Coolest Gadgets Goes Tailgating

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 10:29 AM PDT

Football season is here! College kicked off, NFL follows suit this week. And you need to ensure that you are properly prepared for tailgating. So whether in the stadium parking lot  or in your own driveway get your gadget on with these football must haves.

You Grill, iGrill®, We All Grill

You are dubbed the grill master at this week's game. Bummer, now you must remain near the grill, keeping a constant eye on the burgers and dogs. Sort of ruins the afternoon. Why let it interfere with playing touch football or chatting up that cute blonde? Let iGrill be your sous chef.

iGrill by iDevice, provides a dual probe, easy to read thermometer. This durable tailgate must can be used as a stand-alone device. But if that isn't enough then download the iGrill app from the iTunes store. Using Bluetooth the iGrill can then communicate with your app and clue you in when your meat is ready. With a 200 foot range there is plenty of room to escape the grill but not overcook the protein. Alert yourself when a temperature or time is reached. The app includes multiple views to cover each probe, and even recipes. Via Amazon, the $79.95 investment seems small in comparison to the amount of meat you could burn without this gauge.

Hone Your Bartending Knowledge

Tailgaters and tailgate parties are always on a quest for the drink of the day. This handy deck of coasters will keep you and your bartender inspired. Cocktail Challenge provides a set of 30 mats with different cocktails. Drinks vary in difficulty, class, amount of alcohol and number of ingredients. Use them for inspiration. Or if your bar is fully stocked use it as a game. See who can create the tastiest, classiest (or most classless) concoction. For just £7.50 at Suck UK, they provide easy inspiration for your cocktail of the day or to pose a challenge to any novice bartender.

Ultimate Beer Pong Set

Sure you may have a classic beer pong table with your team's logo emblazoned on it for your tailgate parties. But do you have the proper gaming equipment? Face it, a long game of beer pong makes for warm beer on a warm afternoon. Yuck. The N-Ice Rack Freezable Beer Pong Rack Set is the perfect companion to your beer pong table. Included are two fillable and sealable racks. Fill the racks with water, freeze and you are armed for the day. The glasses you place on it will have a nice chill below them. Also included are 3 balls. And all of this is just $26.34 on Amazon. So don't forget to keep your penalty beers cold!

Tunes for the Tailgate

No tailgate party is complete without music. Whether socializing or throwing the football around, tunes help set the mood. But no one really wants to lug speakers around or find power.  And you certainly don't want to be outdone by the party next to you. So the best Portable Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Speaker provides a perfect solution. Not only will it put up with the elements, it will wirelessly play for 10 hours (3 hour charge). Using a 41 channel transmitter and radio band to find your signal source transmitter, it will never find interference from other devices.  The 480' range means you can leave your transmitter and music player in the car or your pocket. And the digital amplifier and down firing subwoofer will give you the best sound in the parking lot. Though $699.95, Hammacher Schlemmer's testing and backing confirm the quality sound and performance of the speaker. Rest assured, with this unit your tailgate will have the best tunes at the game.

What Happens to a Lost Phone

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 08:10 AM PDT

Ever lost your phone? Ever found someone else's phone? It is nerve-wracking to think of what could happen if your phone falls into a strangers hands. The information we keep on our phones often becomes more sensitive than details in our own wallets! And whereas we like to think that humankind will track you down if they find your phone, anything is possible.

To determine exactly what happens to a lost phone, a computer security firm recently set up and "lost" 50 smartphones in the US and Canada and tracked the actions taken on those phones. What they found is:

  • On 57% of the phones a file named "saved passwords" was accessed
  • 60% checked the owner's email or social media
  • 72% looked at photos
  • 43% attempted to use an app called "online banking"

Shocking to think what could happen! Using a couple simple steps you could avoid situations like above. Protect Your Bubble, insurer of gadgets and cell phones, recommends: complicated password that is changed frequently, security software on the phone and even contacting credit reporting agencies if your phone is stolen. Read the entire release here for more tips. And hold onto your phone!

Tablet Stand for All Uses

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 06:48 AM PDT

As our tablets become a bigger part of life we find ourselves using them everywhere. The desk, the kitchen counter, in bed, in the back yard, in the car. The list goes on and on. And a constant struggle exists with where the heck to set the thing. Doing the "balance the tablet on the stomach with legs bent to keep it upright while avoiding movement to prevent falling to the floor" game really takes away from any relaxation or productivity you attempt. And sure, there are plenty of stands that exist for specific reasons. But with our growing use of iPads, Kindles, Galaxy Tabs and the like, drawing the line on purchasing a stand for every use seems inevitable.

