Jump Light uses your workout to power itself Posted: 13 Jan 2010 03:00 PM PST Those that enjoy working out do have their favorite way of doing just that.  If that way is jumping rope, then this gadget would be an interesting addition to your household.  This jump rope has an unexpected twist to make your life a little more eco-friendly.  You can jump to your heart’s content and then you’ll have a little light after the sun goes down. It just uses all of that kinetic energy and puts it to good use.  It even has a small screen to let you know how much battery life you’ve managed to give the flashlight.  It also lets you know just how many times you’ve managed to jump over that rope.  This was designed by Hyun Joo Lee and Eu Tteum Lee.  Of course that does mean that this is still trapped in the concept stage.  Hopefully sometime it’ll make its way into reality though. Puyocon ball-shaped interface device Posted: 13 Jan 2010 02:55 PM PST What you are seeing here is Puyocon, a ball-shaped device that could easily replace your mouse. Unlike your mouse, Puyocon isn’t dependent on rolling around on your desk to make your cursor move. On the contrary, Puyocon prefers to be picked up and rolled, squeezed, or even thrown to get your cursor to where it needs to go. The ball has fourteen pressure sensors in all, plus a three-way acceleration sensor. It can be synced to your computer via Bluetooth. Puyocon was developed by the Entertainment Computing Laboratory of Japan’s Tsukuba University. Apparently, they discovered that a young child’s method of squeezing things was a lot better use of an interface than a mouse or touchpad. You can check out the video after the jump, and decide for yourself if you feel that these guys are on to something. I say, if you’re going to have a ball interface, why not have two balls? With one ball controller in your left hand, and another in your right, you’ll have an amazing ability to juggle all sorts of projects. Yes, that was a terrible joke, but I think you see my point. A ball like the Puyocon that can interface with your computer is probably capable of a lot more inputs than a regular mouse, maybe even more than a gaming mouse. Now just imagine how much control a user could have with two mice. Perhaps this is the future that Puyocon is imagining, but we shall see. In the meantime, this ball doesn’t look like its for sale anytime soon. Lumisource introduces three new Boomchairs at CES 2010 Posted: 13 Jan 2010 02:28 PM PST Lumisource has been making some very sweet video game chairs with speakers for quite a while now, and they had three of their newest models on display at CES 2010. I will introduce them from left to right after the jump. Sky Lounger: “Game in Comfort” is the slogan of this oversized model. As you can see, the gamer or movie watcher is truly on his or her rocker with the Sky Lounger, and these rockers are made of chrome. The Sky Lounger features two 2-way spakers and powerful four inch subwoofer, and the volume and bass levels are controlled with a remote. (Measurements: 35 ” L x 26.5″ W x 40 ” H.) Admiral: Those that love the PC gaming world of MMOs or anything else should love the Admiral. It has an ergonomic design with an adjustable headrest for all your personal computing needs. It can also work for the television as well. It has two 2-way speakers aimed at the user for adjustable volume, base, headrest, tilt, and tension. (Measurements: 30 ” L x 32 ” W x 43 ” H.) Stealth: Check out the ground base on this bad boy! The Stealth has reinforced padded armrests and an adjustable headrest for a comfortable entertainment experience, be it video games or movies. It has two 3 inch 2-way speakers and a 4 inch subwoofer that promote some terrific sound, and you can adjust the swivel and tilt to whatever comfortable position you desire. By the way, the Stealth can be powered on 8 D cell batteries. (Measurements: 28 ” L X 28 ” W x 41 ” H.) At this present time, I don’t have a price point for either of these chairs, nor a release date. Look for them some time before the most anticipated games of the year will be released, though. Mitaki-Japan Wind-Up FM Weather Radio With Flashlight Posted: 13 Jan 2010 01:56 PM PST If you were to ever create an emergency kit for your car or within your home, this would be one affordable item you might want to throw in.  It’ll allow for you to keep track of storms while you’re riding them out in a safe area.  Since it is a wind-up device it makes it much easier on you.  You won’t have to worry about keeping fresh batteries around for this gadget. It also comes with a built-in flashlight for when the power has gone out.  I imagine it’s not the brightest light ever created, but it’ll likely do the trick fairly well in the event of an emergency.  It also has a recharge jack so that you can power up your mobile devices.  Out of the basic items there is an earphone jack as well as a wrist strap.  To work the device one minute of winding will give you about 30 minutes of light, 10 minutes of radio time and 3 minutes of weather warning alerts.  You can purchase it for $19.95 through Amazon. The USB Clip-On 7-Port Hub Posted: 13 Jan 2010 01:05 PM PST Managing your USB cables and every other cable you have lying around can make things interesting to say the least.  If you need a way to keep your USB ports in one area, then this is probably one of the best ways to pull it off.  It’ll hold itself onto your desk in the spot of your choosing and you can stop worrying about your hub falling behind your desk whenever you tug on the wrong cord. Using the same technology trusted to secure high-level state secrets, this is the only business case with a biometric security scanner. A scanner on top of the case reads your fingerprint, compares it to its internal database, and provides access only when it detects a perfect match, providing an unprecedented level of security when traveling with sensitive business documents or valuables. MSI and Novell team up for U135 netbook Posted: 13 Jan 2010 09:44 AM PST MSI and Novell have come together to announce an upcoming netbook – the MSI U135 that will feature SUSE Moblin preloaded on it. This news comes shortly after the recent roll out of Moblin version 2.1, and it also marks the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that will retail a fully-supported Intel Atom processor-based netbook that has Moblin-based technology running to keep well informed consumers happy with yet another alternative to the Windos platform. The Moblin-powered MSI U135 was specially designed for both the consumer and the enterprise, where you will be able to experience a rich Internet journey with integrated e-mail, multimedia and Web browsing capabilities while you’re on the road. Thanks to the latest innovations from all the sweat and blood of the open source community, alongside technological innovations by Novell and Intel, the MSI U135 netbook is capable of offering virtually an all-day computing experience, bosating superior battery life and low power consumption integrated within. According to am Peddibhotla, Open Source Business Director, Intel Software and Services Group, “The Moblin project has the potential to become an accessible and widely used computing platform. We have worked closely with Novell in refining the current Moblin version 2.1 for the netbook.
