Electronic Key Impressioner makes key copies from the lock itself

Posted: 05 Feb 2010 05:03 PM PST

lockduplicator-thumb-550x454-33282One of the problems with having a car is when you lose the key and you can’t find the spare. If only you could find a friend who has the Electronic Key Impressioner.

All you need to do is stick that key-shaped end into a lock, and it can scan a lock from the inside and record what it sees.

From there, it is as easy as taking it back to the computer and plugging it into the computer via USB port. This gives a code that can be used in a key making machine.

Right now, the machine works with only the Ford models. Just so you know, there are only a few models of keys, and these models are unique to the maker of the car. The inventor of the Electronic Key Impressioner, Steve Randall, wants to make the device work on more models.

Now, I’m sure you can see the downside for this device. Yes, a lot of car thieves probably want this so they could make their “jobs” easier. However, this device would only be given to the professionals and people licensed for it. In fact, the device would be web connected to a central site that would let the powers-that-be see who is copying what key. In fact, if you are an unauthorized user of the Electric Key Impressioner, then you will be on lockdown!

We’ll see if this device gets made. If so, then it could be make the locksmith business easier.

Gesture cube is a many-sided monitor

Posted: 05 Feb 2010 04:28 PM PST

gtrcb0-98-232-thumb-550x445-33304It would appear that the future is in gesture technology. This device, known as the Gesture Cube, is designed to meet the future head-on.

The Gesture Cube is essentially a display with five displays. It would have been six, but that stand has to go somewhere.

There is a video for this after the jump, and you can see what you can do with it. I have to admit that this thing has the most unique gestures that I have ever seen.

For example, the way a person can select music is gesturing to get a playlist, then more gestures to get an artist, then one more for a song. You will note in the video how all sides of this device are used in interacting with this experience. The video shows that a user can download files like photos to the Gesture Cube wirelessly.

You will also note that this computer cube is designed to be in every room of the house, and how it will stop all activity when it detects that it is being carried elsewhere.

It would be great if it was easy to recharge. Maybe there is a retractable cord on the stand to plug into the wall, or something.

Well, this Gesture Cube is still a concept from a German design team, but it looks like something that you would see in a science fiction film. You never know what idea from a good science fiction film will jump off the screen and become reality.

Affordable Scosche Solbat2 Solar Charger

Posted: 05 Feb 2010 12:15 PM PST

solbat

Using a solar charger instead of plugging your gadgets into an outlet is always ideal, but solar panels can often be pricey.  This small panel is about the size of your average cellphone, plus it won’t cost you a fortune.  With this small panel you’ll be able to keep any of your USB powered devices up and running no matter where you’re at.

It has a battery capacity of 1500mA and an output of 5V.  You’ll just need to have your USB cable for the needed gadget around.  Then use that cord to plug it into the panel instead of plugging it into your computer like you usually would.  It even comes with a windshield cradle that’ll make it possible for the device to stay in a good spot to soak up some sun.  You can purchase the Scosche Solbat2 for $29.99.

Music In Love Audio Splitter

Posted: 05 Feb 2010 11:15 AM PST

oic

This has to be the sweetest audio splitter ever created.  If you’re constantly sharing your music with someone else, then having this small heart-shaped keychain around would be handy.  It could always stay dangling from your keychain and it would look like nothing more than a brightly colored little heart.  Then just pop off the cap and it’s ready to go.

It appears that this comes in bright red as well as a softer blue.  Then it has a cap that has a chain attached.  In order to plug your headphones in, you just use the two spots on either side of the heart.  Unfortunately it’s not exactly being released just yet.  Actually, there’s not even any information that it’ll be released at all.  You can keep an eye on it though through Fadtronics.

Desktop Teeth Whitening Lamp

While you’re sitting at your computer and don’t have anything better to do, you might as well whiten your teeth.  It might save those of you that are coffee addicts from having slightly yellow teeth.  It’d also be great for smokers out there or pretty much anyone who is just looking a little yellow.  The strong blue light will make you bright white and shiny in no time at all.

