So Much More Than a Case

With the introduction of the iPhone 5 come the introduction of a slew of cases. Some are totally new, but some simply adapt previous generations to the new iPhone form factor. And while all protect your phone, few actually enhance the phone.

Meet iZZi Gadgets, makers of the Orbit. The Orbit offers a trio of interchangeable lenses – fisheye, wide-angle and telephoto – right on the case. Changing lenses is as easy as twisting the iDial. And the case is no slouch either. The duraluminum dual layer protection offers ample cushion for the inevitable blows. iZZi's Sure Hand Stabilizing Grip gives it a true camera feel too – easier for holding on. And for the videographer the Orbit comes equipped with three tripod mounts to meet your need. The Orbit costs a little more than the average case, going to show the quality of the lense systems. The iPhone 5 version runs $239.99 and the 4/4S version $229.99 on iZZi Gadgets site. Included for the price are the case, protective sleeve, wrist lanyard and cleaning cloth. And yes, replacement lenses are available at a cost should you need them. If the quality of the case interests you, but you don't need 3 lenses try the Solo, which saves about $100. Whatever you do don't let your iPhone's camera limit your photo and video capabilities. Augment them with the Orbit or Solo.

"…I'm Making Waaaaaffles"

What a classic line from Shrek. And what a great treat. Seriously, waffles have to be one of the most diverse breakfast foods. Think of all the things you can put on them: fresh fruit, syrup-y fruit, whipped cream, butter, maple syrup, nuts, icing, powdered sugar. Yuuuummmmm. But they tend to not be the easiest to eat if you don't have the time to sit down. Until now.

Nostalgia Electrics decided that waffles can be served in more than one way. Though it looks like an average waffle maker their 2-in-1 Breakfast Treats Maker has 5 separate 'compartments'. So you can bake up to five waffle fries at once. Or change out the nonstick cooking plates and make 5 French toast fries. You can make pancake fries too. If you are sitting at the table, kids and adults can more easily eat and taste a variety of toppings or dips with the smaller fry size. And the truly fun addition to this kitchen gadget is the 25 bamboo skewers. Stick a skewer in your concoction and make breakfast to go. Whatever your fancy, for $37.66 on Amazon.com it makes a nice addition to any kitchen looking for a unique take on a classic morning delicacy.

Thanks: CNET

New Microsoft Patent – The Future of Xbox Gaming?

Sure I remember my first Pong game, but I think the stand out for my kid will be the Xbox Kinect. She was enthralled with the whole immersive aspects of it and it was fun for a few days, but as I get to reading some of the recently filed patent information on what is purported to be the next big thing in gaming, I have got to admit there is a major bit of wow-factor. Could it become a reality? Heck, why not?

Check out what we have learned about what just may someday be, the Xbox. According to the aforementioned patent application, Microsoft may be bringing to life all our futuristic dreams with a totally immersive experience. This patent clearly states that “An immersive display environment is provided to a human user by projecting a peripheral image onto environmental surfaces around the user. The peripheral images serve as an extension to a primary image displayed on a primary display.” So I guess that means, that someday in what I hope, is the not too distant future, we might not be gaming on our TV’s, we’ll be gaming in the whole darn living room.

So is it possible that Microsoft is really planning to create this fully futuristic gaming environment? All the diagrams included in this particular filing, seem to depict a display environment involving a whole lot more than just the TV and the walls. I am already picturing the living room coming to life in the first totally immersive (sometimes even 3D) gaming environment where the peripheral image can also appear to surround the player. Yes, it looks like there may be headgear involved, yes there are special cameras and projectors, and yes! It could be totally awesome. When do you guys think we’ll actually get to “play” like this? and how much money are we going to need to save up to do it?

iCade 8-Bitty Retro Wireless Game Controller for iPhone/iPad/Android

You can say that the handheld console market has definitely taken a hit with the advent of the iPod touch and iPhone as viable alternatives for portable gaming entertainment, although granted, the touchscreen-enabled smartphone and portable media player do not really offer that much depth compared to a dedicated handheld console. Well, one thing about touchscreen controls is this – they do not end up too accurate, especially in a First Person Shooter setting, and that can end up to be rather frustrating. Change things for the better by grabbing fate by the neck with the $29.99 iCade 8-Bitty Retro Wireless Game Controller for iPhone/iPad/Android.

