The Thermador Freedom Induction Cooktop at CES Unveiled Posted: 09 Jan 2012 11:05 AM PST Last night, at CES Unveiled, I got a chance to see some very interesting products, and I am always on the lookout for ones with the most “neat” factor. Thermador showed me what the future of the kitchen range cookers will look like. Thermador’s new Cooktop uses induction technology for cooking. If you are not familiar with it, it uses magnets instead of a burner to heat what is inside of a pot. Their Freedom Induction Cooktop allows the user to place their pots anywhere on this surface, and the contents inside will be heated to boiling while the area around it will be cool to the touch. (By the way, this induction cooking will work on an uncovered pot, provided the pot is magnetic.) That alone was enough to sell me, but the company showed off a natural mapping user interface that can instantly recognize cookware size, shape, and position. It comes as a 6.5-inch full color touchscreen. I honestly believe that a system like this should be in every household. Not only is it safer, but it is also easier to clean. Considering that it already has a touchscreen, I see no reason why it can’t store recipes on that as well. Unfortunately, this system is pretty expensive as it costs $4,949. If you can afford it, it will be available in July 2012. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Monster Press Conference at CES 2012 Posted: 09 Jan 2012 10:43 AM PST I’m still reeling over the Acer Press Conference yesterday, and this morning, I decided to see what Monster was up to. Noel Lee, the “Head Monster” took the stage in his Segway and was quite good at inspiring the crowd. From there, it was guest speaker after guest speaker, announcing their 2012 product line. For example, the Monster Micro, a small Bluetooth speaker that is very customizable. Not only can the user switch out the grills and bases, but he or she can actually change the voice of the speaker. You know how most Bluetooth products have a very sterile human voice? The Micro has many accents and attitudes. Customizable seemed to be quite a theme as one of their newest headphones, the Inspiration, comes with a customizable headband that sticks on through the power of magnets. Monster had many models trying out headbands that were quite outrageous with feathers and all manner of colors and styles. They also introduced other headphones like the Gratitude, inspired the band Earth, Wind, and Fire. Founding member Verdine White was on deck for that one. Other headphones were developed in partnership with Nick Cannon. The NCredible line inclues the Nergy ($69), an In-Ear headphone that magnetically attaches in the back like a necklace, as well as the NTune ($129), some over-the-ear headphones. More headphones included the Diamond Tears (pictured right) and the Vektr, designed by fashion giant Diesel. Look for all of these Monster models and more this year, and if you want more information, click here. Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. Samsung Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor debuts at CES 2012 Posted: 09 Jan 2012 05:30 AM PST Las Vegas is the landing strip for many a gadget at CES 2012, and Samsung does not want to miss out on the party with their spanking new Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor which delivers industry leading design, technology and security in a single device. New parents might find it especially useful, while the older parents (or those who already have a few kids) will probably give a gander at this and go, “Meh!” while continuing their lives with their gut instinct (and experience, of course). Still, those who want to follow the adage that it is better to be safe that sorry might want to see what Samsung’s Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor brings to the table (or home, rather). This “third eye” of sorts might prove to be the ultimate solution in helping parents keep an eye out for their kids even when they are in a different room. Samsung wants to ensure that you have a pleasant experience right from the get go, by offering free apps for mobile platforms, including the Android and iOS operating systems, enabling parents to adoringly look at their little bundle of joy from the camera lens regardless of where they are – and using nearly all the common mobile devices that we tote around these days. Samsung is said to spare no quarter with the Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor by throwing in “the latest in wireless and IP technologies right in the palms of parents’ hands” in a manner that is simple and yet flexible. This IP-based camera will come with an effortless one-touch button that will seek out and automatically pair the device to a wireless home network in under half a minute without the need to install any software. You follow that up by register your camera with SamsungSmartCam.com, and from then on, you can view the person who matters to your from right in your home or anywhere in the world. Just make sure you have a decent Internet connection before doing so. There is no limit to how many cameras that you want to add to an account, and in order to help you keep things organized, you can register, label and view live footage from each using their own login. The Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor measures