A humidifier is a handy thing to have around, but just like every other appliance you own it sucks up the power. If you have a cat just lying around that needs some exercise you can take care of two issues at once. You can get your cat a little bit of a workout, all the while making it so that you don’t have to pay for your humidifier to get a bit of power.

The Wool Ball is a humidifier and air purifier that gets its juice from rolling about. Cats, kids, dogs and anyone else that likes rolling around the ball will be enough to keep it up and going. Of course should that lazy cat not be pulling his end of the weight for a day or two you can plug it into the wall as well. This is a design by Yuan Gu and so far it’s not quite up for sale just yet.

School uses optical illusion to slow drivers

No one actually likes speed bumps, but they do have their benefits. They at least keep people from driving too quickly in areas that they shouldn’t, but even when you’re at crawling speeds, to drive over one is quite jarring. One Canadian school is trying out a different method to get cars to slow down. Instead of using bumps they’re painting a 3D optical illusion of a girl crossing the street.

There are several concerns that go with this method. Some of which being that cars will swerve off of the road or slam on their brakes to avoid injuring the girl. My concern is that people that are from the area will just ignore it entirely and when there is a similar real life young girl they will not realize she’s real until it’s too late. On the up side you don’t have that pesky bump that sometimes is so severe it causes cars to scrape even at the lowest speeds.

Altoids Sours BBQ Grill

If you need a grill that’s Barbie or action figure sized then this DIY project is one to try your hand at. You can convert one of your Altoid tins into a fully functioning BBQ grill. Sure, it doesn’t have a whole lot of practicality to it, but it’d be a great conversation piece. Besides, it’s hard to beat being able to make miniature hamburgers on a tiny grill.

There is a full Instructables tutorial on how to get this job done. Right now all of the Altoid grills use charcoal to heat and apparently they heat up quite a bit. As a safety precaution it’s best to keep a large glass of water handy. The grill shown here is made using an Altoids Sours tin instead of the classic rectangle tin. This can even heat up a full size hot dog once it’s cut down to size. It’d be great to show off to friends when you have a weekend BBQ. Check out the full tutorial here.

AMD introduces ATI FirePro V9800