Yes sir, you now have a pocketable D-Pad style device for your portable gaming needs, regardless of whether you ply your trade on the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch or Android-powered device. This classic retro-styled game controller will fit into your pocket nicely, and sports an 8 button control setup that includes a quartet of face buttons, Select, Start, and two shoulder buttons, and of course, the D-Pad for movement purposes. It works wirelessly via Bluetooth, and has an auto power save mode to prolong its gaming lifespan. Fully compatible with all iCade games, make sure you have a couple of AAA batteries around as spares always, just in case it runs out of juice.

Arctic Force Snowball Crossbow

For those of us living in the northern hemisphere, there is just one phrase which is very relevant at the moment – "Brace yourself, winter is coming." Having said that, don't be a bummer and stay cooped up at home all winter long just because you hate the snow. Embrace snow just like how you embrace the sunlight during summer, and perhaps you might learn to live a little bit more. How about having a snowball fight with your kids, when was the last time you did so? Assuming you and the missus have teamed up to go up against two of your terrible teens, you might want to offset the lack of agility on your part with power – without telling your kids, of course, by purchasing the £29.99 Arctic Force Snowball Crossbow.

What was once a medieval weapon of choice, the crossbow is definitely a timeless classic that has also been seen in use in The Walking Dead to pick off zombies from afar. The serious 'pull-and-release' action on the Arctic Force Snowball Crossbow will be able to launch snowballs up to 18 meters away, now how about that? You can always practice by using the included vinyl target first, before you end up shooting like a pro.

FAVI Mini Bluetooth keyboard comes with own trackpad

FAVI Entertainment might not be that established as Bang & Olufsen when it comes to audiovisual products despite being in the same industry, but perhaps that is due to their low profile as well as devices that do not reside on the high end side of things. Their most recent device introduced would be the pocket friendly Bluetooth keyboard that is simply known as the FAVI Mini Bluetooth. The Mini Bluetooth keyboard will not only allow you to get all of your typing done on the go, especially when you are working from the cloud on your smartphone device where a touchscreen display is not all that conducive to whip out a long document while you're on-the-go.

For starters, the Mini Bluetooth keyboard will come with a built-in trackpad that is ideal for pairing with your favorite device. This can be said to be one of the more versatile accessories you will own for your Android-powered device, as it comes with dedicated Android buttons to pave the way for easy access, while enabling one to enjoy music and video navigation through the use of special hotkeys. Not only that, if you are one who does a whole lot of presentations, you will not go wrong with the Mini Bluetooth, since it has its own built-in laser pointer.

Lightweight and portable, the FAVI Mini Bluetooth is said to deliver an ideal balance of speed, accuracy and comfort. Sporting an intuitive key layout, it paves the way for fast and accurate typing without causing more strain on your hands or fingers. The keyboard itself will come with backlit keys, letting you work in the dark as well as dimly lit areas. Since it should, in theory, play nice with all Bluetooth-enabled devices, you can also use it on a non-Bluetooth enabled device thanks to the inclusion of a Bluetooth USB receiver.

It has a wireless range of 50 feet and will retail for $49.99 a pop if you're interested. Any takers?

Google launches new Samsung Chromebook at just $249

I am quite sure that you have heard of the term Chromebook before – it is one of those computing machines that Google has commissioned to make sure that affordable and yet effective computing is made available to the masses. The thing is, the Chromebook did not really take off in that big a way, as consumers do not mind forking out additional dough to make sure that they have access to superior computing power. Well, there is a new Chromebook in town today as announced by Google, and this incredible piece of computing device retails for a mere $249. Yes sir, tipping the scales at a mere 2.5 pounds while measuring just 0.8" thin, the new Chromebook is definitely one of the lightest laptops on the market today. Will it be able to work decently enough for the average user?

Well, for starters, you have over half a dozen hours of battery life which should be more than adequate for the standard user, not to mention being able to access up to 100GB of free storage space on Google Drive, allowing you to access your data anywhere, anytime, as long as there is a decent Internet connection in tow.

Most folks would most probably wonder just what kind of performance that the new Samsung Chromebook is able to pack, and rest assured, it will not be found wanting. For starters, it will boot up in under 10 seconds and can more or less resume from where you left off almost instantly. Viewing high-resolution videos (in 1080p) are a cinch, and when your fingers dance all over the touchpad, you will notice smooth scrolling courtesy of a hardware-accelerated user interface. It does not matter if you are of the baby boomer generation or are averse to technology, the Samsung Chromebook allows you to have separate accounts where all your private data will remain accessible only to you, and not the other users.

Last but not least, if you tend to revolve your working life around Google's suite of products such as Gmail, Drive, Search, Maps, YouTube, Play or Google+ Hangouts, you will find that the new Samsung Chromebook serves everything up in a seamless manner.
