Anti-Gravity Platform

Sir Isaac Newton will definitely look upon the Anti-Gravity Platform of today in amazement – after all, how can a £89.99 device keep things levitating on top of it? There is nothing quite like seeing a rotating Levitating globe right smack in the middle of your desk, and amazingly enough it doesn’t require any nefarious knowledge of the dark arts – all it uses would be a bunch of powerful magnets that will mimic the effects of anti-gravity, hence resulting in a slowly rotating globe located above its mirrored, LED-equipped base. It can also float other items as long as they are no heavier than 85 grams. Looks like a neat way to propose to your girlfriend with this, having a ring floating in mid-air, eh?

So you happen to have enough moolah to own a home that has a swimming pool in its compound – how about making sure that the pool’s water content remains clean and pristine at all times? Now, we’re not expecting it to be as clean as drinking water, but at least the Healthier Pool Purifier is capable of reducing the amount of chlorine required by up to 80%. You also don’t have to worry about this device running out of juice since it comes with an array of solar panels that is located on its top segment, letting the sun’s rays provide low-power current for an electrode coil that extends into the water. Not too sure whether it will work as well for an indoor pool though. A mineral electrode insert fits into the coil and slowly releases ions that fight algae and bacteria without the need for an algaecide. You can swim with this inside your pool without missing a beat. Each electrode’s insert lasts for a year, and throughout the 12 months it will go about collecting undesirable minerals such as calcium and iron as well, softening your water in the process. $349.95 is the asking price for the Healthier Pool Purifier.

AMD announces ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition graphics card

AMD is back with a bang, and this time round they are offering the awesome ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition graphics card which is the bees knees when it comes to performance. Of course, being a hardcore gamer and all, chances are you are always on the lookout for the latest and greatest just to get that added it of edge over your opponents (or computer AI). Well, the ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition certainly doesn’t look as though it will disappoint on paper – not when it is equipped with 2GB of GDDR5 memory, and boasts the capability of rendering over 1 billion pixels per second in today's titles – currently being the only graphics card in the market to do so at the moment. Not only that, another interesting aspect would be its ability to send video across six displays, enabling up to 12 times more resolution than 1080p HD. Now how about that for performance?

Before the ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition rolled out, you required two (or even three in some cases) graphcis cards to simultaneously drive six independent computer monitors at and beyond 1080p HD resolutions. With the ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition, all of that performance is delivered on a single graphics card, further reducing the cost of ownership for a six-screen display while making sure you have the option of setting up hundreds of possible multi-monitor configurations without missing a beat. Not only that, you can take advantage of a well-developed ecosystem around ATI Eyefinity technology, where this includes broad support by the game development community. Latest updates in the ATI Catalyst graphics driver software will continue to see improvements in the ATI Eyefinity experience by periodically enabling new features.

Some of the features found on the new ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition include :-

  • The ability to use ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU technology in conjunction with ATI Eyefinity multi-display capabilities as released in ATI Catalyst graphics drivers version 10.2, enabling increased gaming performance when driving high-resolution ATI Eyefinity display groups.
  • ATI Eyefinity technology enhancements were made available in ATI Catalyst graphics update version 10.3, including bezel compensation, which helps simulate a more integrated display surface by adjusting for display bezels.

It is going to be expensive from the get go, but think of the performance enhancements that you get in return!

Fujitsu LifeBook MH330 is yet another netbook

Fujitsu were one of the first few computer manufacturers to come up with rather small notebooks back in the day, although those were barely able to do serious work apart from looking cool and surfing the Internet, with some casual word processing and number crunching. Hmmm, sounds suspiciously like netbooks of today, so it is no surprise to see the Japanese company come up with the LifeBook MH330 netbook that ought to fit in nicely with the netbook mold that we are so used to thees days. This device tips the scales at just 1.1kg, and is 18.5mm thin at the front when closed and 24.5mm thin behind, making it one of the slimmest netbook to grace the market to date. Of course, most netbook specifications hardly vary from one to the other, and the Fujitsu LifeBook MH330 is no different as you can see below.

Underneath the hood, you will find it running on an Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz processor that is accompanied by a relatively large 250GB hard drive, Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, a 5-in-1 memory card reader slot, wireless LAN 802.11b/g/n support and even a webcam to help you keep in touch with family and friends when abroad over video calls. Not only that, the LifeBook MH330 is also equipped with a 10.1″ WSVGA back-light LED display with a resolution of 1,024 by 600 pixels, a 400:1 Contrast Ratio, and Dual Built-in Stereo Speakers for some semblance of entertainment whenever you are on the road with the MH330 in tow.