just 1.25″ thick and 3.15″ in diameter, and has a swiveling bracket so that you can mount the device to a wall. Non-visible infrared LEDs will pave the way for you to observe the latest addition to your family even in complete darkness, now how about that? Samsung will sell the Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor for $149 a pop as it hits the market this March, and it can even automatically record video (640×480 / 30fps / H.264) when motion or sound is detected. Posted: 09 Jan 2012 05:00 AM PST With so many tablets being released these days, what is your primary mode of interaction with the tablet? I would be so bold as to venture that the most of us use our fingers since that is the most intuitive and convenient. On a side note, I did hear from a friend of mine that if you happen to be walking in the favelas of Brazil, it would be best not to point at anything or anywhere, as it might just get you killed. Can anyone verify that? I digress, and for the more sophisticated among you, here is a stylus that you might want to get to use alongside your tablet – the E FUN APEN A5 stylus. It is said to be the key to unlocking your creative potential as you design, create, draw, write, sketch, and edit on the iPad without missing a beat. Being extremely natural to use, you are able to write or draw right from the get go without having to go through a steep learning curve or alter your writing habits. Student, educators, business professionals or creative artists should be able to find a use for the $99 E FUN APEN A5 stylus. There is a built-in battery that is said to be able to last up to 90 hours, so you won’t find yourself juicing this up too often. Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. Mobee Magic Feet inductive charging system Posted: 09 Jan 2012 04:30 AM PST Going wireless is obviously where we’re headed to, and this also applies to wireless charging capabilities of devices these days. Somehow or rather, wireless charging never really seemed to catch on, never mind that (the now defunct) Palm’s Touchstone charger did impress initially but never managed to capture the imagination of the masses. Well you know what they say – if at first you don’t succeed, try again. The Mobee Magic Feet inductive charging system does just that, where it will be able to juice up the batteries which send power to your Bluetooth keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad – wirelessly. Even better news is you do not need to remove them batteries in the first place. The Mobee Magic Feet can power up three accessories simultaneously, and since it comes with four USB 2.0 ports, this also functions as a USB hub. On its own when depleted, you will need half a dozen hours to power it, and the $149.90 asking price certainly is not too much to fork out for if you happen to live with a computing ecosystem that comprises devices from nobody else but Apple. LG Cinema Screen Design sports super thin bezel at 1mm Posted: 09 Jan 2012 04:00 AM PST CES 2012 will be the place where LG Electronics introduces their latest LG Cinema Screen Design that will see action in a range of new Cinema 3D Smart TVs that are headed your way this year. The bezel of this Cinema Screen has been reduced to a mere 1mm, resulting in a more optimal and comfortable environment especially for immersive 3D viewing. According to Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Home Entertainment Company, "The 3D experience is still evolving and we at LG intend to push the limits of what 3D can deliver. With our 2012 CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, we have been able to take a significant step forward, thanks to a series of new and upgraded 3D features led by the CINEMA SCREEN Design." A bezel of just 1mm is certainly something interesting to look at – if you can see it, that is, considering how slim it is. The removal of such physical obstructions will pave the way for a greater immersion of 3D effects, making you think back of how watching a 3D movie in the cinema felt like for the first time. LG will make sure their new Cinema Screen Design is accompanied by the new Cinema 3D glasses that are being slated for a 2012 release as well, where the latter will feature a trio of elegant-looking models that are 20% lighter compared to its predecessors, increasing the comfort level so that you can enjoy 3D movies longer than ever before. This kind of optimal setting is perfect for immersive 3D viewing, and when one applies the theory of 3D TV technology, Dual Play has been slated to be the suitable solution for an ultimate gaming experience. The introduction of LG's Dual Play function and the special Dual Play glasses will enable players to view two entirely different full images, compared to the traditional split screen display where you only have halve the screen to focus on. In addition to that, 3D Sound Zooming will generate audio output so that it will be synchronized with the location and movement of the various on-screen objects, enabling immersive sound to complement immersive visuals. Needless to say, the new Cinema 3D Smart TVs will be equipped with LG's Smart TV function that sports over 1,200 apps, while you are also able to enjoy premium content services like 3D World, immersing yourself in an abundance of 3D content – as long as you are willing to fork out the dough, that is.
