Logitech Wireless Headset syncs with Bluetooth

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 08:30 AM PDT

I seem to be reviewing a lot of Bluetooth Wireless headsets lately. There was the Jabra SPORT as well as the NuForce BT-860, and I notice that there isn’t much to say about them other than the fact that they are wireless.

I will have to admit that the Logitech’s seems to ignore the traditional black for white. It also has a nice noise-cancelling microphone that reduces background noise and can detect a whisper. The microphone can rotate upward into the headphones for something more compact.

While we are on the subject of compact, I will say that these headphones can fold up like sunglasses. It also has an adjustable headband.

I will have to say one thing that this Logitech Wireless Headset has is an unusual volume control on the side. Still, the sound is pretty good, and the volume can be controlled from a Bluetooth compatible device itself.

As for power, the battery is good for about six hours after a recharge. It doesn’t take long to charge it, either.

In other words, The Logitech Wireless Headset is a good set of wireless headphones. It isn’t available for purchase right now, but you can pre-order it at the official Logitech web site for about 69.99.

I Want SCANDY! To scan my documents with my smartphone!

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 08:15 AM PDT

In case you missed the joke in the title of this posting, it is an allusion to a song called “I Want Candy” by 80′s band Bow Wow Wow.

The SCANDY is a very cool device that allows you to scan a document with a smartphone. This is something that I have done before at libraries. I find that when I do this, I can’t help but feel like a cold war spy snapping pictures of secret documents with my spy camera. Of course, I do it with my smartphone, and it does slide together like those old spy cameras from movies.

It is difficult to hold a smartphone camera steady when taking pictures of documents this way, which is why SCANDY can literally screw in to the side of the table. There is a video of it at my Source if you want to see it in action.

I have to admit that what sold me on this was the man scanning pages like he was speed reading a book. Imagine doing that on a scanner!

Of course, I can’t really buy this right now. This is one of those Kickstarter projects that requires funds from users in order to go to the market. You can go to my Source if you wish to donate on it. I believe that $40 will get you your own SCANDY!

SMELLIT could bring odors to your favorite games

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 08:15 AM PDT

Is there anything that could be more appropriate to bring back than smell-o-vision? Considering that 3D is helping bringing people back into the theaters, why not this fad?

Right now, there is a French company called Olf-Action (“Olf” for olfactory) which makes Odorvision, which can somehow emit scents through these jet engines.

Olf-Action wants to target these SMELLIT devices not for theaters but for home theaters and video games. As you can see in the picture, God of War is going to look pretty spectacular when you can sniff it.

Ah, smelling the game, won’t that be grand? What you see here is a rendering of it, and the device will be on display at the Lisbon Design Show.

By the way, you should see the smell list for this at my Source. It reads like a jukebox of odors, and 20001 is “Smell naked body”. Another is “Scent of a Woman” on 30001. Well, I wonder what type of game you are playing when those scents are mixed. The world may never know.

So, are there any games that you want to play with scents? I know a lot of games usually have a level that takes place in a sewer, and I really don’t want to bring that scent to my living room.

Feel free to insert any joke that mixes scents with video games here.

Quirky Ray solar-powered charger

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 08:00 AM PDT

We have reported on a lot solar-powered chargers here on Coolest-Gadgets, most recently the Eton Mobius.

A company/distributor known as Quirky, which puts devices from independent inventors to the spotlight, has the Ray on their catalog. The Ray is different than most chargers as it has a very powerful suction cup to hold it to where the sun shines the most: on glass. It also has a tilting kickstand that supports multiple positions to capture the sun.

The Ray has a compact battery that can store enough energy to fully charge a cellular phone. It has a USB port for easy charging, and these USB cords can be tucked for storage into the kickstand when folded closed.

I will have to admit what sold me on this Ray is how it can cling to an airplane window. Considering that you will have your cellular phone in airplane mode anyway, you might as well take advantage of the downtime and charge it. Hopefully, the passengers next to you won’t think it is rude if you block their view.

You should be able to get the Ray on the Quriky site for about $39.99. While you are there, check out some other items.

G-Clip Compact 4-in-1 Golf Tool

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 06:00 AM PDT

Golfers have their fair share of gadgets too, you know, although the selection might be rather limited compared to a true blue geek. Well, if you are only allowed to purchase 3 gadgets for your golf hobby, then perhaps the £14.99 G-Clip Compact 4-in-1 Golf Tool should be made compulsory, never mind that it is relatively affordable. Not everything that is expensive is good and vice versa. After all, when 9 out of 10 PGA Tour Partners Members would recommend it, you know for sure that this is going to be one impressive gizmo. Just what do you do with it though?

For starters, this highly portable device comes with a built-in magnet that will hold your place markers, while a stainless steel divot tool will help repair and aerate greens. Not only that, it also doubles up as a club rest so that your grips remain dry, now how about that? A sprung holder is able to hold a couple of thick or thin tees of any length, while molded Velcro will securely hold your loose glove. Not only that, it will attach in a jiffy to your belt or waistband, being easily accessible whenever you need it.

Considering the fact that it tips the scales at a mere 1oz (28g), this seems to be the perfect gift for dad if he has made mom a golf widow. Perhaps it might just prove to be the tipping point for him to play more golf than he would want to, turning away from the game completely after that.

Drinking Extinguisher quenches your thirst

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 05:30 AM PDT

I realized something very true at the dinner table – no matter what kind of delicacies I shove down by throat as well as the array of drinks that slide down smoothly, nothing beats clean, cold water. There is just a refreshing feel to it, especially when so much of today’s food contain MSG that tends to induce thirst afterwards. Well, if you’re going to make sure the fire in your mouth is put out because you had one too many jalapenos in your pizza, how about doing it in style with the £17.99 Drinking Extinguisher?

Bear in mind that this is meant for drinking only and not to put out any fire in the vicinity – that would call for an actual fire extinguisher. Of course, this might also mislead the uninformed and clueless that it is OK to drink out of fire extinguishers, so make sure you influence those around you the right way. This drinking vessel seems to be the perfect thing to have around parties, and it will definitely put you on the cool list even amongst strangers. Each Drinking Extinguisher can hold up to 1500CC of life saving water – or your favorite poison, of course.

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 05:00 AM PDT

I remember the sinking feeling I had a couple of years ago when upon returning home and opening up my car’s trunk, I realized that my notebook was stolen. Not only that, this happened while I had dinner, and raced all the way back to the crime scene but the chances of recovering my stolen notebook is as high as that of the world ending next year. Having made a police report, my hope turned into a flicker and died out as I became another statistic.

Man, if only the Norton Anti-Theft Web service was available back then, where it allows one to remotely lock, locate and recover a lost or stolen Windows powered notebook, or to keep up with modern times, an Android powered smartphone or tablet. Norton Anti-Theft supports the Norton Everywhere initiative, which would further extend Norton’s security expertise and technologies to protect consumers no matter where they are regardless of device or platform.

As our portable devices get more and more powerful, storing ever increasing amounts of personal information, it makes perfect sense to increase the security around such devices. • Remote Lock: Securely locks your device to prevent others from using it or seeing your information
  • Lost Notification: Displays a customizable message to anyone who finds your missing device so you can make arrangements to get it back
