual SIM cards. All you need to do is insert your SIM cards into the case, followed by clipping the case onto the iPhone 4/4S. This is a particularly brilliant design that lets you alternate between them using a mere switch flick. At least you need not tote around a couple of handsets, and you can choose to keep one number for work while the other is meant for leisure, hence allowing you to enjoy a work-free evening once the clock hits 5pm with a change of SIM cards.

USB Toaster Hub and Drives

I know that it is elections fever over here in the US, but if there was a vote opened up for the cutest and most adorable USB hub as well as USB flash drives in the market, chances are I would put my money on the USB Toaster Hub and Drives. You will be able to choose from four different USB flash drive designs of 4GB each – Butta, Crisp, Ry Ry and Tato at £12.99 a pop, while the USB Toaster Hub itself will retail for £17.99.

Heck, the USB Toaster Hub comes with an SD memory card slot to boot for expansion purposes, allowing you to transfer files about and to manage your data right on the spot. Nice to know that the individual USB 'toasts' come with their very own character and color, not forgetting to mention different facial expressions. It would be interesting to see how one is going to remember the kind of information stashed away on Tato, Butta, Ry Ry and Crisp. Too bad this is a USB 2.0 product, so it is not exactly future forward, but it will do for the majority of us out there.

Harman Kardon BTA 10 delivers new level of wireless music streaming

Bluetooth streaming hits new heights on just about any audio system thanks to a name that is normally associated with high end audio systems – Harman Kardon. I am referring to the Harman Kardon BTA 10, where all it takes is for you to plug the Harman Kardon BTA 10 into any analog device (never mind if it is a two-channel receiver that is three decades old or a tabletop dock), and you are good to stream music sans wires over Bluetooth from a smartphone, tablet, or other compatible Bluetooth-enabled device.

You can say that this is a particularly ingenious Bluetooth adapter, bringing a renewed sense of purpose to even old school technology. Audiophiles who own a traditional receiver that power a home entertainment center will definitely appreciate the Harman Kardon BTA 10 as much as the music lover down the road who prefers something more modern, streaming audio from a smartphone into a speaker dock. Heck, with the Harman Kardon BTA 10, you are able to stream music to any source with analog connections, all from up to eight different Bluetooth capable devices.

Not only that, the Harman Kardon BTA 10 is one lightweight puppy, where it tips the scales at just, while measuring a diminutive 2" x 2" – making it far more ideal to place in your pocket than the iPad mini. Sorry, I just could not resist taking a dig at Apple fanboys here. It does not matter if you are using a smartphone or tablet that runs on iOS, Android or Windows, the Harman Kardon BTA 10 is more than capable of meeting these devices in the middle and delivering the right kind of tunes wirelessly. Each purchase of the Harman Kardon BTA 10 will be accompanied by connection cables for both the standard RCA left/right jacks on conventional audio products and the 3.5mm input connections that are normally available on portable and desktop docking products.

I guess you can also say that the Harman Kardon BTA 10 is by far one of the more affordable devices that carry the Harman Kardon name at $59 a pop.

E FUN Premium 10SE tablet announced

Right now, the world of tablets is split down the middle by iOS and Android as the operating systems of choice, although Microsoft's recent dance with the tablet market thanks to Windows RT and Windows 8 have livened up the scene somewhat, with BlackBerry's PlayBook nowhere to be seen. Well, here is one new tablet that bats for the Android team thanks to the folks over at E FUN, with the Premium 10SE in tow. It will occupy the new iPad category in terms of screen size – that's about it, at 9.7", while carrying a five-finger multitouch capacitive color screen as well as the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

Apart from that, folks who love doing their reading on tablet devices will find the E FUN Premium 10SE to be an interesting addition to their gadget collection as it will come preloaded with the Barnes & Noble NOOK Store, GetJar App Store, CloudLink's "Productivity Toolbox" as well as a 14-day trial of Net Nanny parental controls software just in case you happen to have a little one at home and want to make sure that he or she does not stumble upon sites that underaged kids should not visit.

In terms of hardware specifications, the E FUN Premium 10SE is no speed demon, but then again, neither is it a slouch. It will run on a 1GHz processor coupled with 1GB RAM to deliver a decent level of performance, while carrying a resolution that is the same as that of the smaller iPad mini at 1024 x 768 pixels. A G-sensor auto-rotate orientation feature lets you enjoy landscape or portrait viewing on the go, and you can further expand upon its 8GB of internal memory via a USB port or a microSD memory card slot. Want to hook up to the Internet to watch videos, check your email or simply download system software updates? Not a problem with its built-in Wi-Fi connectivity.

Other details on the E FUN Premium 10SE include a front-facing camera and a 1080p high-definition video player. If you are interested in picking this puppy up, it will retail for $249.99 from Radio Shack and Hastings.