Since Fujitsu knows that accidents come unannounced and that netbooks are also prone to physical stress and damages including accidental spills over the keyboard, the LifeBook MH330 is then equipped with a Spill-resistant Keyboard which ensures you can continue typing away even if you were klutzy enough to spill some lunch time Coke all over the place by a wayward elbow of yours. Although it does not come with a DVD drive, it does feature the DVD Sharing application that enables the ease of sharing of optical disk drive with other PCs over a wireless connection – in layman’s terms, you are able to use the optical drive from your primary computer or notebook with the MH330. No idea on pricing as at press time, but it ought to hit the market pretty soon.

MEDL introduces first portable 13″ LED monitor

We’ve see monitors progress from CRT to LCD and now, LED and perhaps even OLED if you are feeling rather generous in your pockets, but how many of those are truly portable? No sir, they sit on your desk all day long, and lugging one around would probably cause you a bad back in no time. Needless to say, those tiny USB-powered monitors don’t really count as portable, since they more or less act as a supplementary monitor instead of a primary one. MEDL Technology intends to change the way we do things with their device which is simply known as ‘The Panel’, where it boasts of being the first fully functional, portable LED monitor in the world. Now how about that – your very own portable LED monitor tucked right under your arm? Trippin’! Let us delve further into what MEDL’s The Panel offers in the extended post.

According to Eric Liao, CEO of MEDL Technology, “The technology wasn’t available previously to manufacture an elegant, lightweight and durable, portable display; but with The Panel, anyone can add a second or third monitor to their laptop and easily pack it up and go. Our vision is to make life easier for the laptop-toting public and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to launch our first product at DEMO.”

This multi-purpose, LED display will target both the business and consumer audiences by virtue of being the very first portable 13″ display. It definitely won’t weigh you down on your travels, since it is rougly the equivalent or lighter than current generation netbooks at 2.2 lbs., and is equally at home for work as well as play although we do wonder whether you are able to spot your enemies from a distance in an FPS with such a small (relatively speaking, of course) display unit. If you do not want to use this as a primary display, then you are more than welcome to have it function as a secondary display on your desktop for enhanced productivity. It is battery-operated, so you can basically bring it with you virtually anywhere for an impromptu presentation in any location. It plays nice with both Mac OS and Windows operating systems, and will stay connected to your computer via USB, booting up in under 10 seconds. Features include WXGA resolution and a five-hour battery life. No idea on pricing though.

Canon announces SX7 Mark II D projector

Canon is back with a brand new projector from its award-winning REALiS Multimedia Projector lineup, known as the SX7 Mark II D with DICOM Simulation Mode. Of course, us regular folks might scratch our heads and wonder what all of that is about, but for folks who are in the medical-education field, they can now view monochrome digital X-Rays, CAT Scans and MRI's with accurate color and precise detail thanks to the REALiS SX7 Mark II D. After all, you wouldn’t want your doctor or surgeon to misdiagnose your illness simply because of poor visuals when it comes to interpreting your X-ray, would you? Not only that, the SX7 Mark II D is able to meet this need on a scale much larger when compared to traditional monitors.

The DICOM Simulation Mode that is available on the REALiS SX7 Mark II D will simulate the results of devices compliant with the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Part 14 standardized display function for display of grayscale images. Under guise of this mode allows, users are able to calibrate directly on the projector using 21 different levels of gamma adjustments. For the layman it might not amount to much, but this flexibility is significant as calibrating in a classroom, conference room or any other environment can be challenging since the level of ambient lighting is never the same. It might not be cleared or approved for medical diagnosis, but this projector is definitely ideal for medical educators who want to display large images to properly train students and conduct lectures/conferences without breaking the bank (relatively speaking, as you will find out later).

Similar to all other REALiS Projectors, the SX7 Mark II D will come with Canon's advanced LCOS technology that is most famous for rolling out film-like images and video. This high end, state-of-the-art technology is accompanied by native SXGA+ high resolution (1,400 x 1,050 pixels) and an impressive 4,000 lumens of brightness, making sure images are always delivered with exceptional color reproduction, fine lines and crisp small text (even as small as 7 point).