It works by using a strong blue light that activates the whitening gel and oxidizes the pigment of the teeth through dentin tubes.  The whole process takes about 30 minutes.  It’s a much more in depth process than the usual methods like special toothpaste and gooey treatments you put on at night.  Which is why the price tag is just a touch higher.    By a touch I mean it will cost you $410.70 from UxSight, so it’s slightly more than a touch.

nekura-scramble

Do you like to stand out from the crowd with your fashion sense (or basically being an early adopter of anything and everything tech)? If so, why not consider some timepieces from the folks at TokyoFlash – after all, they have a delectable collection of watches that might require more than the two brain cells needed to tell the time, and the latest watch from TokyoFlash would be the Nekura Scramble. It comes with an always-on LCD display alongside a row of embedded LED lights below which changes colors. Large blocks on the left and right represent the hours as they light up in a clockwise manner, while the row down the middle tells the current minute (in five minute increments) with the quartet of tiny lines at the top middle representing single minutes. You will be able to opt from any of the half dozen colors it is capable of displaying, while the less decisive person can always cycle through all the colors instead. Pick up the Nekura Scramble at a discounted price of $76.58 for a limited time only.

Flashlight Flying Discs

Posted: 05 Feb 2010 06:00 AM PST

frisbeeWant to prepare earlier for summer this year, spending time outdoors with your furkids (or actual kids)? Why not get the Flashlight Flying Discs? After all, it comes in two flavors – Frenzy and Disco, retailing for £22.95 and £29.95, respectively.

Souped up with motion-activated LEDs, fiber-optics and a stonking set of vibrant colours, these light up frisbees bring this favourite British past-time to life with an array of colours, and if you think each flying disc is fun during the day – just wait until night-time! Choose between Flashlight Disc-o and its traffic light rotation of party colours or crank the madness up a notch with Flashlight Frenzy, which uses multicoloured LEDs to send the flying disc into a frenzy of colour during flight. Both flying discs are soft and comfortable to catch and throw and are ergonomically designed for optimum balance, stability and long, straight flights.

No idea on how long these will last in the mouth of a boisterous pooch, but at least you know it has a long battery life which offers hours upon hours of flying time!

Back to the Future Lights and Sound Mark I Delorean

Posted: 05 Feb 2010 05:45 AM PST

delorianLoved the Back to the Future series, and always wanted to have a Mark I Delorean to call your own even though it was a crappy car? Well, ThinkGeek has just the thing for you – a Mark I Delorean from the Back to the Future sci-fi movie series complete with a light and sound setup.

Originally manufactured in northern Ireland, the DeLorean DMC-12 had gull-wing doors and totally sweet brushed stainless steel paneling. Sadly, it was the only car the DeLorean Motor Company ever produced, so that’s why you don’t hear it being called the DMC-12. Our DeLorean is a 1/12th size replica of the one used in the Back to the Future movies, including fully-detailed moving parts, lights, and sound effects.

Surely any self-respecting fan of the movie series would be willing to shell out $39.99 for one of these blinkers, right? Right?

Nikon unveils Coolpix P100 digital camera

Posted: 04 Feb 2010 10:08 PM PST

nikon-p100

Nikon is back with a slew of new digital cameras, but due to space constraint for the day, we will take a look at the P100 first. The Coolpix P100 digital camera is a status quo breaker in many ways, where it is the first digital camera from Nikon that has a CMOS image sensor and full High Definition (HD) movie (1080p) capabilities – at least where the Coolpix line is concerned. Apart from that, you also get an expansive 26x Optical Wide Angle Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens alongside a 3″ vari-angle Clear Color Display LCD screen at 460,000 pixels resolution. Basically, this is one digital camera that you might want to consider if you’re looking for something compact that is able to grow along with your photographic potential – applicable only for beginners, of course, since those who are more serious would already have moved on to the DSLR platform.

