Call it a Smart Bag

Anytime I say "cool" while finding new gadgets I know it is a good one. So before you say "not another bag story" – stop. You will want to read this one. The ongoing quest for people on the move is charging devices. Plenty of  bags exist out there with ample storage. And plenty of chargeable bags exist. But the creators of Phorce really put it all together and appear to be on their way to Kickstarter funding.

Phorce combines technology and practical design to come up with a functional piece you won't want to live without. On the technology side, watch out. Phorce offers charging for 3 USB devices simultaneously. How much power? The integrated lightweight battery pack can give you 8 iPhone (4, 4S, 5) or 6 Galaxy (SIII) charges. That is also enough to provide a full charge for a new iPad. For the real Mac gurus the Phorce for Mac version can charge a variety of Mac Books – Air, Pro and Pro Retina – in 7 hours or less. If they reach certain funding goals Phorce has said they will even increase the battery capacity too. And if that is not enough the bag contains Bluetooth so it can talk to you via an app on your phone. You can always monitor how much charge (or charging time based on device) you have remaining. And don't leave without it! If your phone gets too far from your bag it will message you as a reminder.

The bags are made of Phorce’s own fabric for maximum water resistance, which is combined with zips and padding equal to the task so electronics are safe. The liners keep devices clean while also making them easy to slip in and out. An expansion zipper means you can increase your space around the entire unit. And their strap system enables users to easily convert from messenger to backpack to briefcase.

For $199 backing, you can get set up with a Phorce, or for $279 get in on a Phorce for Mac. Check their Kickstarter link for details. Assuming funding is raised they anticipate shipping in March.

Redefine Singing in the Shower

What is it about getting in the shower that suddenly makes us want to sing? It is obviously the same disease that infects us when we get in our car. I'm suddenly turned into Aretha Franklin or Adele or something. Very scary for those within earshot. But there is something therapeutic about being drenched in your favorite music or news while showering.

High five to Kohler. They did what we knew would eventually come. Meet Moxie, your new Bluetooth shower head. Well, technically it is a showerhead with a Bluetooth speaker in the center. With single button connectivity, syncing the speaker with your source is easy. Then simply dock it via magnetic connection in the showerhead. You'll get 7 hours of use before you need to disconnect and re-charge and an LED will indicate when it is time to recharge. Since the speaker can be disconnected, take your tunes with you once you leave the shower too. The 60 nozzle showerhead easily delivers a full spray. As you would expect from Kohler, the unit is designed to resist corrosion and the silicon spray surface means easy cleaning. The speaker is always white, but take your choice of polished chrome or white showerhead. If this no brainer is for you visit Amazon and pick one up for $199. Your shower time will never be the same.

Intellipaper USB flash drive goes green

I am quite sure that many of us already own plenty of USB flash drives – not through purchasing them at a shop or something, but because we have attended enough press conferences, conventions and events for exhibitors to hand these out like candy on Halloween. The thing is, we tend to forget just what we store on all of these USB flash drives, and after a while accumulating them takes up space that all we want to do is throw them away. Which leads us to another problem – disposing of USB flash drives in an environmentally friendly manner is rather difficult, which is what led to some folks to think of the Intellipaper USB flash drive.

Basically, the Intellipaper USB flash drive is extremely tiny – far smaller than the stock USB flash drive you see at conventions, and it has another good point about it – since it is as thin as a sheet of card stock, it is also foldable. The good news does not stop there though, as you are able to mail it cheaply as part of a postcard, now how about that? After all, since majority of the drive consists mostly of paper, they can also be binned into the recycling segment instead of being thrown out away like any other regular trash.

The Intellipaper USB flash drive is now an Indiegogo project, where they are aiming to raise up at least $300,000 in order to secure enough funds to deliver its eponymous USB flash drive to the masses. According to company spokesperson Mark Baker, the company has ambition that these tiny drives will be the next Post-it note, and the total cost of it would not be more than that of a rewriteable CD – which means it would be under a dollar each. How does that sound to you for your regular USB flash drive? It would catch fire all too easily though, I’m afraid.

Bi-Directional Interval Watch Winder

Women have their shoes and handbags, but what do we guys have? Well, for starters, there is the $199.95 Bi-Directional Interval Watch Winder that does what it says it does – and it does it well, of course. This particular watch winder will allow you to change its direction as well as rest interval so that a self-winding wristwatch will be able to keep accurate time, never mind that it is not worn regularly. I can identify with that, especially with an automatic wristwatch in my collection.

The Bi-Directional Interval Watch Winder is a Swiss-designed device that sports a silent motor which can be set to rotate a watch clockwise or counterclockwise. There will be a quartet of settings that allows it to alternate different periods of rest with three minutes of motion, which translates to approximately 2,200 and 4,000 turns per day. This means the watch rotors regularly power the mainsprings without having to suffer from overwinding issues. Within the central compartment, your precious watch will rest on a padded cushion, where it remains nestled against a smooth simulated leather lining.

Portal 2 Sentry Turret USB Desk Defender

There is nothing quite like a science fiction device being brought to life in the real world, and here we are with the $39.99 Portal 2 Sentry Turret USB Desk Defender that ought to wet your pants – in a good way, of course. This is basically a motion detecting turret that will help guard your desk against any pesky busybodies who love to loiter around your work area whenever you are not around.

Featuring sound effects from both Portal and Portal 2 titles, the Portal 2 Sentry Turret USB Desk Defender will be able to open up its wings as well as shoot bullets – naw, it will only do the former, but is as harmless as a cute little hamster as there are no bullets that it can discharge. Whenever it detects any motion nearby, it will say one of the following : “Target acquired”, “There you are”, “I see you”, “Preparing to dispense product”, or “Activated”.

Should the turret be moved or knocked over, it will say, “Critical error”, “Shutting down”, “I don’t hate you”, “Hey, hey, hey”, and “Malfunctioning”. If it is ignored after 30 seconds of inactivity, it will ask innocently, “Are you still there?” Sounds like the ideal device to own, no?
