SPAR Zephyr 300 Bluetooth Speaker Posted: 07 Dec 2011 06:30 AM PST This tiny black box is the SPAR Zephyr 300 Bluetooth speakerphone, and it is designed to be a wireless speaker that is about the size (but not thickness of) a smartphone. So if you are looking for a way to take the music off a Bluetooth compatible device and make it more…public, then this is one way. Just put a thick rectangle in both pockets. Yes, Bluetooth speakers are a dime a dozen. I mean that their numbers are big and there are a lot of them, not that they are cheap. What makes the Zephyr 300 different is that it can also serve as a USB charger. Now you can be listening to tunes without headphones while your cellphone is charging. I got a chance to try it out for myself, and the sound is quite good. As for the runtime, it is good for 12 hours of play, and I have no idea how long it would last while charging a mobile device. I’m sure that would drain it quite quickly. As I write this post, the SPAR site appears to be down. I’m guessing that they are gearing up for big sales this holiday. The Zephyr 300 costs about $99.99, and should be available sometime before the middle of the month. If you want to pre-order, then I hope the link for the SPAR site will be back up by the time this posts. Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. Flyboard lets you fly like a bird, swim like a dolphin Posted: 07 Dec 2011 06:15 AM PST Some of you might remember our report on the JetLev Flyer, a jet pack that used water for propellant. Similar in design is the Flyboard. The Flyboard doesn’t put all the thrust on the back, but puts it on boots. Not only that, the user has hand jets so he or she is capable of some seriously cool stunts. I would imagine that learning control of it is like how Tony Stark learned to fly in Iron Man, but the crashes are a little softer. You can watch a video of it after the jump, and you can see how cool it really is. You will note that the user can essentially fly above the water like a bird, and swim in the water like a dolphin. Yes, I’ll bet all the animals don’t know what to make of the Flyboard. As you might have noticed on the video, there is a certain umbilical contraption attached to the pilot/swimmer here. Apparently, this can connect to any jetski with a 100 horsepower motor. The price of this is about $6,600, which is pretty expensive, and that does not include the jetski. We talked about how Richie Rich is the only one who can use the JetLev Flyer, and I am guessing the jet set crowd is the audience for the Flyboard. Sony Ericsson Xperia active is one tough cookie Posted: 07 Dec 2011 06:00 AM PST I know that we’ve seen tough and rugged phones in the past, but none of them are definitely as attractive as this particular Android-powered offering from Sony Ericsson – the Sony Ericsson Xperia active. The name alone does give some of the game away, as those who indulge in a particularly active lifestyle will definitely have moments where they might fall or stumble, or make mistakes, dropping their precious smartphone to the ground (or another classic, sending it for a swim in the loo). Well, glad to say the Xperia active will be able to shrug all of that off non-chalantly, thanks to its water resistant and dust proof case. Yes sir, another plus point of this unique Android-powered smartphone would be the unique incorporation of wet finger tracking that will make sure that the phone works perfectly, never mind if you have just plunged headlong into a rainy hike, trudging along snowy slopes or getting your adrenaline rush through mud-splattered bike trails. Another interesting point is this – the Xperia active is able to remain under three feet of water for up to half an hour, which is far longer than what any human (or most phones, for that matter) is able to do. Having said that, what’s a wee bit of rain or snow? Not only that, since this is meant for folks who live out the active lifestyle, it will also function as your very own personal trainer, where said smartphone will ship pre-loaded with personalized sports apps to make life a whole lot easier for you, letting you track your workouts and fitness level so that you can reach your goals in a more objective manner. It does not matter whether mountain biking or running is your cup of tea, the Xperia active allows you to set your ideal training route thanks to the built-in GPS, barometer and compass. Other hardware specifications include a scratch-resistant 3" multi-touch screen with wet finger tracking, Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, a 5 megapixel camera with HD video functionality, and it will come in an orange or white bands with black back covers. The asking price for this tough nut? $369.99 unlocked, reasonable, no? Your perfect manly gift is here with the Mo-Tool Posted: 07 Dec 2011 06:00 AM PST Some people are really hard to shop for when it comes to the holidays, but for those who are into the outdoors, tools, or just plain survival might be interested in the Mo-Tool. I am guessing that the name is some sort of quasi-abbreviation for More Tools, and this certain has tools, in spades. This is essentially a Swiss Army knife taken to the next level. It looks like someone has decided against the model of the multifunctional knife and started with an axe. Yes, an axe with a hammer on one side. It also has screwdrivers, knives, wire-cutter, can opener, file, not to mention a wrench. So, if you are trapped on a deserted island and could only one thing, what would you bring? Yeah, that Tom Hanks in Cast Away would have built himself a yacht to get off that deserted island if he had one of those. Perhaps if the non-action of Cast Away wasn’t your cup of tea, then you might want to include a Mo-Tool in the next action film. I can totally see some big action hero taking out a whole army of zombies or robots with just one Mo-Tool. You should be able to purchase the Brook & Hunter Mo-Tool on Amazon, but it isn’t available as yet, so I don’t have a price. Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. Optrix HD Sport Mount transforms iPhone and iPod touch into action sports camera Posted: 07 Dec 2011 05:30 AM PST I guess it goes without saying that a device like the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPod touch are extremely beautiful to look at, boasting all of the industrial design genius that hails from Cupertino, where it will also naturally come at a price – such gizmos are more often than not fragile. Well, the thought of using one of the three mentioned devices from Apple as an action sports camera is certainly a daunting one, as Gorilla Glass won’t do much if you happen to suffer from a fall and said Apple device kisses the ground – hard. Well, here is a tool that will be able to help you out – the Optrix HD Sport Mount which is touted to be the first weatherproof rugged case which was specially designed to transform the iPhone 4, 4S and iPod touch into an action sports camera. The iPhone 4S would be the most optimal device among the three, considering it comes with 1080p HD and image stabilizing capabilities, giving you the opportunity to capture great looking video in most of the environments, ranging from extreme racing to perhaps a far more relaxing day by the poolside. Heck, it is touted in the press release to be”tough enough for military use”, but I don’t think this is going to stop a bullet anytime soon though. Optrix's patented design will make sure that your iDevice is securely housed within, without sacrificing on accessibility as you can still obtain easy access to its interface, paving the way for instant playback, video editing and even image and video uploading. Not only that, you can also check out a full-screen image of the framed shot, not to mention a one-hand quick release design that allows you to adjust shooting angles in a fast and painless manner. It does not matter whether you are snowboarding, skateboarding, mountain biking, or racing, the Optrix HD Sport Mount is good enough to handle all of those sports without missing a beat. If you are interested in picking this puppy up, you can always place a pre-order for $79.99. Conference Calendar – The global conference and expo finder.