A dedicated movie-record button is there for you to capture all the happenings in high definition resolution, while the inclusion of a stereo microphone is located right on top of the camera in order to capture audio accurately, further enhancing the video capture experience. In addition, both the optical zoom and autofocus functions will be available even when you are recording video. Not only that, the high-speed movie function lets you play back your recorded video clips in slow motion (or fast if you want to have a more comedic effect), exposing the more artistic side of you in the process. Integrating the Coolpix P100 into your current home theater system is a snap thanks to an HDMI connector that ought to play nice with any existing compatible HDTV.

The Nikon Coolpix P100 will hit the market this coming March for $399.95, where it will also be equipped with a 10.3-megapixel backside illumination CMOS sensor, a Night Landscape mode, and a new 26x Optical Wide Angle Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens.

AMD is proud to unveil affordable ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card

Posted: 04 Feb 2010 09:39 PM PST

ati-radeon-hd5450

The fight between video cards has had its fair share of champions and losers in the past decade, and we have seen the scene settle between two giants – leaving all the other contenders laid to waste (3DFX, Matrox, S3), with NVIDIA and AMD now left standing. The battle for supremacy hasn’t let up for a long time between the two, and they have traded positions as top dog quite a fair number of times. It seems as though AMD is in the ascendancy at this moment, although anything can change at a moment’s notice. AMD’s latest offering would be the ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card that is touted to deliver a state-of-the-art HD multimedia and game experience at a price point that ought to carve a smile on your face.

With the ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card, you won’t find it wanting in terms of performance as it does share a great many features that are available in the critically-acclaimed ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series, where among them include support for DirectX 11, ATI Eyefinity multi-display technology and ATI Stream technology, making it an ideal tool for those who are interested to have an uncompromising Microsoft Windows 7 experience. Of course at the end of the day, most people would be interested to know in just one thing – how much will it hit your wallet for? We’re happy to report that the ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card with 512MB of memory, won’t cost more than – are you ready for it – $60. $60! Now that’s something worth looking into.

Among the partners who are already ready to roll out the ATI Radeon HD 5450 include ASUS, ASK, Club 3D, DMM, GBT, HIS, LDLC.com, MSI, TUL, Sapphire, VT and XFX, so you ought to be able to upgrade your machine with the latest gaming graphics card that ought to offer a decent bang for your hard-earned buck. Being passively-cooled is also another advantage since this ultra-quiet card would also double up as a suitable home theater PC component. If now is the time to upgrade your video card, why not consider the ATI Radeon HD 5450 in your crosshair?

Sanyo releases Dual Cameras

Posted: 04 Feb 2010 09:16 PM PST

sanyo-dualcams

Sanyo is back this time round with not another projector, but three more Dual Cameras in the form of the VPC-GH2, VPC-CG102 and VPC-CG20. To keep up with the times, all three come with Full High Definition 1080 60i (1,920 x 1,080 resolution) video alongside the ability to snap photos at 14-megapixels. When it comes to style, all of them won’t disappoint with their sleek, modernist looks. Being small enough to pick up in one hand, you will realize that they are super portable, with the CG102 coming in black while retailing for $229, with the price point shared by the VPC-GH2 which is silver in color. Last but not least would be the $199 VPC-CG20, where you will be able to choose between silver or black colors.

Value and performance would be the two keywords that we’re looking at with all three models. It is interesting to note that all your photos and video can be saved to SD, SDHC and the SDXC memory card format, which basically allows you to store up to a theoretical 2TB of data on a single card itself – assuming such cards actually hit the market in the near future, of course. The trio will also use a new, miniature high-speed image-processing engine which helps reduce the physical size of these Dual Cameras.

Both the GH2 and CG102 comes with a new “double-range zoom” which will see the merging of both a wide-angle and telephoto zoom for videos. To sweeten the deal, they are both switchable at the touch of a button, enabling you to enjoy up to 12x double-range zoom. In layman’s terms, users will be able to switch between different zoom ranges in a similar manner as that of alternating between a couple of lenses with different zoom ratios. Zooming in on distant subjects requires but a simple touch of a button. As for the CG20, it might not be as able as its other two siblings, but at least you get a 5x optical zoom lens which is better than nothing.
