A Calculator to Highlight Creativity

Every kid procrastinates when the command "finish your homework" comes down from a parent. They sit at their desk or table and try to focus on their work. But their mind seems to remind them of the fun they miss elsewhere while toiling in homework-land. Funny. Sometimes that same procrastination creeps into our adult worlds too. If you are one whose thoughts tend to wander away, you need this office gadget.

Get yourself (or your young homework do-er) a DIY Calculator for just $12.99 at Perpetual Kid. You start with a blank slate. I recommend at least putting indications on as to where you find the buttons so you can do your calculations. But beyond that get creative! Show off your personality. Maybe you have a troop of aliens watching your every result. Maybe 9 and X are in a conversation. Who knows. It is up to you. One thing is for sure. No one will lay claim to your work of art. And if the little ones decide to do their own maybe it will keep them smiling long enough to sit down and finish their homework.

Billiards Training Tool

Quick. Name your favorite bar game. Darts? Trivia? Foosball? I'm guessing pool or snooker will win out in most cases. Bars have to make serious revenue on drinks and games to let the tables occupy so much space. And billiards players take their games seriously. Don't mess with that person who has their coins waiting on the table. They may look harmless. But they are focused. And they end up running the table despite their innocent look. I think I found out how they practice.

If you are like me you have problems playing the bumpers. I never quite get the right point to ricochet the ball into a pocket. Three students from University of the Algarve in Portugal either have too much time on their hands or really do have a purpose in playing endless games of pool. They designed a device that tells you where to aim. The "PoolLiveAid" focuses on where the cue ball is then lays out where to aim, using a laser on the bed of the table. Basically they give you what you can get on a billiards video game. Obviously you wouldn't take the contraption into your local. But for practicing purposes it could really get your game up to snuff. The students are still testing the device, so don't anticipate it on the market anytime soon.

Asus Transformer AiO launched

The Asus Transformer AiO (All in One) has been touted to be the first all-in-one desktop PC which is capable of running not only Windows 8, but Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as well, in either desktop or tablet mode. Yeah, you read that right, Asus has taken off the kid's gloves this time around with the Transformer AiO which certainly ups the ante when it comes to a dual-booting device.

It is incredibly innovative of Asus to do so, rolling out the Transformer AiO which offers users the option of a tablet's mobility alongside the performance of a powerful desktop computer, all without having to compromise on design and functionality. The Transformer AiO is said to boast of a desktop PC Station that will feature 3rd generation Intel Core desktop processor technology which enables one to enjoy an outstanding Windows 8 performance, while the presence of a detachable 18.4-inch multi-touch display will carry NVIDIA's Tegra 3 quad-core processor so that you can have fun with an optimum Android 4.1 Jelly Bean user experience.

The good news does not end there, either, as this particular innovation will allow the tablet to run Windows 8 in Remote Desktop mode, clearly making this a first of its kind in the world since no All-in-One PC has ever managed to offer such flexibility, innovation or design before, making Asus lay claim to such an exclusive device.

When it comes to connectivity options, the Asus Transformer AiO will not come up short, as you get a quartet of USB 3.0 ports, something that even high end Ultrabooks lack, in addition to an HDMI out port for you to hook up a monitor for extended display options, while the 18.4-inch LED-backlit display will boast of 1080p HD resolution alongside a 10-point multi-touch and IPS technology, enabling it to deliver bright, vibrant images with 178-degree wide viewing angles. Expect the Asus Transformer AiO to arrive sometime in Q2 2013 in North America, where it ought to start from $1,299 onward.

Polycom SoundStation Connect announced

Polycom has just announced their SoundStation Connect, which is touted to deliver Polycom's legendary audio quality to not only desktop, but notebook-based meetings, regardless of where you are. The great world of teleconferencing, where a bunch of suits sit around a particular speaker/microphone combination as the other person(s) on the line will spark a multi-way conversation. Definitely brings back classic memories of days when there was no such thing as Skype for a multi-conference call, right? Well, Polycom is not one to dwell on past glories, hence there is a very good reason to release the SoundStation Connect.

For starters, the SoundStation Connect is said to be an audio conference solution which enables users to bring the gold standard in audio conferencing technology regardless of where they are. It will be able to be plugged straight into any laptop or desktop USB port, allowing users of soft-phone apps including Polycom RealPresence Desktop 2.0, Microsoft Lync or IBM Sametime experience HD-quality audio conferencing technology, letting you conduct small-group meetings whether you are at the office, at home or on the road.

Jim Kruger, Senior Vice President of Product and Solutions Marketing, Polycom, said, “Polycom SoundStation Connect lets customers take the legendary Polycom SoundStation audio conferencing experience anywhere they want to have voice or video meeting on their computer. SoundStation Connect is ideal for groups of people in small to midsize rooms such as salespeople and customers in a huddle room, patients and doctors in an office, or creative designers and ad experts in a brainstorm area. Polycom's best-in-class HD audio technology allows all of the meeting participants on the call to hear and be heard, making calls more productive."

Do expect to benefit in the form of clear conversations, an easy deployment, and a snap in transporting it with the SoundStation Connect from Polycom. Thing is, you cannot pick up the Polycom SoundStation Connect until sometime in the second quarter of the year for $299 each.

Levitron Lamp

You might not be the wise old man sitting at the top of an impossible-to-climb mountain, and neither are you a swami who sleeps on a bed of nails, but this does not mean you are unable to make things levitate. Thing is, you will first need to lighten your bank account by $150 before you are able to get hold of the Levitron Lamp which is light as air, and the middle bit of the lamp does seem as though it is "missing", hence leaving the top bit floating .

The Levitron Lamp is lit by half a dozen cool-white, high-intensity LEDs, where this illusionary lamp will blend both art with innovative technology into accent lighting. Definitely the way to leave a lasting impression, don't you think so? Thanks to the power of magnetism, this apparently gravity-defying “shade” of the lamp will remain suspended over an inch above its base, making it look as though it remains floating on a halo of light. Some assembly required, so you might want to enlist some help from your man to get it up and running.

LED Ampli-TIE gives you an electrifying appearance

Everyone wants to look their best, it is in our nature always to put our best foot forward. After all, who would like to play the role of a slacker? Nobody, really, unless one does not really care about what the world thinks of them. Well, here is a unique addition to your wardrobe, where it comes in the form of the LED Ampli-TIE which could very well be a DIY project. Basically, your average, boring looking necktie can now be transformed, given a new lease of life as you light it up like a VU meter.

The LED Ampli-TIE will rely on the Electret Microphone Amplifier to that will then trigger 16 Flora NeoPixels which has been sewn using conductive thread along the entire length of the tie in order for it to work. Of course, if you are going to embark on this project on your own, you would definitely need to have a fair amount of DIY knowledge, especially when it comes to Flora, the Adafruit Microphone Amplifier Breakout, and conductive thread among others. Since there are electric bits and pieces all over, should you find a need to wash your LED Ampli-TIE after spilling some curry or wine on it, make sure you remove the battery and perform a gentle spot clean, as water should be refrained from getting into the microphone.