Meet the tablet stand for just about any function. The LapDawg O-Stand, $79 at Amazon, is a universal tablet stand designed to fit a variety of needs. The four bendable legs enable you to twist, kink or flex your stand – and therefore your tablet – into the perfect position. Put the legs upright, maneuver them around or even create a ‘claw’ to grab onto something. The legs are removable if needed and the neck is bendable for viewing adjustment too. If you have used any of the Joby Gorilla products then you understand the concept. The O-Stand is compatible with all iPad versions, Android tablets, Kindle, Sony eReader, Nook and Kobo.

Imagine the uses! How about a comfortable stand for that tablet while in bed? Or affix it to the headrest in the car so the kids can watch movies. Keep it simple and prop your pad up next to your computer. Take your pick. The O-Stand can handle it.

Cassette To iPod Converter

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 06:30 AM PDT

I am not quite sure just how many of you out there still carry your music around – no, let me rephrase, have a collection of music in cassette form since the humble cassette-based Sony Walkmans have all but died for a long, long time already (in technology's timeframe, time is relatively short). Well, assuming you have some old classics that have yet to make their way to the digital format even after you have spent years scouring the Internet for it (without any CDs available, either), there is some hope left.

You need not depend on Obi Wan Kenobi, but you can surely check out the $79.95 Cassette To iPod Converter which will be able to convert audio tape cassettes into MP3 files directly. Of course, this digitized format from an analog source would mean you will also get all the hisses and pops, but that is part of the package, and if you have a remote interest in cleaning up digital audio files, then you would not mind converting your entire cassette collection. All converted audio will be stashed away on the docked iPhone or iPod touch, as long as there is adequate storage space, that is. A couple of AA batteries power the Cassette To iPod Converter.

Doctor Who Tardis Smart Safe

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 06:00 AM PDT

There is no where safer to stash away some of your more private (and small) belongings in, wait for it – a safe. There should be enough space in most safes to keep a remnant of your most personal belongings, but with the £29.99 Doctor Who Tardis Smart Safe, the word "space" here is used with a dash of imagination. We are talking about breaking the very fabric of time and space, assuming the principles in the Doctor Who series are adhered to, meaning your precious items are stashed away in a complex, sentient machine that can travel through time as well as relative dimensions in space, now how about that?

Best of all is, you need not even be a true blue Time Lord, but rather, someone with 30 quid in your bank account. All you need to do is slot in a compatible smartphone into the Tardis Smart Safe, key in your very own PIN code, and it will unlock – boasting authentic opening sound and light effects to boot. This particular accessory is officially licensed by the BBC, and runs on a trio of AAA batteries. Only the iPhone or Android-powered handsets will play nice with it, Blackberry owners will have to find some corner and sulk.

Meb Keflezighi Edition Sony Walkman W Series arrive at Walmart stores next month

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 05:30 AM PDT

If you happen to be a frequent shopper at Walmart, and more or less know everything that America's superstore carries by heart, then you would notice that from next month onwards, there is a brand new version of the Sony Walkman W Series. I am referring to the Meb Keflezighi edition of this particular Walkman family, as it was developed in conjunction with Meb Keflezighi's 4th place finish in the recently concluded 2012 Olympic marathon. What's so special about the Meb Keflezighi edition Sony Walkman W Series? Read on to find out!

Meb Keflezighi is no doubt an American distance running hero, although he did not manage to pick up a medal at this year's Olympics, he did win silver at the 2004 Athens Olympics and ended up tops at the 2009 New York City Marathon. The Meb Keflezighi Edition Walkman W Series reflects his spirit, where it was also specially developed in order to invigorate his marathon training program in addition to catering for the regimens of runners as well as health and fitness enthusiasts worldwide.

This special edition of the Walkman W Series is a wire-free digital music player that was especially designed to make using it as convenient and comfortable as possible for the user, whether one is pounding the pavement, or hitting the treadmill at the local gym. It boasts of water-resistant technology that makes sure the buckets of sweat it encounters during your exercise session as well as intense weather conditions are shrugged off.

This digital music player comes with 2GB of storage space, and when you average that out, we are looking at around 470 songs, in addition to its availability in a special-edition orange model. Similar to the rest of the Walkman W Series, the Meb Keflezighi edition will be accompanied by Content Transfer software that enables users to drag and drop music files from iTunes for Windows, Windows Media Player or Windows Explorer (DRM free content only) in a snap. You can also charge it quickly, where three minutes of charge time translates to an hour of playback, while a full battery life delivers up to 8 hours of non-stop music.

The Meb Keflezighi Edition Walkman W Series will retail for $69.99 a pop if you are interested.
