Star Wars Supreme Edition Darth Vader Costume

So you have more or less run out of ideas on what kind of costume to wear for this coming Halloween season? Well, instead of playing on the sense of fear and dread with blood and plenty of make-up, how about becoming the embodiment of fear itself in the Intergalactic world as the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader? This is made possible thanks to a black faux leather jumpsuit with molded body armor, where it was molded straight from Lucasfilm studio designs for that added touch of authenticity. The thing is, the Star Wars Supreme Edition Darth Vader Costume has one major drawback – its price point of a whopping $999.99.

Still, if authenticity is right at the top of your list compared to other features, then you know for sure that the Star Wars Supreme Edition Darth Vader Costume is worth every penny that you forked out for it. It is as real as it gets, and to add to the realistic factor, you would do well to purchase your own lightsaber, although I do not think that banks are right now giving out loans to construct a Death Star.

Bubblescope for your iPhone 4/4S is like a portable Google Street View car

For those of us who live in countries where Google's Street View is supported in the area or state where you live, you might have stumbled upon one of those Google Street View cars which have a somewhat bulbous camera located right at the top to capture a panoramic view of its surroundings. For those who want panoramic shots without requiring your phone's camera to have its very own software do so, then there is the £69.99 Bubblescope to get the job done.

The BubbleScope is actually a 360º lens attachment for your iPhone, where it can shoot not only stills but videos as well, which is what the manufacturer calls 'bubbles'. All you need to do is attach the included case, pop-up the lens from its protective cap and launch the free BubblePix App, and you can start 'bubbling' away in a jiffy. Touted to be the "only true 360º panoramic attachment" that delivers not only still images and video on your iPhone, it is time to have a whole new perspective on your surroundings.

Find Heat and Charge

Concept alert, concept alert. But oh boy, does this make sense. Stoves, radiators, portable heaters – the list of heat generating devices in our lives goes on and on. And our lives have gone portable with phones, tablets, laptops and the like. Devices have existed to charge electronics via heat sources, but never with the portability aspect.

YankoDesign features some of the latest industrial designs. Highlighted in their Technology section is the EcoCharge, a portable and green option for charging electronics. How so? EcoCharge draws heat from any heating device. Then thermoelectric generator modules convert heat to electricity. Power is delivered out of the unit via USB connection. Then just take your pick of what device to plug in. The concept had previously existed, but not in a portable unit – critical for our charging needs. Designer Ardavan Mirhosseini took it a step further by adding magnets to the side of the EcoCharge. Stick it to any metal surface while you draw out heat and charge. The unit also monitors and displays the conduction process so you could know how efficiently you charge. Imagine attaching EcoCharge to your hot pot of chili? Or how about affixing to the heating unit? It certainly makes sense and perhaps, someday, will become a reality.

Forget Your Keys!

The evolution of the smartphone as more than a phone is underway. They are slowly taking over tasks in our daily lives. Think about it. Things like music players, portable DVD players, cameras, GPS, flashlights, calculators and dictation devices go by the wayside. NFC and Passbook technologies mean no more need to carry a wallet. Next will be, yep, your keys.

Funds have been raised and production is moving forward for Lockitron by Apigy. Expected in March 2013, the wi-fi enabled Lockitron fits under and on top of your dead bolt. Add the app to your smartphone and from there the possibilities are numerous. First, lock or unlock your door from anywhere in the world via the app. So if the kids forget their keys while you are at work, no problem. Have an overnight guest arrive while you are out? You and Lockitron can let them in. And if you don't have a smartphone a simple text to the device can unlock the door. From a security standpoint, the builti-in lock sensor alerts you via message when the door is opened – whether by key or phone. And Lockitron, via Bluetooth can even serve as a wireless entry system, unlocking the door as your phone is in range.  If that is not enough, NFC phones can even be waved over the door to unlock. Lockitron pros are obvious.

On the con side, Lockitron works on 4 AA batteries which give a year of life. Alerts will let you know when batteries are running low. But I shudder to think what happens if they go dead and you don't have a key. Or if the phone loses power. Yikes. And what if you lose your phone? You can remotely (via web) disable the Lockitron so the phone thief has no access. The positives far outweigh any negatives. Pre-orders are being taken for March 2013 shipping. And at $149, Lockitron seems a pretty logical choice for convenience and peace of mind.

Walk While You Work

Unfortunately our bodies are not naturally geared to sit at a desk all day. There exists plenty of research showing that sedentary approaches to life can take years away from us. Being a desk jockey certainly contributes to these negative effects. But regardless, there we go – working our lives away in front of the computer. Don't you love the days when you work through lunch or when the 3pm "sleepies" set in? It is hard enough getting all the work done in a day, not to mention remembering to get up and walk around every so often. Desk work makes it easy to see the negative effects of being sedentary.

LifeSpan Fitness offers both commercial and residential fitness machines like treadmills, bikes and rowers. Something you don't expect to find with a company like LifeSpan is a category of products called "Workplace Solutions" including the TR1200-DT Treadmill Desk. The concept makes sense – many companies have gone to stand up desks, so why not take it a step further and stay active? LifeSpan built-in some very logical concepts to make their units stand out. Included are a 2.25HP high torque engine – designed to be used through a work day (6 or more hours). Maximum walking speed of 4MPH means you can walk at a comfortable, “work friendly” pace. A 46.5" x 31" sturdy workspace gives plenty of room to support your laptop, monitor, phone or other devices. Of course the desk height is adjustable, foam armrests on the front help with comfort and a cable tray under the desks helps keep cords organized and out of the way

My big question when reading about the unit was how do you get used to walking and working? Scott Neumyer of Popular Mechanics reviewed a TR1200-DT and found that after just a few sessions on the unit he acclimated to movement while typing, reading or talking and that he better through the work day. The great part about the TR1200-DT is the price. At $1,299 you pay a similar amount as a quality treadmill will run. So whether you work at home or in an office, make your work time healthy with a LifeSpan Treadmill Desk.
