What Acer had to show off at CES 2012 Posted: 08 Jan 2012 03:22 PM PST Normally I don’t do my posts until Monday, but CES press conferences are starting early here in Las Vegas, so I wanted to make certain you had the latest news as fast as possible. This is from Acer’s Press Conferences, which ended about an hour ago to this writing. J.T. Wang, Chairman and CEO took the stage to annouce several products and services that Acer will be putting out this year. One of these products was the Aspire S5 (pictured), the world’s thinnest ultrabook at 15mm. It features Acer Always Connect, as well as Acer Green Instant On technology. Another cool feature was this MagicFlip I/O port panel that is concealed below the hinge. It is a way of keeping the HDMI, USB 3.0, and 20Gbps Thunderbolt port as thin as the ultrabook itself. Acer was also proud two other ultrabooks with the Timeline Ultra, in its 14-inch and 15-inch models. Like the S5, they have the Green Instant On feature as well as the Always Connect technology. They are pretty thin at 20mm, and each have a battery life of 8 hours. The company was also proud of what they are doing with AcerCloud. Their Always Connect technology allows users to access information on their PC from their smartphone or tablet, provided the PC is in sleep mode. It also helps for instant transfer of files, and it will come in three basic forms: clear.fi (for Photos), clear.fi (for Media, Music, and Video), and CloudDocs (for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Documents). The Aspire S5 should ship in Q2 2012, while the Timeline Ultra will start shipping in Q1 2012, but I do not have prices. AcerCloud should be bundled on all Acer’s consumer PCs starting in Q2 of 2012. Vuzix Corporation’s SMART Glasses Technology unveiled Posted: 08 Jan 2012 04:30 AM PST When it comes to viewing your favorite movies, there is nothing quite like getting up close and personal with the movie in question. After all, why do you think that people prefer to go to the cinemas? I am not only referring to the superb audio system that cinemas deliver, there is also the issue of having "in your face" images and moments of action that cannot be replicated on a small screen. Trust me on this, when you have watched movies in IMAX such as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, you would want to wish that most movies would be shot in IMAX after that. Vuzix knowns a thing or two about personal movie theaters, or rather, glasses that you wear where it projects an image size as though you were sitting a few get away from an 85" display. CES 2012 will see Vuzix Corporation introduce its SMART Glasses Technology. Features of the Vuzix SMART Glasses Technology include a built-in HD display engine as well as waveguide optics which will literally break the boundaries of conventional optics and display solutions. Head Mounted Displays tend to be bulky in size, but Vuzix intends to change that with the SMART Glasses Technology, where it will deliver a compact display engine that is full well capable of high contrast and brightness even for outdoor use. All output will be relayed into a 1.4 mm thin polymer waveguide lens with input and output hologram structures on the surface that will squeeze the light down the waveguide, followed by two dimensional expansion of the image back into the user's eye, so that the image created is mixed with that of the real world. And to think that this technology is capable of being stuffed into the temples and lenses of a conventional pair of eyewear! Vuzix intends to roll out monocular and binocular SMART Glasses for the commercial, industrial and consumer markets by the time fall 2012 rolls around. No idea on pricing though. AOC Aire Monitor with Docking Station Posted: 08 Jan 2012 04:00 AM PST iPod, iPhone and iPad docks are dime a dozen, but how many of your computers can actually feature a full-fledged docking system that caters for Apple's range of iOS-powered devices? AOC enters the fray just in time for CES 2012, unveiling the AOC Aire Monitor with Docking Station. Touted to be the ultimate monitor for iPod and iPhone owners, it will offer a 23" Full High Definition monitor that boasts an integrated universal docking station for the iPhone and iPod which will pave the way for immediate video, audio and photo playback. Using AOC's patented plug-and-play technology, the integrated dock coupled with the base of the monitor will also boast built-in speakers with high quality SRS Premium Sound. Also known as the e2343Fi if you are a sucker for model numbers, the AOC Aire Monitor with Docking Station can be yours for $279.99 a pop from March onwards. If you happen to be headed towards CES next week, the AOC Aire Monitor with Docking Station is on display at the Bellagio, Monet 3 Ballroom. Robert Velez, Marketing Manager of AOC, says, "The Aire Monitor with Docking Station is the ideal multimedia solution for iPhone and iPod users who want to watch movies or browse photos on a 23-inch high definition flat screen directly from their mobile device. The monitor displays photos and video content on a screen that is 37 times larger than the iPhone that it comes from." Other hardware specifications of the AOC Aire Monitor include 50,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, a 5ms response time, 250 cd/m² of typical brightness, a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080@60Hz, HDMI digital input, and 10-watts integrated speakers. I guess this beats hooking up your iPhone or iPod to a projector, and the monitor itself can also be used for other computing purposes whenever you are not docking any iDevice within. Pretty neat, don't you think so? Introducing Foolish Gadgets because not all gadgets are cool [ AOC Aire Monitor with Docking Station copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] Related Posts: |
