Shot Gun for some pump-action glugging

Posted: 19 Jun 2010 05:10 PM PDT

Are you an avid sports fan? If so, chances are you would have stocked up your favorite beverage of choice (preferably something laced with alcohol) over the season to make sure that you drink by celebrating each victory, while drowning your sorrows with each defeat. Either way, you still get your alcohol fix, but do make sure you are in a safe environment without going overboard when doing so. For those who want to add more fun into parties or major sports events like the World Cup, forget about vuvuzelas – we have the Shot Gun here that retails for just £14.99 a pop, requiring no live cartridges but just bottles of liquor instead, as you experience pump-action glugging that will definitely burn your throat if you happen to be on the receiving end of neat tequila. One more excuse to get smashed, eh?

I have officially left E3 and still tired after the Move

Posted: 18 Jun 2010 10:55 PM PDT

I’m sure that you know that I have been at E3 all week, and I got back late yesterday.

Yes, I saw a lot of great things, and reported about them all week. I can honestly say that I didn’t try out the Kinect from Microsoft or the Nintendo 3DS because the lines were too long. I did stop by the Sony booth to play with the Move.

Yes, that’s me in the picture, and I’m playing a game known as Kung-Fu Rider. In this game, I move the stick forward to get my transport in the game going, which is on an office chair. I won’t go into detail on that, but steering is done by moving the Move to the left or the right.

This type of game playing may sound familiar to you, and yes, it is called a Wiimote. It is impossible to talk about the Move without comparing it the Wiimote, honestly. It is like talking about Microsoft’s Recycle Bin and not mention Apple’s Trash Bin.

The issue is does the Move play better than the Wiimote. I would have to say yes. Navigating a menu was a lot easier without having to worry about whether or not your stick is pointed to a sensor bar. Since the Move is connected to the Playstation Eye, the controller is much more fluid.

All in all, Nintendo is going to have to work to make their Wiimote as good as the Move. Perhaps Sony will work on making the PSP in 3D.

Yoostar 2 debuts at E3, with help from Science Officer Spock

Posted: 18 Jun 2010 10:24 PM PDT

Some of you might remember when we first reported on the Yoostar, and you should know that its sequel was introduced at E3.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Yoostar, it is a device that has a portable green screen and stand, and uses an ordinary web camera to literally put the user into a scene of a popular movie.

Yoostar 2: Be Scene allows the user to download even more scenes from even more movies, and then play a game where they are required to match the lines of the actor or actress precisely. Leonard Nimoy was at E3 demonstrating this technology as he quoted Arnold Schwarzenegger’s famous “I’ll be back” line from the original Terminator. By the way, he did a pretty good job. I guess years of playing the stoic Spock prepared him for acting like a robot with human skin.

After the player has his or her “audition”, he or she is rated as a “struggling actor” or “superstar”. There is even a multiplayer mode and progression mode as well.

The Yoostar 2 is planned to be released soon, but we don’t have a price or exact date. However, it will be compatible with the Microsoft Kinect and the Playstation move. We also know that players can record and then upload their performances to Xbox LIVE or the Playstation network as well.

What else to expect from RockBand 3

Posted: 18 Jun 2010 09:58 PM PDT

Remember when I told you that Rock Band 3 was going to get the keytar? Well, I wouldn’t say I was wrong about that, but that really is only one of several upgrades that the successful music video game franchise is receiving.

At the E3 Expo, they announced that not only will it have a keytar, but it will play like a regular sit down keyboard as well. It only has two octaves, but it is apparently designed to digitally simulate all 88 keys.

Also unveiled is a guitar that has real strings. Yes, it does beat the heck out of Power Gig: Rise of the SixString, and the demonstration showed the game identifying actual chords that a real guitarist would play. To make the game more advanced, they even have figured out a way to connect a real keyboard to the Rock Band game.

Other advancements are a filing system that allows the user to quickly find a song. Apparently, a lot of players have their Rock Band tracks all in one place, and finding one could be tough considering they plan on having 2,000 tracks by the holiday season. The user can search by artist, decade, game, and other genres.

Also at the Harmonix booth was Dance Central, a dancing game that connects to the Kinect. Both this game and Rock Band 3 will arrive shortly in the fall.
